Jackson's mother was watching how her abusive husband abused MJ for years, yet she didn't do a single thing!

In my opinion mother should be willing to die just to protect her son!

On the other side, i know that she loved MJ deeply, so i kinda like her...

i think it's not fair to attack Katherine... who knows what she had to go through with Joseph...

im sure katherine stood up to joe many many times. michael said she even yelled 4 joe to stop becuz he was going to kill him

Yeah this is unfair, we don't know what happened. She was probably scared too as well.

Look. A person close to me went thru the same thing. Abusive father, mother just watched.

That person loves her mother. But in my opinion her mother should do more. I know that it's easy to be scared and that it's easy to talk what one has to do, but seriously, just watching how someone is beating your son daily and do nothing is... well... it's something that should have no excuses...

as far as i'm concerned blame should not be apportioned to katherine, we all know how much michael loved her fiercely to the extent that in his will he asked for her to care for his children in his untimely death. this clearly shows he himself did not hold any ill will towards his mother.

who am i, an outsider to be critical of her? when we don't actually know what action she took when joe was disciplining his children, maybe she did step in and defend them.

we weren't there, we don't know.

michael probably didn't hate his dad either, afterall you don't go out and buy boats for people you dislike to enjoy.

I have to agree with you. I'm not giving Katherine all the blame per se, but I don't see her as totally blameless either. Yes, I know Michael loved her dearly and referred to her as a "saint" but I feel she was probably too weak in protecting her children. I have even seen her on interview a couple of years ago defending Joe's actions with the kids, saying how it wasn't that bad! Yeah, right that's why Michael got hurt so deeply.

None of us know how Joe raised those kids. Janet herself came to her father's defense to say her siblings weren't abused. He probably was a stern father but not a horrible one. The media has made this man to be a villian, just like they MJ look like a weirdo, and portrayed the Jackson family as a weird family. Michael said what he said about his father in my opinion because he wanted more affections from him, he wanted to have a personal bond with his father and we don't know if they ever reconciled their past. He whupped his kids, just like a lot of people I know, including myself got whuppings. Katherine was a good mother to her kids, in my opinion. Joe has supported his son in both trials, I've never seen Joe say anything slanderous about his son in interviews, I've also never heard from anyone in the family saying that Joe beat Katherine or even hit her. To me Joe is misjudged as much as his son MJ.

I agree, Back then child abuse was alot more common and not against the law as it is now, and TMZ are showing Joe in a different life where he is laughing and playing with the grandkids, I think he knows what he did was OTT and is sorry for it and know wants to try and make up for it, But none of his children ever say they were abused they just say there father was very stern, we all know what the media can do to people, look at MJ

You know, after I saw Joe's interview at the BET Awards, talking cheerfully about his new record company just two days after his son's death, I understood for the first time what Michael was talking about all along. I have no desire to defend that man in any way. Michael didn't turn out the way he was by himself. There must have been a reason for his low self-esteem and high self-loath, don't you think? I don't think he just talked himself into a self-pity or something. There's nothing misjudged about Joe IMO. He is the bastard he seems to be. Sorry.

Also Bruce Sweiden said that when they were in the studio with Michael - who was already an adult at the time - his father would show up just to bother Michael and Bruce and Quincy had to escort him out of the studio! How is that? To show up just to bother your son? Sorry, but this guy tortured Michael physically and mentally and now you guys make excuses for him and say it wasn't that bad after all? How do you know? It seems like Quincy and Bruce felt it bad enough to escort him out from the studio....

Also the movie "The jacksons: An American Dream" was produced by Jermaine. And the beatings are well documented in that film. Does Jermaine lie too?

Joe himself admitted the beatings in an interview, although he tried to play them down by saying "beating is when you beat someone with a stick, I just used a belt". Well, thank you, Joe, that's a lot better.

Good points, Respect!

The fans that are saying that it wasn't that bad obviously don't know much about psychology...

Oh, and someone said that it was not against the law back then. Well, that doesn't change anything and it doesn't have anything to do with how bad father Joe was!
