Akon picks who’s more talented: Michael Jackson or Prince

Prince's superbowl performance is the greatest performance in superbowl history, even better than Michael's performance, in my opinion. I have watched it countless times. It had everything. Great live vocals, great band, great setlist and the rain during the performance of purple rain. It is an iconic performance.
I'd actually put Bruno's first Superbowl right there with Prince, or at least right after. It had incredible energy.

MJ was great, but he really did not shake things up live at all.

I have never seen Bruno Mar's superbowl but I will check it out.

Michael did set the template for Superbowl performances, but I wish he performed more than four songs.

Yes, it was a really good performance. And the Red Hot Chilli Peppers appear too, it's quite hype-worthy.

I wish MJ had gotten to do a second Superbowl. That would've been one for the all time record book.

Shannon Sharpe and Akon are on another planet to reality, literally can't see past the bubble of the American audience, can they? To even put Chris Brown and Michael in the same sentence just shows how clueless they are about the 'Global' reach of Michael Jackson compared to Chris and his tunnel of America only.

Time has passed. People are far removed from the classics. They never really had that much knowledge of it in the first place.

So for Mike it wasn't that hard to model his performance. He just used the vision that he had for his then on-going tour.
It was revolutionary but the dude made the concept ,that he later used for performance, way before the Superbowl happened.
What I mean is that what he tehnically did on stage there wasn't that new for him.
Well in the same vein, Prince just stood in the stage. It wasn't that unique of a concept either. I mean sure, it rained, but it's not Prince made that happen either.

It's actually hilarious how this thread has been brigaded by Prince fanboys lost on the way to Prince.org or whatever lol. These the same people who won't even touch Prince after The Rainbow Children. Nothing Prince did in the 90s came close to what MJ was doing on Dangerous & HIStory. Quality over quantity.

@zinniabooklover, the exact same thing can be said from the other side.
Indeed. This is exactly why I said this:

Other opinions are available. This is mine - Michael is boss. Prince isn't.

P.S. Those of you who love Prince, I am very happy for you!
Prince, as an artist, is endlessly interesting, exciting and fascinating to Prince's fans.
He is. And, as I have already said, I'm really pleased for them.

I think this whole "who's more talented" "comparison" is 100% pointless.

I do not consider myself a Prince fan, though I do like some of his songs in a casual manner. I also have a lot of respect for him as an artist. But Michael Jackson is, as a whole, more my "thing"; it's hard to explain exactly why, and not really the point of this post anyway. My actual point is that both of these gentlemen were each good at different things. Prince played many instruments yes, but who was the better dancer? That's right. Vocally I'd say they were about equal (yet different in style), same when it comes to songwriting.

Really, that's the whole thing: they're equal, but different. And Michael Jackson happens to be more in my alley, even if that's based purely on opinion alone. And that's okay! I have no interest in fighting Prince fans for thinking differently, because in the end it matters absolutely nothing. Although I do question why anyone would come to a Michael Jackson fan forum only to proclaim how much "better" Prince is, but hey, that's just me.

Also good Lord I am SO TIRED of Chris Brown. Can't he just disappear already! 🤢 The constant comparisons to Michael actually make me sick. Yes I am 100% biased against him but I don't care, I'm just tired of seeing him everywhere I go! He's severely overrated and not a pleasant person at all. That already makes him nothing like Michael, in my opinion. Surface-level dance skills can't make up for all that.

Well I did my research. I've heard both catalogues extensively.
So did I.
Nothing on Dangerous or History tops "Joy In Repetition" and "The Question Of U" for me.(from the "Grafitti Bridge" album).
The lycris are excellent, ambigue, mysterious and the music fits just right. Not to mention "The Question Of U" is extremely unique on its own:it's like 3 songs in one record. And "Joy in Repetition" has one of the most haunting guitar licks I have ever heard, that goes perfectly along with the erotic, yet not pornographic suggestive lycris.
Only "Earth Song" and "Give into me" (from Mike's 90's output) are as great as these Prince songs,in my opinion.

This pointless comparison has been going on since 1983.

Well, that's not the only comparison:

Beatles vs Rolling Stones
Beatles vs Monkees
Paul McCartney vs John Lennon
Jackson 5 vs The Osmonds
Jackson 5 vs The Sylvers
Kool Moe Dee vs LL Cool J
Van Halen (DLR vs Hagar. I don't think many people count Gary Cherone's Van Halen III)
Debbie Gibson vs Tiffany
Genesis (Peter Gabriel vs Phil Collins)
Notorious B.I.G. vs. Tupac
Madonna vs Janet Jackson
Whitney Houston vs Mariah Carey
NSYNC vs Backstreet Boys
Beyoncé vs Rihanna
50 Cent vs Kanye West

Ha. Prince has never done anything that matches the brilliance of They Don’t Care About us, imo of course. TDCAU is a generational song that has so much gravitas that the songs popularity only increases with each passing year. Brilliant, poetic, powerful and timeless.

I think Earth Song is better =))

Singing: I prefer MJ greatly but that can’t be a surprise
Dancing: MJ is better no discussion
Lyrics: Prince
Composing: for me MJ
Performing: Prince but that is mainly MJ’s own fault
Best album ever: THRILLER sorry Prince
Videoclips: MJ
Fair enough.

Well first of all, Graffiti Bridge is from 1990, so I don't personally count it as a 90s record.

But even if I did, well, you just gave me two songs just as good lol. Earth Song and Stranger in Moscow to me, are perfect lol.

I'm talking about Prince's warring days with WB mostly.

I still think saying "akshually Prince is better" on a Michael Jackson fan forum is asking for trouble.
Not really, at least the comments against Prince are pretty mild and just about his music, talent, videos, or dancing. Do the same thing on a Prince site and you get all kinds of insults about Mike and they are really bad like a lot of "W.J.", bleaching/surgery jokes, and people that think he's guilty. Some consider it an insult that Mike (or just about anybody else) is compared to Prince because they say Mike is "only an entertainer". Well, that's similar to what you get on a rock music site, comments about heavy metal & hard rock being "real music" and Top 40 is "not real" or "music for women/girls/teenyboppers".

And music for women or girls isn't real music?
I love the way you presented the facts but there is so much misogyny out there in the world ,it's just disgusting. I can't understand how some people can think it is an insult to an artist to call his/her music "for women". Like even if it was for the girls, what's wrong? And how is "the music for boys/men superior"? Those songs where the singer brags about how much sex he had with thousands of girls and how many drugs he had just taken?
I know i'm off topic but misogyny is just ridiculous and wrong, and it even shows through such examples as the music world. Saying this as a male btw ,if it makes sense 😂😅

True,Prince fans react in a very harsh manner ,at least some of them...for some reason

Well, perhaps "trouble" was a strong word. What I really meant to say is that I don't think many people would agree with the whole "Prince is BETTER than Michael Jackson!" on a Michael Jackson fan site.

Saying something along the lines of, "Well, actually I personally prefer Prince, but I really like Michael Jackson as well, which is why I'm here" would be fine to me. Michael doesn't have to be everyone's #1 artist, not even on a fan site. Lord knows I've been on fan sites during my teen years of artists that weren't my personal #1. But that's different from saying "Prince is OBJECTIVELY more talented!!" on a forum that... isn't about Prince. Like what, do you think a bunch of hardcore Michael Jackson fans are suddenly going to change their minds? Lol, that's never going to happen. They'd be posting on Prince.org or wherever instead if that were the case. I just think posting things like this is fruitless and bordering on trolling.

I do agree with you that on average, MJ fans seem to be more tolerant towards Prince than the other way around. By no means all Prince fans of course, and there are plenty who like both, but there is a pattern there. Heck, I don't consider myself a Prince fan but I have no problem with him, I even respect him as an artist even if not everything he makes/does is my thing.

what Acon misses is that talented in some parts can be a lot of people, but no one can be Michael Jackson ! he simply was one and only !
yes there can be someone who is better musician than Michael, there is someone who is better singer, vocalist , and so on ...
but overall there can be, no one brighter than Michael !

and there is only one explanation to this, all this other people are talented people, but Michael is phenomenal ! no one similar to him .

what played biggest part in creating Michael 's enormous name is his absolutely uniqueness and mind blowing originality in creation.
he is a creator of show business ! first in everything we have today. he created todays pop culture all alone, when there was nothing like it.
that's why all todays celebrities say they own it to Michael Jackson ! He created their concept, he created what they are today !

so if someone plays better on the instruments, or has better vocals, or does outstanding live, it can not cover MJ's bright Shine !Because it's too bright.

he was like a bright diamond among stones,
he was like a firecracker in the midnight sky !
no one can be compared !

I accept that there are musicians more talented then him in some parts, but overall as a superstar he has it all better than anyone else ever could. there is no one who can be called mega star ! he is the brightest star, he is the meaning of the star . that's it !

so you want to find a better musician , you can. but still no one can be bigger star than he is ! and will never be ! simple as that. and he is that's big, because he was talented in his way, nothing similar you can find in anyone else. so comparison is just stupid.
