Gaz Technical Assistance Thread

I've just clicked on that profile link and for me it's showing they are in the proud member group.

Okay, it is for me, now, as well. It must have changed over in the time frame between my message and you checking it out. Great that it's still working automatically!

Guys,

Just a heads up, there had been a member crash, and some members got deleted, unfortunately, their accounts are now gone, and I can't bring them back :(

Thier posts are still within the forum however they will need to come to us and re-register.

I don' think there is that many as most are very old accounts, but yes be on guard as we will need to sort those caught up in it.

Will be on guard...thanks for the heads-up. Did that happen when you changed servers?

I think we're getting over-run with those spammers again, too. We have the huge number of "suspicious" newbies, like last time.

Looked into it a bit more and it was the old old members who have been affected, by that I mean the original mjjf one's which some are still here, and it was only the proud member group that was affected, it wasn't the server as I've not moved yet lol, and yeah on the spammers I've had to turn off registrations again, was trying something that clearly doesn't work grrr.

Yep, I’ve seen moonstreet and chrisc affected so far. Moonstreet will probably flip! Lol.

I don't think either of them will be impressed, really, but there's nothing we can do about it.

To be fair they’ve been quite chilled out about it which is good! They have their join dates and post count amended which is all that matters. Great job Gaz

Ta Stac, gradually working through them, lots are emailing so making sure they are done as soon as they come in.

Hello Gaz,

Can you please check the Latest PM on the MJJCommunity FB page from Irfan Becirovic as he’s reporting a member and has a registration question too, thank you.

A huge fight erupted between this guy and a couple of others, in a thread in 2000 Watts, since yesterday. In the argument, there was abuse, accusations, name-calling...all kinds of wacky goings-on and also the revealing of the actual name of at least one member (possibly another). I think Irfan Becirovic (the one making the report on the Facebook page) could be the person going by the name of Jibrail - who reported posts in the thread, made by Steve001.

Upon review of the situation, I soft-deleted the thread and handed out infractions to these three members: tamnoputi, Jibrail, Steve001

I have some concerns about this member Jibrail, who seems to be a relatively new member.....I think he is going to cause a lot of discord. Others were saying he has been banned from another forum (MJNI or something like that) and they seem to know him from there.

I have my suspicions that tamnoputi and Jibrail are actually the same person, just with two accounts, which I presume is against the rules. They were speaking like the same person, interchangeably, in the thread that I deleted and I've also checked the IP address for both of them and they are identical. Maybe his registration question is to ask if he can have two accounts. Lol

They are not the same account, reason I know is the Jibrail account kept contact us about getting his account and posts approved, which just to let you know I went in the mod queue and there was like over 50 waiting from him and various other members, need to keep on top of that guys ;)

Anyway looks like you have handled it.

Really? I check the mod queue daily and I've only found up to 10 posts max on there. I'm accessing it through settings>moderated posts/threads. Is that the right way to do it?

Why do the two accounts have the same IP address then?

Regardless I intend to keep my eye on Jibrail....I have a feeling he's going to cause a mess in 2000 Watts.

So do I. There's never anything much in my mod queue, so either Stacey is handling it, or else my queue is broken.

Speaking of things being broken....I started a new picture/discussion thread for Paris, because the original one just kept loading a blank page at the very end of it. (I closed it and unstuck it, when I started the new thread). Now the new thread is doing the same thing!! I have no idea why that is happening and why it's only happening in that one part of the site (2300 Jackson Street). All the other threads seem to be loading correctly, as far as I can tell.

Guys, just to let you know, I have opened up the registrations again, this time adding a human verification setting, that being a question which is simply 'How many Grammys did MJ win for Thriller' hopefully the bots are not going to be able to answer that as it is something they won't know or be set in their systems to do, if they do get through this I can then make the question even harder.

Keep an eye, lemme know if you see the spam bots ramp up again.

Looks like it has worked, if anyone asks you the answer it's 8, not eight ;)

Is anyone else struggling to get into sneha’s sad news thread in the news and discussion forum? My browser says there are too many redirects so it can’t be opened.

I have a feeling it’s to do with the emojis in the title, I’ve tried to edit the title but I can’t do it without getting into the thread which I can’t do. I’m on an iPhone currently so hopefully more luck on a desktop.

I had to delete it as there is no way of editing it without going into it which we know we can't.

I'll contact the member and let them know.

Ahh I've just seen on their profile as it gave a bit of the content that it was about the India flooding, so needs to be deleted anyway.

Gaz,

Post #257 (the last post) in the Prince Jackson thread in 2300 Jackson Street (it has an an embedded video from ET Online in it)....it seems to have screwed the thread up.

There's no way to reply to the thread, now, as all the usual reply/quote functions do not appear after that last post. The Inline moderation isn't working either.....I tried to select that post and delete it, but it won't allow me to.

I think this is the same kind of thing that kept breaking the Paris picture thread.....certain videos or attachments, maybe???

I sorted it, if you go to the posters profile then select 'view forum posts' a list will come up of all thier posts' tick the little box the one in question then in moderation tools at the bottom right delete as usual, when we have these kinds of post rather than soft delete physically remove it. -[Gaz]

I'm not sure if you've seen this query, Gaz. Something about being unable to get the site to work on an android mobile, when using Wi-Fi?

http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/t...n-using-wifi?p=4230938&viewfull=1#post4230938

I think the answer to this is pretty obvious as I am sure you will agree, The site is on a public IP gateway, the only instance of loading issues is with the server, thus if it loads for me and you then its working perfectly, individual issues whether wifi, ethernet or mobile devices are all issues locally, ie their own supplier.

So, Gaz, have you now moved the forum to the smaller server that you mentioned? I have noticed that the loading times are definitely slower and a few members have mentioned the forum being slow as well.

Also, Google Chrome tells me that the site is now "Not Secure" - the warning message tells me not to share any of my personal information as it could be stolen by attackers. I just wanted to let you know, because members might be seeing the same thing and could get spooked about visiting?? I assume that you'd be concerned about vulnerability of the site, in general??

Here's the blurb about what Not Secure means:

We suggest that you don't enter any private or personal information on this page. If possible, don't use the site.

Not secure: Proceed with caution. Something is severely wrong with the privacy of this site’s connection. Someone might be able to see the information you send or get through this site.

You might see a 'Login not secure' or 'Payment not secure' message.

I've not moved it lol, load times seems to be ok my end, also not seen anyone else mention it which if it's site-wide they generally do.

The 'Not Secure' is something chrome has recently added to their browsers flagging up sites that are not 'https' MJJC has never been https as we don't take personal information or online payments through the site which would need to have https, Google is just being an ass and pretty much blanket labeling anyone who does not have https as 'not secure' this doesn't mean that the site is not secure, it just means 'if' we were doing things like taking personal data or taking online payments we should be getting an https URL implemented to the site, I may look into getting it anyway in the future, but you can advise its bollocks about u being 'not secure' per say.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Expect a server move at the end of the month guys.
