Maybe this thread needs clearer rules to know what is allowed and what is not. I do not believe in God, in fact I am an atheist myself, but I feel empathy for believers who see their thread polluted by messages against their beliefs. They can believe in whatever they want and that's okay. No need to share memes against them ;)

Everyone should believe in what helps them lead a better life. I'm just here to provide some general education that everyone should have, like the theory of evolution. This is not magic, it is science.

Topic of Christianity: I consider myself a Christian, I was born into it like I was born into my family. BUT, I do struggle a lot with being Christian, especially being catholic. I am on the verge of quitting, I feel it is the right thing to leave the catholic church as an institution, but it still hurts ...

I still pay church tax. But not for long. I haven't been to church in decades.
If I believe in something, it's in medicine and science and that the future will be better. It starts with us, the men and women in the mirror.

Mildly interesting article but:

1) "Although the study does not specifically mention it, the nucleus accumbens, and the reward system in general, are associated with the addictive triggers that tells the brain love and drug-taking are pleasurable and should be repeated."

2) "Seven women and 12 men ..." - this is a tiny sample. Ridiculously tiny!

3) "The authors do concede that far more work, into multiple religions, needs to be carried out to confirm the results. And that the participants may have self-reporting heightened spiritual feelings “out of a desire to appear more socially consistent with the aims of the study”.

Maybe in 20 years when a decent number of longitudinal studies have been done, then they can start to hypothesise. I'm not even convinced this was a well-designed study. It didn't sound all that rigorous to me. Not to mention the headline is deliberately sensational. This nucleus accumbens, which is linked to drug-taking, is also linked to feelings/ideas about love. Which most people would agree is a positive thing (usually) but the headline is focused solely on the drugs thing.

Imo, definitely a case of ... 'more information needed!'

Yeah but with everything living there has to be a beginning and end. What I am saying is, if there is no creator, how did even the mother species just appear? You are not proving anything.

You can give meaning to life even without religion. That is exactly what our planet, plagued by climate change and war, urgently needs: a sense of reality.

You can give meaning to life even without religion. That is exactly what our planet, plagued by climate change and war, urgently needs: a sense of reality.

I don’t think simply understand life at all. For them to reproduce, they need to be created, so how are they created? God is the answer. That percentage doesn’t prove how they were created either. You are using Wikipedia out of all places too which is a dumb move.

Edit: If we cannot get around the fact that a creation needs a creator, we are going to get no where in the conversation.

For me the creator is Nature. No God for me. At least... A Goddess. But I think everyone can believe whatever they feel like 💌
