I sent 5 donators over from youtube
and notice their name have been posted
Its like pulling teeth though to get MJ's
Fans to help fund this star -

WHY ????

Perhaps they question the merit of this star. I actually think the star is a good idea, but I'm not sure about the credentials of the company running this thing. I want to believe in it, but I need more convincing. Perhaps other fans are feeling this way. So far, there are about half a dozen of these stars on the sidewalk outside the MGM Grand and NYNY, with names on them that no-one recognises. The sidewalk stars are ignored. If you ask the employees of those casinos about the 'Las Vegas Walk of Stars' they have no idea what you're talking about - even though it's right outside their door!

As I said, I want to believe in this, and believe it is a worthwhile thing, but I need more convincing. The company that creates these stars doesn't seem to be achieving much, or have much prestige/merit.

Please convince me that I'm wrong, and I'll gladly donate...

For example, in comparison to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame (the one everyone knows):

Hollywood installs about 17 stars per year, about 10 of which are really high profile celebrities.

Las Vegas installs about 6 stars per year. Out of 23 stars total, perhaps only 3 have generally recognisable names: Liberace, Sammy Davis Jr, Siegfried & Roy. Wayne Newton also had a star, but it's no longer there (the hotel was demolished recently).

The honor is called a 'Max' (looks like a copy of an Oscar statue), and currently means nothing because there is not yet any such thing as a 'Max Award Ceremony' (the company has been trying since 1992 to establish this new award in the motion picture community and has not succeeded yet...).

So I don't understand WHAT this actually would mean to MJ, his career and his fans.

I'm sounding negative, and I don't mean to be. Perhaps MJ's star would be the catalyst for the growth of this venture. Or perhaps it would be a meaningless token...

Please... give me something to feel excited about!

By the way, I do agree that it's really unfair of them to give you a deadline to raise the money just because another person stepped in and tried to take this project away from you. That's really not cool, as it was your 'baby' from the start, and you've done all the groundwork and put the project out there.

Bloo......

THANK YOU!!! I'm glad someone see's that it is, indeed, not fair! This "person" knows us and knows how to contact us. Infact, he even owes my club partner several thousand dollars. In any event, the presentation of the star to Michael will be......"Name of fan presents a star to Michael Jackson". Its sickening really that this person always has to get his name out there in with Michael's instead of it just being about Michael. Well, if we dont meet the deadline and he is given the sponsorship you will all see for yourselves what I mean....unfortunately.

Just curious........................... Chichi........why have you been so quite? Where have you been? Its not like you to stay quite for too long? :p

Exactly.

My point is:

If this particular company has already agreed to provide a star to Michael on behalf of the fans, us, (actually from the fans because it is being done with our money so to speak) and is willing to help us and has already communicated with you Donna regarding it, then by honor and respect, they shouldn't even allow this partculiar person (who wants to be the sole provider of the star to Michael) to even have the chance to give Mike the star.

It's a matter of principle; Donna you were the FIRST one to contact the company and come forward with this idea last year were you not? If so, this individual who is so bent on being the first one to have a star shouldn't even be considered by the company. If you were there first, YOU should be given the right-away, not this other person. (I'm refraining from using the word 'fan' because they simply are not a fan.) Also, you're communicating to Ms. Bain regarding the subject, and did so near the time of the Japan visit, before this other person did is the that not true? I hope so.

I guess what I'm trying to say here, is that we all want this star to go forward, and are more than willing to provide the funds (what we can) to do so, yet as Bloo has stated, there needs to be more reason to feel that we will succeed in our venture. Have you mentioned this to Ms. Bain, about the dead-line, how does Michael feel regarding this? Have they even been in talks with the commitee?

Finally, I really don't think that if Michael knew of all our efferts going towards this star by all f hsi fans, he would simply attend a ceremony for it, knowing that it was put forth with just one individual's name on it. He would probably say, "Well, o.k., but I thought they said it was from a group of fans...why is this one person the only one being mentioned? It was a joint-effort from a series of fans, a shared project..." The man knows we all work as a team.

Bottom line, I really don't want to give my money to a commitee, who made a promise to me as a fan to allow me along with other fans, to create a fan project, and then when a better offer comes along, they take that other one instead. There shouldn't in essence even be a dead-line in order for this person to gain some favour, if it is set by them ( I hope it isn't yet is sounds as if there is). We were here first, we should at least be given the chance. If you make a promise to someone, you stick to it. Matter of principle.

Just trying to shed some personal thoughts on the subject. You Donna along with so many of us have been dreaming about making this a reality, we just need more confirmation from Michael's team, and the commitee.

Thanks. ^_^

This is absoloutly rediculous,to me this is like a customer walking in to a shop and buying an item and another customer walks in 10 minutes later and wants the exact same item which has already been sold and the shop keeper lets the other customer have the item,it just wouldnt happen!!
do you see what i am saying, you were there first!!

THANK YOU MissMoonwalker.

See this is my point. If they granted you the permission and are supporting your idea to let us fans give a star to Michael, it's US who the commitee should be supporting....not Mr./Miss. Ego.

No wonder Michael despairs of human nature somtimes, this so-called fan is doing no one a favour.

exactly but unfortunately $$ talks in Vegas. We'll see what happens but myself and Donna are going to fight until the very end, believe me! This person always gets away with this ish!! grrrr

Lets please stay on the focus of raising the money and away from the drama - MJJC is not the appropriate place to discuss it. Thank you.

Have they given the Elvis fans a deadline for THEIR fundraising? Nope! So they really can't suddenly announce one for us! Donna, you should bring up this point. They've already given you the go-ahead to raise funds. They can't just pull the plug. You already have money collected. In fact, this other fan's money should just be ADDED to the fund you've started! It's for the SAME thing!

I didn't mean to start drama Shannon, just trying to state a point.

I realize that we have a code of ethics here at MJJC, and it's only out of concern that I want to stand up for all of us who want to support this group effort. However, perhaps through the communication of e-mails we could address this topic. My apologies for making anyone feel uncomfortable. :agree:
