but it is in German
can someone please translate this?
It's probably also about Barry Gibb and Quincy Jones and a song called When I Die

it seems like Michael wanted to work with Farian in the late 80s / early 90s...
I am glad he didn“t 😬

Remember what he did with Milli Vanilli ... I just heard a newly (and well) researched podcast about this whole affair ... despicable

Tbh, I do not know too much about Farian, but all I know is bad ... I don“t even like his music, honestly ...

The video above seems to be not just about Farian, but also about Barry Gibb and Quincy Jones, who Michael wanted to work with in the late 80s. That's interesting because Michael separated from Quincy as producer during this time.

interestingggg .... I try to find some time and watch this and do a translation / summary .... but next year :pšŸ˜…

Michael wanted a album with 1/3 songs with Quincy, 1/3 songs with Barry Gibb, 1/3 with Farian and he suggested Farian can decide which songs he wanted. Farian denied because of the Millie Vanillie-project and having no time.
Not believable

In fact, Michael was planning the Decade album at the time.

Sounds like the guy's talking bs.
yes, but Farian said in 2015, that Michael called him to produce four songs:
Michael Jackson's story also ended tragically. You turned down the King of Pop.
Yes, Michael called me in 1989 and asked in a thin voice if I would produce four songs for him. But I refused. I don't produce superstars. I want to dominate the musicians and impose my style on them. That doesn't work with superstars. The bigger the star, the bigger the airs and graces. That's why I always surrounded myself with nameless artists. My ego is big enough.

Maybe not though.

Wiki lists Farian as producer for Stevie's 'I Just Called To Say I Love You' (although it also lists Stevie as producer so ... who knows?). Not saying I buy the guy's story. He could be lying or at least exaggerating. But the Stevie thing is intriguing, assuming it's true.

The most intriguing part of this story, for sure.
Maybe at the beginning of 1989 Michael wasn't sure what the new album would be like and he was still considering working with Quincy again. That wouldn't be so unlikely considering that the Quincy-produced Leave Me Alone was quite a success in early 1989.

Okay, this is CRAZYYYYYY! :ROFLMAO:😵

The guy being interviewed is Dietmar Kawohl, producer and songwriter working with Frank Farian and Milli Vanilli, apparently.

From5:33 onwards Kawohl speaks about Michael Jackson: "The story concerning Michael Jackson is absoutely crazy. I don“t know how to word it. MJ called Farian one day and offered him to produce one third of his next solo album. One third Farian, one third Barry Gibb and one third Quincy Jones was MJs plan. And MJ told Farian he could also chose the titles. Frank Farian replied that, sorry, he doesn“t have time to do it."

Kawohl continues to explain, not Frank was talking to MJ on the phone but his wife Ingrid (her English was better). So Ingrid talked to MJ and told him she would ask her husband but he probably won“t have time.

Kawohl: "And we thought WHAT? And Frank explaind he is currently working on the new Milli Vanilli album and it is not possible ( to work for MJ). And we thought WOW ...he is turning down Michael Jackson to produce one third of his album!?! And I asked him which titles did she (?) choose and he (Farian) answered "When I die, of course!" He had just recorded that song with "Real Milli Vanilli". That is the song I made with him and Peter B. I was speechless: We could have had the chance to be on a Michael Jackson album! Excuse me!?! Have there been ANY German writers for MJ (albums) before? Maybe ... But, anyways, I thought this would have made me immortal. It is unbelievable!"

Interviewer: "That would have been THE highest accolade."

Kawohl: "Just imagine he would have recorded it! ... It would have been a coronation!"

Kawohl continues to narrate Farian admired MJ, but he has never been impressed by big names. And that Farian probably thought I am big myself, nice idea, but this is Milli Vanilli project is more important to me now. Kawohl doesn“t think it had to do with arrogance and says Farian felt honored bei MJs request.

The overall tone of Kawohl here is disbelief, completely understandable! This is a most crazy and insane story.

Thank you so much for doing this. It's all so interesting. I found a quote - can't remember where, not sure of the provenance - where Farian said he didn't want to work with Michael bc he doesn't work with superstars. He's got a super big ego himself so he doesn't want to have to accommodate the ego of the superstar. Something like that.

This šŸ‘‡ might just be the media stirring the pot. I suppose the timing would fit, though. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

"Despite the controversy, Farian remained a successful producer. He produced for Terence Trent D’arby, No Mercy, Stevie Wonder and Meatloaf. However, he rejected a request from Michael Jackson, possibly to mask the deception surrounding Milli Vanilli."

I my text is probably misleading: When I wrote ...

... I meant Kawohl is in disbelief about Farian turning down MJ.

Woah! What tea!
Reality TV gif. Wendy Williams is on the Wendy Williams show and she looks very amused as she looks around at the audience with wide eyes and a closed lipped smile. She picks up her teacup and takes a big sip while staring directly at us.

You have to understand, bluemoon, Frank had other ideas.

The best way to become the next Quincy Jones is to NOT work with Michael. Obviously!

"He took some pride in finally becoming famous in America, even via a scandal. ā€œSomeday we’ll be able to laugh about all this,ā€ he said. ā€œIt’s a pity that I became recognized this way. My great dream is still to produce for 10 more years and be like Quincy Jones. People are realizing now that the new artists are producers. That’s the most important role now.ā€

No, you were crystal clear. The bit I posted was just about the idea that Frank turned down the opportunity to work with Michael so as to keep a low profile in the wake of the Milli Vanilli hoo-ha. I mean, I assume that's the idea. It's a comment from maxazine.com not an actual quote from anyone so I think they are just speculating, possibly just to add to the melodrama.

Thanks to bluemoon for the translation.
What I'm wondering is whether there are any demos/songs from early 1989 that Michael recorded for Quincy and Barry Gibb.

It's interesting that there's a song from Gibb called Childhood Days. It's from 1988. Maybe Michael liked it.

I wonder how dangerous would've sounded with qj

Probably like this album, it came out a couple of years before Dangerous (1989). Al B. Sure! said in an interview that his part on The Secret Garden (from the Black On The Block album) was originally supposed to be sung by Mike, but there was scheduling conflicts. Quincy's 1995 album after this (O's Jook Joint) was more jazz based. I don't think Mike would have done that sound.

On the same channel there is more about Michael:

Oh my goodness!!!! This is a gem! So many awesome and funny and heartwarming stories! :ROFLMAO:šŸ˜

Please watch on youtube with subtitles and leave a like ā¤ļø

"Michael“s handshake was like a blacksmith“s / farrier“s handshake" :ROFLMAO:

"Michael didnĀ“t do the crotchgrab onstage in the presence of Diana Ross and her kids in the audience" :ROFLMAO: šŸ˜

Also, Michael had German Chancellor Helmut Kohl wait in the lobby of an hotel fuming because MJ didn“t check out the presidential suite on time. LMAOOOOO:ROFLMAO:
