60000 people we cannot contact because all are down, including buildings, phonelines..... everything

Re: >> Chinese members...please check in...

As far as I know, families of all the members in our Chinese MJ site are basically safe

but many Chinese in the district chose to sleep outside their house last night. becuz we have hundreds of aftershocks///. wtf!!!

so streets are full of people. like 9/11.

now our troops are heading to the worst areas, but they can't get through since there are too many landslides and so on

now almost 24 hours have past since the huge quake!!!
I don't know how many people can survive, I'm pretty pretty sad.

Re: >> Chinese members...please check in...

according to my sources, many schools collapes

in one, over a thousand teachers and students are buried when they had classes

now their parents are around it, they have nothing to do except crying.

Many cultural heritages are damaged, and , for your information, the worst area is also the home of China's giant panda

Thank you for the update mkgenie, my thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones and with all the chinese people. This is so sad and devastating, so many lives lost and so close after the Burma tragedy. It makes me realised how blessed I am and my heart goes out to those who suffer.

A strong aftershock measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The epicenter of Tuesday's quake was again in Wenchuan County, said Yin Zhaomin, an official with the China Seismological Bureau.

This was the strongest aftershock after the devastating quake, measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, hit Wenchuan County, 159 km northwest of Chengdu on Monday afternoon.

Office workers in downtown Chengdu took to the streets again after the quake. Many said they felt clearly the buildings were rocking and bottles toppled.

Experts with the China Earthquake Networks Center said strong aftershocks may still rock Wenchuan, though quakes exceeding 7.8 on the Richter scale are unlikely.

The region, which experts said is historically prone to earthquakes, has suffered more than 1,950 aftershocks in the past 25 hours, including three over 6 on the Richter scale and 14 between 5 and 6.
