EXTRA - Trading Cards by PANINI - The First Michael Jackson Memorabilia Cards

I think Panini's response was well said. And I personally agree..

@myosotis: I understand how you feel, but honestly money's always going to be involved and it's not a bad thing. It's how people make a living. I don't think we should expect Panini to be devout MJ fans who'll just give away memorabilia to the fans out of the kindness of their hearts. It's okay to make money off of it, after all they bought it. The only time money is an issue is when company's abuse the customers...like Sony was doing with the re-release after re-release. That's a good example of a company who clearly was only interested in making a few quick bucks because they know the hardcore fans would buy any MJ release regardless of whether or not they previously own those songs. But the people who made this set are MJ fans and although the company may have been interested in making a profit, I believe these guys genuinely were trying to make a high-quality product that fans can enjoy..

P.S. And yea, selling that wig is just dispicable :(..

I just came back from Target and couldn't find these cards. Weren't they supposed to have them this week?

Yes they were supposed to be this week and the new shipments arrive on Tuesday. I also checked my Target and nothing.

I took the wraping from one of the packs of cards I got from blowoutcards and scanned the barcode at one of the Target scanners. The UPC did not register in their system. This tells me one of two things. Either Target will not be getting the cards anytime soon because if they are coming soon, the UPC would already be in their system. Or the cards that will be sold at Target will have a different UPC for some reason.

According to http://mjjcollectors.com - only select Target stores get the cards and the individual packets won't have "special insert cards."

And now it has come to our attention (as of June 13th), that they plan to release the Blaster boxes, but exclusively to certain Target retail stores in the USA. It is still our understanding that these 12 pack “Blaster” boxes will NOT contain any of the special insert or numbered cards available in the 24 pack hobby boxes.

Has anybody been able to find these cards at Target yet?

I checked at 3 different Target stores and I haven't found them. I also scanned the UPC from a pack of cards and from a box of cards on one of the price checkers they weren't recognized.

They are available on ebay for a mint. I got ripped. Bought a pack, and found one for $20 less later.

The checklist for these cards is now on Panini's website. It's a lot of information we already have, but it's nice to have an official checklist.

Hi all

can someone tell me please if there is a magazine with the trading cards ? Are the cards stickers ?

thanks a lot

No, they're not stickers. They are trading cards similar to basketball and baseball collectable cards.

So has anyone seen what a Number Ones Deluxe card looks like? I've pretty much seen every type of card except that.

Nope, those are the base cards. I'm wondering about the deluxe one.

I ordered these from Amazon.com. Are they the same thing? Will they be identical cards?

They are both 'Hobby boxes' which include 24 packs each, but no they shouldn't contain the same cards since the cards are randomly assigned to the packs. However, there's obviously going to be some doubles given chance and all (There are 190 base cards and the two boxes combined are 240 cards..so atleast 50 of them will be doubles). For me, I bought one box a few weeks ago and out of 120 cards only 8 of them were doubles.

On the first box I bought there was only 1 double :)

After a very long wait, I finally got my boxes yesterday!!!!! The cards are just gorgeous, you guys won't be disapointed!

I was feeling so depressed yesterday seeing as it was the 2 year anniversary of the memorial, and Michael brought a smile to my face with these cards (I take it as a sign from him, cause it's been taking ages for these cards to get to me since I ordered them!) ...I spend a good portion of the day organizing my cards and going through them all and I felt like a kid again! Couldn't imagine a better way to spend this anniversary than to go back to my childhood, to listen to his voice while going through his legacy with each card... I love you Michael, thank you!

I picked up a case of these from a local dealer... cost a pretty good chunk of change (most folks think I'm crazy for it) but I think it'll be worth it in the end. I have one more box to open out of the 20. I've ended up with many full sets of the complete common cards (red foil) 1-190, probably half a set of the gold cards, and a good chunk of the platimun ones. There were a few of the diamond cards also, as well as a few of the Charted Albums cards - and I got lucky with this case as it had two of the threads cards in it (I was only expecting one).

Now I'm stuck trying to decide what I want to do with these. I know I'm keeping a full common set... I'll probably list the other full common sets on eBay. That's the easy part. The hard part is deciding if I want to sell the threads, diamonds, charted albums, gold and platinum cards and put that money toward another case... or just keep all these rare and uncommon ones. lol It's a big investment and I'd like to get back at least some of what I spent... and the thought of sorting another case is very tempting. *sigh* Oh the decisions! Haha!

Threads, as in Eclectic Threads, as in costume swatch cards?? If I were you there's no way I would part with them.

Well, I just call all the clothing swatches cards 'threads'... sorry if that confused anyone. lol I can't recall the exact ones I have off the top of my head, but one is from Jackson Live and one is from Televised Fashions.

Edit - I forgot I had snapped quick pictures on my phone. These are the two:

With regards to the common sets, I have 112 of them so I'm missing 78 I guess. I really want to complete the set, so I would be very interested in buying them from you for a decent price :).

(Apologies if this has been mentioned already... I need to go back and read the full thread. I jumped in late!)
There are 112 Common cards followed by the Achievements (113-132), Decades (133-162), Top Tens (163-177), and Number Ones (178-190)... (yes, I have that all memorized now after sorting so many cards. LOL)... so do you have 1 through 112? Or do you have cards from 1-190 with random ones missing? Are yours also all the red foil, or do you have some gold/platinum mixed in?

I'll be checking eBay to see how much the base red cards are going for, individually and in sets/lots. I want to sell them at a price that's fair to both me and the buyer... which is why I've been planning on going the eBay route.

Drop me a PM here so I don't forget you, or if you're on Max Jax that may even be a better way to reach me - I'm a mod there so I'm on many times a day as opposed to once every few days here.

OMFG! I only bought ONE 24 pack hobby box, which I received today. I separated the thick ones to open because those are the ones that may contain swatches. Had about 6 of those, and as I was opening each one I prayed for a swatch. I was down to the last pack, with no luck, and had given up hope. What should the last one have? A clothing swatch from a televised performance!!! Still can't believe my luck! :D

In the case I had, every box had 6 of the thicker packs and each of those packs had the thick white blank cardboard insert in it. The two boxes I had that had the swatch cards in them contained 7 of the thicker packs. So... it's a safe bet that if you buy a complete box and it has 6 thick packs, you likely don't have a swatch. If it has 7 thick packs, then you probably do. :) That's just my observation from the case I had - I don't know if that's the true trend or not though. lol

Do you still have the materials from opening them? Can you count the white blank inserts from it? I'm curious to see if what I saw in my case is substantiated by how your box was. lol
