New MJ content (Possibility)

Bruh the other Estates like the Prince one are just imitating what the MJ Estate has done!!!

And yet the Prince Estate can't and won't compete with the MJ Estate - unless they realize that only contemporized music will lead them to success.:)

The Prince Estate is clearly doing a better job so far.

I know we have much less material from MJ, but the MJ estate could do also interesting things with all the unfinished music.
like show us the progress, recording/writing process and let talk some producers about it (ie. audio commentary or video footage). even though it's not finished music, we get a glimpse on MJs studio work - especially in his latter years.

Yes, I would even say they could do that for already released music, they do not need to use unreleased music to make respectful interesting content.

Agreed. There is a lot the MJ estate can do. The Off The Wall re-issue for example they could have done so much better and added demos of existing songs etc.

I agree with what the above people have said. They could do a series of EPs called something like "The Vision of Michael Jackson: [insert album or era]", and have demos for each original track as well as a few outtakes and unfinished tracks, and some commentary at the end with MJ's collaborators like they did with Thriller 25. That way we can see into MJ's creative process, especially Invincible and onwards, where it seems like he had so many ideas but none of them coming to fruition before he died. We could also in theory get a look at the evolution of certain songs (i.e. "Cheater", which was worked on three times between 1985 and 2009, with each version probably being a massive overhaul).

EDIT: Another idea that came to me just now is that they could release EPs with different versions of tracks. Take "Cheater" for example again. They could have a remixed contemporized version, then the original Bad era version, then the Invincible era version, and then the one worked on around 2009. Also gives us a view into his process and what direction he was taking the song with each revision.

Great ideas! Unfortunately, they ain’t doing shit. ✌🏻

No but I'm sure they will release Munich 1997 at some point because they have mentioned it few times since 2012.
Unless it's re edited for part of some anniversary release then I dont see the point. Munich is already officially broadcasted and all over the internet. I would rather it be a different show maybe dubbed with live vocals because Mjs voice did not sound good in munich.

Bucharest was also officially broadcasted, yet it was released? And I don't think the estate cares that it's all over the internet (Munich), it's still not officially released, and that's what they care about (personally I couldn't care less about Munich being released, since I already have it. I'm just saying)

At the time it was broadcasted, people could only tape it on VHS or Betamax, so the DVD release was a huge upgrade to the crappy TV recordings. On the other hand, you can have access to watch Munich in HD just by searching it up on Youtube. It would not make sense to release that.

The difference is that back then then they didn't have youtube/internet at their disposal. Mj didn't have any official concerts then. All you could get was a Yokohama bootleg VHS and Bucharest. Today Munich is all over YouTube. It's the most watched MJ concert on there because it's been broadcasted so many times/been available for so many years. We have so many concerts from this tour also. Certain people on this forum dont believe concerts are a good business move (I completely disagree, but in terms of Munich 97 I dont see it making any $). I wouldn't mind a history show if it was edited properly from different gigs. Releasing Munich at all or as is makes no sense to me. Give us something NEW!

Also - dont forget, the official reason for not releasing Yokohama 1987 was because of how readily available it was online. Munich I’d say is even easier to watch and in much better quality too.

I don't remember them saying that was the reason. It was because Yokohama has only few songs from Bad if I remember right.

yes, they said that besides that the fans already have that.

Technically, all the BAD concert tapes are too old (they have been in existence for more than 30 years) and they keep deteriorating over time.

For the Estate, the restore process of these tapes is not only time-consuming but also rather ineffective.

Besides, John Branca clearly stated (some time ago) that they are not going to release any other BAD Tour concert (in DVD format) because of the low quality of the footage.

His statement apparently referred also to the BAD Yokohama 1987 concert.

The same goes for the Victory Tour (no DVD releases due to the low quality of the footage).

He also reiterated his desire for releasing the HIStory Munich 1997 concert, in DVD format, because (out of all the singer’s concerts from all the eras) this is the only one that has the best quality but also because there is a potential, big market for that.

Doesn't matter if the master tapes were stored propperly.

Yes, I read that too in the booklet of the Anniversary boxset!

Yeah, and there were LA89 ready-for-release concert edits, so they were stored securely for sure! Besides, there are still film reels and (judging from recent eBay adventures) there actually were regular soundboard recordings from several concerts. So the audio might be bad on the Umatics, but sound in proper format should be available in storage somewhere. Besides, why do many tv stations have BAD tour snippets in pretty awesome sound and video quality.. those tapes were also 30 years old and only recently digitized. If a news company can do it... ;-)

At least we got Manila 96 LIVE audio release on Spotify in what sounds like 32 kbps sound quality, we should be happy for getting something.................... :)

Even that wasn’t official

I mean, it does not seem official, but it's been on Spotify for months, and there's no way they are not aware of that

I would love the estate to release a work tape of an already released song, like the one for Give In To Me that leaked in low quality last year. It's fascinating to listening to Michael's creative process

Yes, we got a live audio release of a 90% lip synced concert. Great!

That's super interesting. I wonder how many are actually releasable. I remember the estimates of MJ's material and now we know most aren't really songs haha.

From what I read, Prince was better at finishing projects before shelving them for later release than MJ was. MJ had a few songs that he got pretty much complete and then later had released ("Come Together", "Earth Song", probably most if not all of the Anthology tracks) but he never had full albums -- as in a collection of songs meant to go on the same record -- just sitting in the Vault collecting dust. After a project's deadline was missed or it was released, MJ just moved on from what I've read, maybe taking a track or two out for the next project.

I think it comes from Michael having an "it just comes to me and falls into my lap" approach, where he just came up with the instrumentals and lyrics for tracks all at once, which probably isn't a very common or productive way to make music (since I imagine you spend a lot of time waiting for the right inspiration). Prince likely had a more methodical and "scientific" approach like other artists, working on riffs or tunes here and there and writing a line or two of lyrics and building albums simultaneously over time.
