“Fly Away” is from Hayvenhurst—April 1986, if I’m not mistaken. Never made it to Westlake. The background is murky; all that’s known is that it didn’t make it very far during the Bad sessions, was given to Rebbie for her Yours Faithfully album, and eventually wound up on the 2001 reissue of Bad.

A lot of those songs were recorded in 1990 or 1991 and Teddy Riley began working with MJ in June 1990 so it's either of those years.

I love Fly Away. I think Michael did a fantastic job on it, as did Rebbie in her own right. I would have loved if this was on the final Bad album. This is in my top 5 for the Bad era outtakes, behind Streetwalker & Price Of Fame.
Personally, I think Chicago 1945 is a better title as it indicates the setting and historical context- the lyrics about the 1945 World’s Fair, Al Capone, etc tie into that. Chicago Nights, obviously, does not do that. I also disagree with whoever said Chicago Nights is the better title, it’s too generic for me.

To set the record straight on both your posts, that was a work list from late 1990/early 1991, not a real tracklist. And the "MA and MJ duet" refers to the original plan for In the Closet, which was meant to have a feature from Madonna.
Agreed. Though Chicago Nights sounds smoother, 1945 gives more meaning to the title. Chicago 1945 puts me directly into the setting just by reading the title. Chicago Nights can be a modern day Chicago nightlife meaning for all I know
Also agreed. The EPs potentials are huge for MJ imo and would be a great way to "milk" songs because Michael often have demos and alt. versions available of songs, spanning not over just a few years, but decades.
