Was there going to be a sequel/follow-up to YRMW? Because the ending showed Michael and Marlon Brando have a quick stand-off, and left like there was going to be more to the story. Sorry if this is a dumb question to some, but I'm generally curious. Was Michael going to continue the story with a different song?

I heard there were parts of the dangerous video in you rock my world,so maybe it was leading up to that probably

My head canon was that Brando was reprising his role from The Godfather and MJ somehow knew about him and who he was/what he does.

Does that make sense? No. But it at least gives some context to an otherwise weird cliffhanger.

Michael Jackson was not meant to continue the story with a different song (sequel), considering what was happening backstage during the shooting of the 'You Rock My World' music video.

The 'You Rock My World' music video contains elements and references not only from his 'Dangerous' on stage performance but also from several music videos that Michael Jackson had already released in the past, such as:

- 'BAD'

- 'Smooth Criminal'

- 'The Way You Make Me Feel'

That is why, the 'You Rock My World' music video was described as merely a rehash of his previous on stage performances/music videos.

Yeah I notice that every time I watch it

I think whenever Michael was short of ideas he just went back to the gangster theme.

Unbreakable was supposed to have a short film
Right. I didnt deny that. Michael wanted a 30min short film for unbreakable. It was not meant to follow YRMW because YRMW wasnt the initial lead single is the point i was making. It had leaked years before. Michael wanted unbreakable as the lead single the label did not. They wanted ‘yrmw’ because it was safe and radio friendly and they didnt want to cut the check for what michael wanted for the unbreakable short film thats why we got YRMW.

I feel like they felt like unbreakable was a call out to the media, that's probably why it didn't get that recognition

Probably because they didn't want to spend more money on a 30+ minute video/film. Invincible is literally the most expensive album to this day. I can see why they didn't want to go MJ's route, and went with a 13+ minute video/film of a more friendly song. But if they did go with Unbreakable, the promotion from the film might've justified the expenses.

Definitely! ‘When you bury me, underneath, all yo pain, i’m steady laughing (ha), while surfacing’ whewwww my fave line from the song.

Nah the 30m figure was an exaggeration. I don't deny it cost far more than a penny to make the album but most expensive album ever made, it is not lol

Not years before. "You Rock My World" leaked just a few days before its official release in August 2001, by which point it was already set to be the lead single.

Even on mj.com in 2001 intro was unbreakable

Note that the making of the 'Invincible' album, which took 4 years to complete, included many huge costs, such as:

- The record company paid Rodney Jerkins big monthly salaries so as to abandon other projects with other artists at that time in order for him to better focus on making that album

- The record company built a brand new, luxurious studio for Teddy Riley when he began working on that album

- The record company paid big amounts of money for renting different, costly recording studios in USA during that long period for making that album

- Top producers and songwriters often were being paid without doing anything for days (when they were just sitting in the studio waiting for Michael Jackson to come)

- Michael Jackson wanted to release the most expensive album of all time apparently also due to his vanity

^the 30M wasn't Invincible alone. Expenses for remastering of Michael's previous albums (special editions), discarded Thriller 5.1 SACD, etc.
