The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

My biggest letdown is that "Rock With You" - arguably one of the most iconic songs in MJ's discography and the most defining song of the "Off The Wall" era - isn't even on the soundtrack. This tracklist is making it pretty apparent that they'll be glossing over stuff so they can get to "Thriller" as quickly as possible.

Rock With You is far more relevant than WDAN, but it probably won't bring in as much money for the estate. The tracklist is heavily sales-oriented.

This was obviously slapped together by '80s nostalgia-stricken Gen Xers (or late boomers) who only came to know Michael through Thriller and nothing else.

Maybe they are holding back unreleased songs for another Xscape type album.

There's been some smoke regarding unreleased tracks being worked on and we know Porcaro has come to an agreement with the Estate.

It wouldn't make sense to have some unreleased songs on the soundtrack. Instead, another new album like Xscape would make more sense.

Plus it'd match up with what @mjfp has been saying about a potential third posthumous album.

I don’t foresee there ever being an actual ALBUM like Xscape ever again, would be happy to be proven wrong. i know there is a producer who was reworking MJ tracks in a way that is authentic to the 80s but i doubt we’d get a full album from that. It doesn’t make sense from a business perspective to blow their load with 10 or so high tier songs on a single release when they could instead drip feed the material over the course of decades on stuff like Thriller 40.

I don't think they're interested in MJ's unreleased music.
Clearly not too much, and again business perspective. Why bother putting funds/effort into new projects or doing stuff with unreleased music when he generates over 100 MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR by them doing nothing. He has the most valuable solo catalog on earth. As I’ve said time and time again on this forum; if they wanted to, they would.

im not sure why anyone cares about the hot street reference. they peppered a real song in with a bunch of fakes... which is stupid because they have a list of real songs LIKE hot street that didnt make it. it really is just the leo meme. but if hot street did get another release? who gives a shit, where my snakepit at

I did not expect any unreleased material on a movie soundtrack .The movie was always going to be about connecting/reconnecting with the massive hits he actually left behind. I am shocked that a couple of live tracks aren't included, though. Could the Jackson 5 parts all be flashbacks?

Just checked - the Bohemian Rhapsody tracklist that was announced matched that of the final release. Highly unlikely there will be any additions here.

Danny Elfman's score for Multiverse of Madness was revised after the release date of the film to include 3 additional songs that would have been major spoilers. Apples and oranges, though.

Are there people on this planet that not have these songs already..?

1. I’ll Be There – The Jackson 5 (3:58)

3. Who’s Lovin’ You – The Jackson 5 (4:02)
4. Medley: I Want You Back / ABC / The Love You Save (Live from the 1981 U.S. Tour) – The Jacksons (3:00)
5. Ben (Live from the 1981 U.S. Tour) – The Jacksons (3:06)
6. Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough (6:06)

I'm shocked they are releasing a physical version of this.

Ahoj!
Som Michaelovým fanúšikom už takmer 33 rokov, ale už ma nebaví vaša nečinnosť od vydania Xscape! Čo ste urobili so soundtrackom k filmu Michael?! Po prvé, chýba mu skladba Rock with you (obrovský hit z éry Off the Wall)! Po druhé, kde sú skladby z albumu BAD (Smooth criminal a Man in the Mirror - dva megahity a Michaelova hymna)?!!!! Po tretie - nemohli ste obohatiť soundtrack o živé verzie, demá a aspoň jednu nevydanú skladbu zo sessions Thriller?!!? Hanba vám!!! Zase to isté!!! Kde je živá verzia Billie Jean z relácie Motown25? Kde je živá verzia Human Nature z turné Victory!!! Kde je demo Hot Street!!! Kde je živá verzia BAD!!! Úplne ste zničili celý soundtrack!!! Staráte sa len o peniaze a nie o fanúšikov!!! Hanba vám!!!!

With some reflection, I do think it’s a bit silly to expect unreleased music on a biopic soundtrack (and yes, I say this as someone who was insisting there would be lmao). This is clearly aimed at the general audience and/or newcomers, so I absolutely don’t think it’s unusual that it’s essentially a greatest hits album that isn’t geared at the hardcore fans. That said, I do hope these songs are given exciting new mixes à la Bohemian Rhapsody.

Regardless, there’s definitely more coming. The Kirk Franklin snippet; the comments from Humberto Gatica, Brody Brown, and Teddy Riley; Prince’s past comments about combing through the vault, if not the soundtrack, there’s 100% another project in the pipeline.

theres nothing greatest hits about this album

Not really surprised, I thought maybe they would do the This is It formula with the songs from the movie and maybe two demos from previously released songs but wasn't expecting more than that.
The remixes of his original songs are probably gonna be movie only or on a separate score album.

They'll sell 2.000 copies at best. Who needs this? Just buy Number Ones instead.
