I'm new here so I apologize if this isn't allowed, if it is in the wrong folder, or if there is already a thread for it (I didn't see one).

I'm wondering if anyone has any details on the memorial that is being planned in Gary, Indiana on Friday, July 10th. Also wondering if any of you wonderful people are planning to go? All I can find is that it is to be held at the U.S. Steel Yard at 6pm.

As for me, I live just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. I'm broke and unemployed at the moment. Times couldn't be more difficult financially, or not - emotionally. But I will sell everything I own at this point just to get to a place where I can be around others who share my grief. Trying to scrape together as much cash as possible to make it up there. No one in my "real life" understands my desire to do this, they just don't "get" how much Michael means to me. It's about a 7 hour drive. Totally worth it IMHO, but so far I haven't been able to find a lot of GOOD, reliable information about the memorial itself. Don't want to get all the way up there and find it was for nothing.

Most importantly, I want to find a way to say goodbye and pay my respects to Michael. Maybe then I can start to move on and make peace with my own grief. I'm doubtful, but hopeful.

Does anyone have info on this memorial? Is anyone here planning/hoping to go? If so, I would love to meet some of you. Not sure how I will get there yet, or even if I can absolutely make it for certain. But I am going to do my very best.

I miss you Michael. So much. I just hope you are at peace, wherever you are.

I haven't heard much info on the memorial service in Gary other than it will be on July 10th. Maybe they will give more info in the coming days.

I live in Chicago, and while I am going to try to get out to L.A. later this month to remember him on my own, I would consider going to the thing in Gary. Let me know if anyone does decide to go. I haven't really heard any details about it either, though, except for the date.

I was just going to go out there. I didn't know there was goingto be an event. Does anyone has anymore details on it?

Gary Prepares for Jackson Memorial
By Liz Thomas/Network Indiana
7/6/2009

The city of Gary is gearing up for its memorial service for Michael Jackson. The service is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the US Steel Yard baseball stadium.

Gary Mayor Rudy Clay confirms former Miss Indiana Kellee Patterson and singer Deniece Williams will both perform during the memorial.

Jackson, a Gary native, died June 25 from cardiac arrest at age 50. Clay has a standing request with Jackson's family that his body lie in state in his hometown prior to burial.

I also read something about a choir of 500 performing "We Are the World" at the memorial. Can't find that article at the moment though.

I am going.... I have heard former Miss Indiana paying tribute as well as other Gary native Denise Williams (I think her name?) who sings the classic "Let's Hear It For The Boy" will perform. The mayor has a standing offer with the Jacksons to have Michael's casket lay State-side before his burial and I have also heard rumors that there may be Jackson family members present.

I saw pics earlier on Yahoo of people lining up to go in the ballpark where the memorial is going to be. I hope i see more pics during and after the show...

i live next door but didnt go, i would have if michaels casket was there, but other than that i'll wait for him to be buried and visit. i guess i wouldnt have mind to see al sharpton speak..if he spoke? maybe theres video somewhere.
