Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

Wow what is happening?? I missed a lot?! Why is everyone fighting each other??
 
I've deliberately taken myself away from the internet for the past few days and I feel like it's really given me some perspective. Over the last few weeks I've literally been obsessing over this whole ordeal and it's consumed so much of my energy. During the last few weeks I've been trying to guage everyone's reactions on social media and the whole process has been overwelming. Reading so many conflicted opinions caused me to lose sight of my own belief as doubters were calling in to question the integrity of fans and being "complicit to child abuse" by showing support. I felt that I was being judged and made to feel ashamed of my stance, which is strange as I never encountered these feelings in 2005 (possibly due to my young age at the time).

Since then I've had some time to re-group my thoughts and I feel like I'm in a clearer head space. Facts are firmly on our side and in actuality - nothing has changed in recent years. Knowledge is power and I've really empowered that concept in recent days. These allegations have dogged Michael throughout the whole of my fandom and I'm not going to allow a one sided manipulative documentary cause me to abandon ship. I'd be a hypocrite if I did!

Most surprisingly the fall out of the documentary hasn't been as bad as I had anticipated. Of course, I'm not naive in denying that MJ's reputation will suffer, but at large it will remain somewhat intact. We've had the luxury of being able to celebrate MJ's legacy recently and I think everyone is feeling exposed as the allegations are resurfacing, causing emotions to run high.

I've categorically decided not to watch the documentary and I have no desire to watch it in the future. Some doubters may argue that I'm shying away from the "truth" but I refute that. It's apparent that this documentary is intended to be extremely provocative and pry on emotional vulnerabilities given the subject matter. There is no balance available and you're being force fed an agenda, and quite frankly, I feel the unnecessary lurid details are deplorable.

I personally think it's a bad idea for any avid fan to watch this documentary as it risks destroying your own personal image of Michael for good - regardless if you go into watching it as staunch believer in MJ's innocence. I've saw many fans fall victim to this already which is incredibly sad. To repeatedly engrain idea's into someones mind is undoubtedly going to have an impact. This is Reeds intention and it's clearly been effective for some which is why people have self declared cancelling MJ.

It's interesting to note that those who have had an invested interest in MJ appear to be the more influenced by this documentary, whereas the casual spectator has been very dismissive of it in general. Contrary to what the media report, and are forcing us to feel, the general public are simply not buying this charade which is incredibly reassuring.

I have an optimistic outlook on this and I firmly believe that the tide will soon turn on the creater and partipants of this abomination. We'll just need to play the long game.

But just to reinforce what others are saying. If you're starting to feel massivley conflicted it's time to take a break!
 
Wishing for people to come forward is very odd. It's again, like there is a desire for Michael to be a pedophile.

Surely you would want that to not be true.

What I'd prefer is for you to remove yourself from this thread, but I guess that's wishful thinking. The least you could do is stop being so aggressive and rude to people.
I don't think I've ever seen a proper fan call him by his last name who isn't also a journalist or something.

I’ve been reading some twitter reactions in the Netherlands. And I really start to believe that MJ’s legacy is over. I’m giving up. You cannot convince people who are dumb, brainwashed and blind. These people are letting their opinion be formed by the media and the mockumentary. It’s a shame how dumb the human race is. No one deserves to be silenced by false ‘facts’ and to be lynched by the media. I’m sorry, I just don’t have hope anymore... 😔

I don't see anyone bullying you or any other "objective" fan.

I've seen posters try to explain why they think you shouldn't doubt Michael and why they think he's innocent.

Hardly what I'd call bullying but if you say so...

Don't give up hun. I know it's difficult right now but this is the time we have to be stronger than ever. Michael's legacy is at stake here and he no longer has a voice.

There's always going to be people who believe MJ is guilty and the documentary is damaging, no denying that but those people on Twitter don't speak for everyone.

He still has a lot of supporters. I see them all over social media and YouTube defending Mike.

Maybe taking a break for a bit from Twitter and MJ world will do you some good? but I really believe those two opportunists will be exposed soon enough.

Something is incredibly off about Speed Demon. What the hell is going on? Hope you can look into this. We really don't need any of this. As if all these developments haven't been stressful enough.

I just read his first post introducing himself to the forum, specifically started trying to build his credibility mentioning his background as a fan, before switching to talk about the documentary.

I see, and his first posts in this thread were supportive too? I did see that the join date is January this year. Normally I don't pay attention to that at all but this poster is suspicious as hell. Not to mention actually harassing folks, being extremely rude and calling people names. Childish doesn't begin to describe it.

Seems to me that it's someone with a agenda. Especially with how he persistent he was with posting about doubts, clearly trying to get people to join in.
 
If you were on forums in 2005, I feel like youd know what peoples reactions would be when you even remotely suggest he might be guilty.

tbh what is about the freedom speech? Imo when „fans“ have doubts its the wrong way to ban them. Thats why the Social Media say that we are fanatics... this is Not Good. When somebody has doubts let give him facts to destroy their doubts

At the same time, social media is hell at the moment and you come to his fan forum to kind of find solace and you hear the same stuff you do on Twitter.

People have calmly presented these people with facts as well and theyve been ignored, same as Twitter. I have no patience for doubters at the moment.
