Donald Trump elected as America's 45th President.

TBH, I'm not surprised by this. Nothing much surprises me about Trump anymore. And he has to undo everything Obama did, no matter what it is because he hates him that much.

Yes, this seems to be the main motivation for his supporters as well. If liberals hate it, they love it, even if it means stripping away their health care, poisoning their air and water, defunding the schools their children go to and handing over their money to the top 1%. Instead of defending this administration's policies, most Trump supporters I've seen just gloat about being in power and getting to undo everything the previous President did.

On the other hand, it's not surprising that Trump gets away with these ridiculous claims that the whole world is taking advantage of the US, considering the US media does an awful job at challenging and fact-checking him. When Trump accuses Europe of leeching off the US for security and not paying "their fair share", the media goes along with that narrative entirely, at most adding a note that the US should continue to militarily support Europe regardless. Americans are not exposed to the European perspective on this issue - and that is not to say that the Americans are wrong and the Europeans are right, but hearing the other side of the story might help to put things in context and lower the appeal of a nationalistic "America First" message.

(For a start, it would be helpful if the media clarified that the 2% of GDP in military spending is a non-binding benchmark set for 2024, that countries invest in their own national defense so no one "owes" the US any money, that there are legitimate historical reasons for which European nations are wary of significant military spending by their neighbours, that many European countries have already announced investments in defense and security but this takes time to take effect, that Europeans have a more expansive view of global security which includes UN peacekeeping missions - on which the EU contributed almost 6000 police, military experts and troops compared to a mere 73 by the US, that Europe has given shelter to millions of refugees from the Middle East and North Africa over the past three years, that NATO's Article 5 was only invoked once in history and that was by the US after 9/11, that Europe bears the brunt of the risks and costs of sanctions on Iran and Russia or military action in the ME, that Europe spends way more on international aid than the US, etc. With this in mind, dismissing an entire continent as leeches is not going to go over well -_-).

Or consider Trump's latest speech that said, among other laughable things:

Beyond the severe energy restrictions inflicted by the Paris Accord, it includes yet another scheme to redistribute wealth out of the United States through the so-called Green Climate Fund -- nice name -- which calls for developed countries to send $100 billion to developing countries all on top of America’s existing and massive foreign aid payments. So we’re going to be paying billions and billions and billions of dollars, and we’re already way ahead of anybody else. Many of the other countries haven’t spent anything, and many of them will never pay one dime.

The Green Fund would likely obligate the United States to commit potentially tens of billions of dollars of which the United States has already handed over $1 billion -- nobody else is even close; most of them haven’t even paid anything -- including funds raided out of America’s budget for the war against terrorism.

Took me about 2 seconds to find the actual data on countries' contributions to the Green Climate Fund: http://www.greenclimate.fund/partners/contributors/resources-mobilized No, the US is not way ahead of anybody else, in fact it's not even in the top 10 main contributors per capita despite being the world's leading polluter per capita, both historically and currently. So now Trump has announced that the US will not contribute to a global effort to combat climate change, that the US will seek to gain an unfair advantage over responsible nations that do implement environmental regulations even though they're not the worst offenders, and that the US will not provide any financial compensation to mitigate the catastrophic damage they're inflicting on the world (and on poorer nations in particular). And this clown has the gall to accuse others of being a leech -_-

Trump is honestly such an absolute f*cking imbecile. He doesn't care, he's in his 70s and not even in the best of health. He'll be dead within a decade or two, if that, so his moronic actions these past few days will have no effect on him.

He's not even a remotely decent person, it's truly mind boggling how some people genuinely believe he is even slightly capable of properly running the country. I respect the office of the President of the United States but I haven't the slightest inkling of respect for that racist, sexist, bullying, hypocritical snob who has the vocabulary of a 4 year old.

That's what happens when you surround yourself with yes men. He's completely incapable of taking criticism, labelling it 'fake news' no matter how truthful it actually is.

I concur with each and every word of this.
Hell, he just makes up his own dumb ass words now.
Dafuq is covfefe.

They HAD to use knives and a truck BECAUSE they couldn't get a hold of guns!! Imagine how much worse these attacks would be if they took place in a country where guns were much easier to obtain and they had obtained them!!!

Donald Trump is honestly such an imbecile it's unbelievable.

Yes, let's give potential terrorists easy access to assault rifles, that'll make us all feel safer

And the White House hasn't even issued an official statement. The "official" reaction is just Trump's dumb tweets. SMH.

Not to mention that his tweets are disrespectful as hell. Here he is taunting London's mayor Sadiq Khan, who told Londoners that there would be an increased police presence in the coming days but that there was no need to be alarmed as this is just for their protection and safety.

At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"
— Donald J. Note sure where else to put this but this gave me chills :) The other performances as well. One Love Manchester raised $9 million for victims of the attack.

I'm amazed by some of the concert scenes I've seen on the news. And especially the stories of heroism from the attacks.
People can be really good, after all.

PS: I heard Ariana Grande closed her performance by singing You Are Not Alone. I wonder if it also has to do with the fact the song was playing in the arena when the bomb went off.

Nope, she sung Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I saw on the news that she closed with Over the Rainbow too. Did she sing YANA during the show?

I think it was a good song to finish the concert with

That whole 'knifes and a truck" comment vs guns... Lets not forget that the guns and explosives these terrorists have were handed to by the US government. We (America) just seem to wash our hands for the blood we help shed and point the finger..

Side note, in the United States there are 8 times more murders within our country than ISIS has murdered since they have been established in all countries.. You know how scary most of the world "Seems" to Americans because the way the media represents this? meanwhile we have a much higher chance being killed in our own country (United States).. We have this fake sense of security and safety that does not exist, thinking we are better in that regard.

^ You could have warned us about the second picture :puke: Only someone with as little self-awareness as Donald would feel entitled to comment on women's appearances looking like that.

That's why I felt justified in uploading the images :)
I'm truly sick and tired of his open, unremitting misogyny and most specifically his inability to see past a woman's appearance. :throwingstones

he's supposed to be a national role-model, for goodness' sake. Heaven only knows what lessons younger people are learning from him.

On another topic, I love the president's remarks on the Signing an Executive Order on the National Space Council, yesterday. There is a brilliant Twitter thread about it. :) This is part of the OFFICIAL (!) transcript. I wonder what historians will make of it, when reading the presidential papers in 100 or more years' time. :

The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release June 30, 2017

Remarks by the President Signing an Executive Order on the National Space Council

Roosevelt Room
3:13 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, very much. You don't mind if I do that? Get rid of it. (Laughter.)

Thank you very much to our great Vice President and also for the fantastic job that Mike has been doing.

The future of American space leadership -- we're going to lead again. It’s been a long time. It’s over 25 years, and we're opening up, and we are going to be leading again like we've never led before.

[.........several pre-scripted paragraphs are read out]

(The order is signed.)

At about 07.27 on the video:

Donald is now off-script:

COLONEL ALDRIN: 'Infinity and beyond'. (Laughter.)

THE PRESIDENT: This is infinity here. It could be infinity. We don’t really don’t know. But it could be. It has to be something -- but it could be infinity, right?

Okay. (Applause.)

Could he sound any more incoherent?

I just watched 3 minutes of it, but IMO all he does is repeat himself on the topic, ... it is boring to listen.

Everybody needs to read that twitter thread. The gifs are HYSTERICAL.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) We need a bit of light relief, amid all the seriously messed-up stuff that is going on. :(

I saw on the Twitter thread that someone said (of Trump's egoism) 'He wants to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral'.

Unfortunately he ends up being the corpse at every wedding and the bride at every funeral (ie. totally inappropriate).

This is my go-to-gif for every Trump eventuality, now :

By the way, for any 'Conspiracy theorists' who may be reading, that White House signing (for the space declaration) started at 3.13 PM and ended at 3.10 PM. Proof that Trump is an alien???? :gone_nuts:

D Barak's friend John Mappin, who is a major Trump supporter, has just started a YT competition for the best 'CNN meme' of 2017. He means by that 'the best video of Trump beating up the CNN news media for 'fake news'. This in a land of so-called 'FREE press'!!! So, Trump supporters are yet again targeting mainstream media in order to undermine free and fair (and truthful) media reporting. They call themselves 'The Liberty movement'...presumably to 'liberate' their viewers from the truth. And all on the day after US Independence day.

By 6th July, this video had over 60,500 views.

Here's what the YT page says:

And reporting from Trumps speech in Poland today, CNN said:

After asking the Polish prime minister whether they had that same problem with the media -- Nota bene: Recent crackdowns on the Polish media have led to the country dropping from 18th in 2015 to 54th in 2017 in the World Press Freedom Index -- Trump offered up another broadside on the American media:

"What we want to see in the United States is honest, beautiful, free, but honest press. We want to see fair press. I think it is a very important thing. We don't want fake news. And by the way, not everybody is fake news. But we don't want fake news. Bad thing, very bad for our country."

That's Trump aggressively undermining the free press while in a country that has worked to stifle media dissent in recent years. That's truly remarkable.

Trump, time and again during the first six months (or so) of his presidency, has shown that he is already a president like none other that has come before him. Today's press conference in Poland may well be the single best example of just how different Trump really is and just how committed he is to accentuating rather than downplaying those differences.

Thursdays press conference was pure Trump. And pure "modern day presidential."

You can own a piece of the former Trump Taj Mahal

The Atlantic City hotel and casino, which bears the president's name although he sold his stake in it years ago, is being liquidated after shutting its doors in October. Everything is up for grabs -- from clubhouse chandeliers to hotel room TVs.
The liquidation starts on Thursday and will continue daily until everything is sold, according to National Content Liquidators, the company that is handling the sale. All items at the on-site sale will be sold on a first-come basis, and an NCL representative told CNNMoney that buyers have to show up in person to make purchases as nothing will be sold online.

The company is selling hotel room furnishings including beds, tables, flat-screen TVs, sofas, lamps and entertainment centers, as well as casinos trappings like game tables, a Yamaha baby grand piano, shoe-shine chairs and crystal chandeliers.

NCL says a "hotel room package" -- which includes a bed, a chest of drawers, nightstands, lamps, a desk, chairs, a game table, art and a mirror -- costs $300. And they'll throw in a flat-screen TV with the package for an additional $89.

Hard Rock International, the parent company of Hard Rock Cafe, bought the Taj in March from Icahn Enterprises, the company owned by billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who said last year he "lost almost $100 million trying to save the Taj."

The Taj Mahal was built on the boardwalk in 1990 by Donald Trump. It was meant to evoke the real Taj Mahal in India, and Trump dubbed it the "eighth wonder of the world."

The luster didn't last. The casino became a money laundering concern shortly after it opened, according to an IRS settlement from 1998. Trump sold his stake in the casino in 2009, though he kept his name on it -- for a price. Trump Entertainment Resorts, the company that still owned the casino after Trump's departure, had to pay Trump for the right to use his name.

But Atlantic City fell on hard times. In 2014, Trump sued Trump Entertainment Resorts to take his name off the casino. He said in the lawsuit that Trump Resorts had allowed the Taj and its sister casino, Trump Plaza, "to fall into an utter state of disrepair," which tainted the "superior reputation" of his brand.
"We have a very high standard and they didn't meet it," Trump told CNNMoney at the time.

Trump won the lawsuit and his name came down. Taj Mahal and the Plaza went of business in 2016, joining three other casinos that closed down in Atlantic City, putting thousands of people out of work.
