BAD25 | Charts & Sales History

I went to the show in London last night and I didn't see any copies of bad25 being sold or advertised.

I agree...I looked everywhere for it, and was really surprised not to see it there. They must have thought it would interfere with 'Immortal' sales. But the DVD could have been sold as a stand -alone. Perhaps there is something in the Cirque contract that doesn't permit sales of non-cirque merchandise, but it seems ( from the Estate's point of view) a huge 'missed opportunity'.

^ What does it have to do with MJ's sales?

... at least.... it can be comparison with special edition of box sets - MJ vs. The Beatles, the prices, the content... and the chart performances..., even though its a limited edition.
But it was FYI.

According to mediatraffic Bad sold 47 000 copies in the second week (it's an unofficial estimate, not an official number). So that would make the total sales about 170 000 worldwide, according to mediatraffic estimates.

http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums.htm

For the third week there are 34.000 copies sold according to mediatraffic. So its now a total of 200.000...

The estate said that they are going to release another snippet from SL's document when BAD 25 has sold 1 million copies.
I guess at this rate, we are going to seen it on telly before there are any snippets out:(

Just FYI -
Beatles album catalog will get back to vinyl Nov. 13

http://www.spin.com/articles/the-beatles-remastered-lp-vinyl-reissue

Limited to 50,000 copies globally, the box will come with an LP-size, 252-page hardcover book by BBC producer Kevin Howlett.

The announcement had no information about list price for the albums, but Amazon has the box set priced at $399.99 for pre-order. Individual titles are likely to sell for $25 to $30 each.

600

This would be my dream and a dream of many, that the Estate would creat audiophile masters of all MJ's albums and put them on a stick...

Beatle fans got it all, DVD Audio discs in super high quality surround sound (which sounds off the hook) Bluray releases of OLD footage, etc.

Damn, If only. I wish we could have the opportunity to chat with the Estate here.

Yeah, I don't think we'll see any snippets. Even though they spoke about 1 million units, not 1 million copies sold, but I still don't think there's any way it can sell that much before the documentary is aired. Well, unless they sold a signicant number of copies through mj.com, and didn't report those sales to chart compilers. But it's dropping on the charts everywhere, and it's already fallen out of the chart in many countries. I guess it's doing ok for a re-release of an album so many people already have, but I don't think it can sell a huge number of copies.

BAD25 has now fallen out of the UK Top 100 albums chart.

However, Number Ones has moved up from #100 to #85 in its 292nd week on the chart. This is no doubt with the help of the Cirque du Soleil shows.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to Number Ones chart position in next week's chart after more Cirque performances.

It's really cool to see how effective that documentary was. I wonder if people just hadn't realized it was out or if they needed to be reminded how much they love Mike/Bad, because people are wanting more than just Bad items. This is why I wish the media would give Mike his fair dues, if they didn't always make digs about him and all his music post-Thriller I feel like he'd sell so much more than he does. It's funny how after that doc people sought out almost everything post-Thriller too.

So do these sales count as Bad overall for the certification or do they count as something separate?

Wow! One thing I have to say - Repeat the Docu on TV, both of them!! And why not show some other cool things on TV as well, like TII or MSG 30th? Do it in the weeks before the holiday season and we might see a mirracle happen.

Wembley DVD #4 in Sweden.
It was #12 last week.

I'm glad this is a sticky.

Amazing to see how the doc effected sales in Germany.

When will we know how U.S. sales are effected by the Oscar run?

I don't understand the back and forth of the doc airing in the UK.

I'm not sure whether this bit of news belongs here but admins can move it if necessary.

Lots of yada yada, important bit bolded:)

Sony reduces loss on sales recovery, restructuring
Troubles were exacerbated last year by factory and supplier damage in northeastern Japan from the March earthquake and tsunami
APPublished: 15:01 November 1, 2012

Tokyo: Sony Corp reported on Thursday a smaller flow of red ink for the fiscal second quarter on a sales recovery and restructuring efforts and stuck to its full year forecast for a return to profit from its worst loss in company history the previous year.
The Japanese electronics and entertainment company recorded a 15.5 billion yen ($193 million) loss for the July-September period, much better than the 27 billion yen loss racked up the same period the previous year. Quarterly sales improved 1.9 per cent to 1.6 trillion yen ($20 billion).
The Tokyo-based maker of Bravia TVs and the PlayStation 3 game machine remains in deep trouble as does much of the Japanese electronics industry — slammed by cheaper competition in flat-panel TVs, and by Apple Inc. of the US and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. in mobile devices.
Sony, which reported a record annual loss of 457 billion yen ($5.7 billion) for the fiscal year ended March 31, its fourth straight year of red ink, stuck to its forecast to eke out a 20 billion yen ($250 million) profit for the current fiscal year.

Sony said it had carried out cost cuts in its flat-panel TV operations and sales improved in its mobile phone segment, but sales faltered in its digital cameras because of the popularity of smartphones, according to the company. It continues to lose money in its TV business, now in its ninth straight year of losses.
Its game unit also suffered as the drop in hardware and software sales of the PlayStation 3 home console was not offset by the sales of the new PS Vita hand-held machine.
Sony’s troubles were exacerbated last year by factory and supplier damage in northeastern Japan from the March earthquake and tsunami.
Sony is aiming for a comeback under Kazuo Hirai, appointed president in April, who headed the company’s game division and built his career in the U.S.
For the latest quarter, Sony Pictures Entertainment got a perk from the strong performance of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” offset by the less successful “Total Recall.” In music, strong-sellers included P!nk’s “The Truth about Love” and Michael Jackson’s “Bad - 25th Anniversary,” it said.
As part of its turnaround efforts, Sony recently sold its chemical products business. It also acquired U.S.-based Gaikai Inc. to set up a new cloud service, which delivers massive virtual storage, to expand interactive entertainment offerings. Sony also plans to start selling a super TV next month called “4K” that has an 84-inch display delivering superior image quality.
Sony says it’s hoping to take advantage of its digital imaging and sensor technology for security and medical markets. But analysts say it’s unclear when the payoff for such forays will materialize.

^Yeah, the Bad Wembley tour DVD did better than the Bad25 album. I really hope once the doc airs, both CD and DVD will emerge and rise on the charts again.
