The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

I have a friend who is slowly dying from a brain tumor.

We found out two years ago. Since then, he's been under medical supervision, of course.

But that didn't stop him from going out with friends, etc.

Three years ago, we promised each other we'd go to the movies to see "Michael."

But for the past two weeks, he's been bedridden, paralyzed in one leg, and on morphine. Palliative care will be next.
The end is near.
Just three weeks ago, he was doing well, and we had plans to go see the movie, meet up with other friends—in short, I wanted him to enjoy life as much as possible.
Life is truly cruel sometimes.

Sorry, beltrano (as you’re my favourite poster 😉) but I agree with innuendo on this.

The film is doing ANAZIMG numbers but, it’s run is coming to an end in most major territories (unless someone can tell me otherwise), and the numbers will slow right down.

June will give the film a boost, when it opens in Japan. 👍 But not enough, from what I hear, to get near 1 billion total.

Given the long run, and relative lack of competition that Bo Rap had (not to mention all out media support!), MICHAEL would have smashed 1 billion, for sure.

As it is, I think $650-700 million will be fantastic. 💪
time will tell

I have a question for those who saw the movie in other languages than English: how in the world did they handle the word "doo-doo head"? :ROFLMAO: Did they attempt to translate it?
i saw it in english but there was norwegian subtitles i remember they did translate it but i cant remember how they did it

So sorry to hear this. 😢😢

I was told, only in February, that I have an incurable (but, hopefully, treatable) stage 4 lymphoma cancer. The shock of being told that has turned mine and my wife’s lives upside down.

Reading your post puts into perspective how some other people have it even worse.

You’re both in my prayers.

You can see the poster for This Is It in the backround, yes?
Yeah, I was joking. Like, the TII poster in the back - how’s that possible if it came out before MJ passed away?

Although... TII was being filmed while Michael was still alive... so, who knows, who knows.

Does anyone know how Bo Rap managed to have such a long run at the theatres?

I mean. I’ve heard it didn’t coincide with too much competition but, even so, month after month of being available in cinemas is very unusual, as far as I know.
Domestic - only 200M. Other territories - 700M (Japan + South Korea 200M!).

I genuinely didn't know if you were joking or not to be honest...

But regardless of who knows, I don't believe 1997 MJ met 2009 Ronaldo.

I'm really sorry to hear this...

I'm no longer a believer, but I offer you my sincere support. This must be a terrible ordeal. Stay strong. Beat it.

Boh Rap has an advantage of a longer theatrical run window. Pre-pandemic about 90 days...now if you're lucky 45 days and that is coming from the big distributors and or production studios like Warner Brothers.Paramount or Universal...while Lionsgate is of the smaller ...streaming does not count towards box office right?

The bigger the movie, the longer it takes to arrive on streaming. It’s in Lionsgate’s interest to keep it in theaters as long as possible.

ok so I've seen the movie 4 times now and I love it despite its historical inaccuracies and my nitpicks lol (biopics have to take creative liberties), but i am DYING to know why paris jackson says that it's "fantasy land" and that it panders to a certain faction of her dad's fanbase. she shouldn't say such ambiguous things like that because the media will run with it and say that she believes her dad is guilty. does she really believe that now??? i fail to see how "sugarcoated" the movie was. of course MJ was not perfect. maybe he was a bit of a diva sometimes for lack of a better term lol and we didn't see him use his actual voice and maybe stuff like that is what she's alluding to...? his public persona vs. the person she knew? but does that mean she thinks he wasn't a great person? do you guys think she actually believes the cascios now? it freaks me out that she might now think that her dad is guilty

sorry for bringing up something negative, but this is actually driving me insane lol like why would she say something like that (the reasons) AND why would she say something like that (when she most likely knows that the media will have a field day with it)?
I know haters are salivating over this but she likely meant nothing more than, "it's not complex enough in representing his negatives or making him close to real life and rather idealizes him, which his core fanbase will love". I don't think she cares if a bunch of people are inferring nefarious things nor does she need to - she didn't say anything bad. The movie is very sugarcoated indeed - not sure how you fail to see this.

My face when I found out they removed a voiceover

For those that know, you know.

It might be that the audience is more involved now for the earlier part, but it seems to me they should have been able to explain a lot of details up to the point what they were going for in the original cut with the voiceover (the cut 3rd act)

A 90 day window for movies in the cinema were common pre pandemic/ pre streaming take over…

I’d kill to see the original 4 hour cut with voice over - it sounds so interesting! Nevertheless, I get the feeling, as Fuqua said himself, that what we ended up with was a blessing rather than a curse. Fitting in everything before 1993 using flashbacks and voiceover is… a choice
So like avoiceover with mikesvoice?
