Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

This is from Jermaine's book. I don't know how accurate is this, but it may be one of the reasons Michael was acting a bit "different" at the O2 conference:

"When my brother took to the 'This Is It" podium to make his comeback announcement in London, I knew, watching in LA, that he was teasing 'the final curtain', but also that something wasn't quite right with him. His demeanor and lateness also caused comment in the press.

Earlier that same day Michael had learned that his dear friend and guitar player David Williams had died. He was shattered. David was an integral part of his signature sound, especially that guitar lick on 'Billie Jean'; he was one of those rare guitarists who can just lock into a groove. If Michael could hum it, David could play it. Perfectly. He was like keyboardist and musical director Brad Buxer, drummer Jonathan Moffett and audio engineer Michael Prince: my brother simply could not imagine doing a tour without him. Yet now he had to walk out on stage and announce his comeback, knowing David was gone. As ever, he was the consummate professional. He pulled himself together and put on his show face for five brave minutes: he walked out as the overexcited performer, said his piece, saluted the fans and left with a wave. However, he broke down in tears when he returned to his suite."

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

^ Yes, it's the lack of empathy that i find so telling when people talk about mj. That 05 trial was only 4 yrs previously, the most publicised in history, where his reputation was torn apart for months by being accused of the most terrible things, his home ransacked and his privacy violated, people threatening to take away his children and the fear of incarceration for a crime he didn't commit. And what does gongleware say about mj - he's lazy, and randy phillips expressing surprise that mj might be attacked by nerves when announcing his comeback. HOw can they ignore what he went through?

Great post gerryevans. I agree totally, mj was so incredibly brave.
Yes, I hate that lack of empathy. I don't know if these people lack empathy altogether, or whether it's only Michael they have no empathy for, but whatever it is, it makes me angry. It seems like he's held to this impossible standard where he has to be perfect all the time or everybody judges him very harshly. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to deal with that kind of pressure.

And that lack of empathy is so weird, too. I think everybody realises that we are all affected by our life and experiences, and somebody who has gone through something horrible might act differently from someone who has had a happy, balanced life. But when Michael is affected by everything he went through, people think it's weird. It's like he isn't allowed to be human.

I don't think we should just ignore Michael's flaws, weaknesses or mistakes. We all have our flaws and weaknesses, and we all make mistakes, that's just part of being human. Michael was no different. But I think we should always try to be compassionate, not judgmental. We don't have to always agree with him, but that's different than judging him harshly when he acts like a human being.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

Seriously, I don't believe Michael was "drunk" during the press conference , he didn't look like one, and just because Randy Philips said or wrote it doesn't mean it's a gospel.

I dislike some memebers of the Jacksons family and what they did to Miss Jackson and BBP, but honestly how dumb Friedman is to immediately blame them for leaking these emails? And since when we considered this ash***l as a source?

Flight attendant testifies in Jackson case
SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) — A flight attendant who has undercut a prosecution claim that Michael Jackson served alcohol to his accuser during a jet trip testified in the pop star's child molestation trial Wednesday that the boy was unruly and rude and started a food fight.
Cynthia Bell returned to the witness stand for a second day to testify about flying with Jackson, his accuser and members of the boy's family from Miami to Santa Barbara in February 2003.

She repeated her testimony from Tuesday that she served Jackson wine in a Diet Coke can and did not see his accuser drink from it, as the prosecution contends.

Bell also said Jackson appeared noticeably relaxed from the wine but did not appear drunk.

She said that at one point Jackson's accuser threw mashed potatoes at a sleeping doctor who was traveling with Jackson and it resulted in a food fight among many of the passengers.

"The initial flinging of mashed potatoes was not playful. Throwing mashed potatoes at a sleeping man?" she said.

The witness was called by the prosecution but her answers to questions by Deputy District Attorney Gordon Auchincloss and cross-examination by defense attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. favored Jackson.

The defendant arrived at court earlier amid screams from a few fans on the street. Jackson waved and blew a kiss to them and patted one of his aides on the top of the head. He showed no outward sign of the limited movements that have sometimes followed what he has said was a fall in the shower earlier this month.

Jackson, 46, is accused of molesting a then-13-year-old boy in February or March 2003, giving him alcohol and conspiring to hold the boy's family captive to get them to make a video rebutting a documentary in which the boy appeared with Jackson, who said he let children sleep in his bed but it was innocent and non-sexual.

On the witness stand, Bell said the boy boasted that Jackson gave him a watch.

Prosecutors contend the watch was a bribe to keep him from revealing that Jackson gave him alcohol.

"He was saying things like, 'Look at what Michael got me,' and, 'These are very expensive watches,'" she said.

"He did say, 'Michael bought this watch for me and he'll buy me anything,'" she said.

Defense attorneys contend the boy and his family were out to bilk Jackson and other celebrities.

Auchincloss asked if she knew what caused the boy to act that way.

"I have no idea," Bell said.

The prosecutor also asked if the boy's behavior changed during the flight.

She said the boy was consistently rude except when listening to music.

Under questioning by Mesereau, she said the boy's mother was aware of his rude behavior and didn't stop it.

The flight attendant also said the boy had a wide range of unreasonable complaints.

"His chicken was warm. 'I want a side of coleslaw. I don't want it on the same plate.' ... He was very demanding throughout the entire flight," she said.

Mesereau seemed to revel in questioning Bell about the boy's behavior.

"Have you told the jury every rude thing you can remember?" the defense attorney asked.

"Well, there were so many," she said, adding that the boy also complained about a lack of napkins in the lavatory.

On Tuesday, Bell said it was her idea to serve Jackson wine in soda cans and it became a routine on all his flights because "Michael Jackson is a very private drinker." She said Jackson was a nervous flier who could not stand turbulence.

I agree completely with the bold part. I want to hear randy Philips's response, what made him wrote that in his email. But in This Is It extra footage I think, randy Philips particularly commented on that announcement day, he said Michael was very nervous on that day because he had been off the stage for so long and Michael didn't know what kind of reactions he was going to get. I remember randy philips said he understood how Michael felt.

In the announcement I see a shy man hiding behind hair and sunglasses, not knowing what the reception would be.
He could have had a rehearsed speech he knew by heart but became overwhelmed by the fans´reception and lost the words he had planned to say.
I think it´s a response to the fans love that he said he would performs the songs fans wanted.
When he talks he does not slur

I read somewhere that Michael told a friend that fans were totally crazy in London at the announcement so he noticed that.

[h=1]Revealing portrait of how AEG really does things[/h] By Mark Lacter | September 4, 2012 10:33 AM

Ruthless. Duplicitous. Corrupt. Scuzzy. Any of those words would describe the manner in which Anschutz Entertainment Group handled preparations for Michael Jackson's 50-show concert tour. Emails uncovered by LAT reporter Harriet Ryan show that AEG executives were aware of Jackson's screwed-up state, and yet were determined to proceed with the tour. Even after the star's overdose, AEG promoter Randy Philips wrote to a colleague: "Michael's death is a terrible tragedy, but life must go on. AEG will make a fortune from merch sales, ticket retention, the touring exhibition and the film/dvd." Yes, this is the same AEG that the mayor and most members of the City Council are in bed with. I'd advise a second look. Here's how Ryan opened her Sunday story:

The scene in Michael Jackson's London hotel suite left Randy Phillips in a panic. Phillips was one of the world's most powerful music promoters and used to rock 'n' roll chaos, but the star's condition still floored him. "MJ is locked in his room drunk and despondent," Phillips said in an email to his boss at Anschutz Entertainment Group, the Los Angeles company staking a fortune on the singer. "I [am] trying to sober him up." Across the Atlantic, where it was still early morning, AEG President Tim Leiweke read the message and fired back on his BlackBerry: "Are you kidding me?" "I screamed at him so loud the walls are shaking," Phillips told him. "He is an emotionally paralyzed mess riddled with self loathing and doubt now that it is show time."
Insurers trying to nullify a $17.5-million policy on the tour say AEG misled them about Jackson's health and readiness to perform. Jackson's heirs accuse AEG of pressuring the pop star to proceed with the concerts despite indications that he couldn't handle it. Lawyers for AEG deny any wrongdoing, but these emails are killers. More from the Times:
Publicly, AEG projected confidence. "The man is very sane, the man is very focused, the man is very healthy," Leiweke assured a music industry symposium the day before the news conference. Jackson made it to London, but according to emails Phillips sent to Leiweke, the star was intoxicated and refused to leave his suite. In the end, the emails show, Phillips and Jackson's manager had to dress him. "He is scared to death," Phillips wrote to Leiweke. In an interview, AEG's attorney Putnam suggested Phillips had exaggerated in his emails and said Jackson's behavior appeared to be a case of "nerves." Jackson arrived 90 minutes late for the news conference and his brief comments struck some of the 350 reporters gathered as disjointed and strange. Still, fan enthusiasm was undeniable: Demand for an initial 10 shows crashed Ticketmaster's servers.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

I am moving away from this tread. Thanks for anyone who understands my feelings.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

what bothers me is the idea that Michael can say something, and people expect him to stick to it, depending on what he said. To me, he certainly didn't want to tour after 2003 as he stated in PHM before the camera people pressured him on video, to change his statement. If a person says something, that sounds contrary to what they were generally saying most of their life, that doesn't mean the former is not true. I know there are people out there who can be crowded by a lot of people, coming at them from many directions, telling them what to do, and that person could agree with them, just to get them off their back, but in reality, that person would want to be given a mulligan. For the same reason that a person should have a lawyer in court, or they shouldn't say something on the grounds it may 'incriminate them', or they may plead the fifth in court, If Michael made a statement saying he wanted only ten concerts, that should have been respected by AEG or anybody he worked with. He should have been given a mulligan, if he said otherwise. The idea that him not touring means he doesn't love the fans, is way off base..let alone.. all the other stuff MJ went through. This is just a general statement i wanted to make about the subject of him and touring, in general, for this thread, and others relating to this subject matter, that i have seen over the years. For all those who accuse of him being seen as not human..it seems to me, one of the most human things about him, was that he had a limit to how much concert performing, in life, he was to do. To not see it that way, to me, is to not see him as human. He wasn't a non human projection that should have been treated as a non stop performer at just anyone's beckon call...yet...he was treated like that projection.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

I don't think Michael looked drunk. Nervous yes. Maybe scared but drunk? I don't think so. He didn't slur his words or stumble or anything like that. I am sure he probably had some anxiety to announce these concerts and wondering how he would be received. The last few years it looked to me that everybody was against Michael. That's how it felt to me as a fan. I can't imagine how Michael felt. The trial especially hurt him and his spirit. It's normal to have doubts and not be as confident as you used to be. But I think before he died that he had that confidence back. If the family leaked this I wouldn't be surprised at all anymore.

I am sure Michael was excited but probably the night before or something you never know he had second thoughts if he could do it, if people wanted to see him, if the tickets would sell etc. That happens to people all the time with things. Michael was human.

Katherine and family are blaming AEG but where were they? Katherine was in touch with MJ wasn't she? she even attended a meeting with MJ, Joe and Randy Phillips in May 2009 didn't she? was she concerned about MJ's mental state and health? did MJ look way too thin and frail to his mother? I think Katherine needs to look in the mirror and ask herself what did she do to help MJ

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

Another thing that bothers me is that the insurance are trying to have the insurance policy voided when, in my opinion, they should have done some checking around to make sure that they knew everything they needed to know before giving their approval. AEG might not look good right now. But to me, the insurance company is partly to blame for this court mess because they could have stopped their part in this disaster from the beginning before it even started meaning that they should not have signed off on the deal until they had all the hard facts. They should have asked for Michael's medical records and gotten doctor statements and anything else they needed before any insurance contract got signed. it sounds to me like they are claiming that they knew absolutely nothing at all. But they could made an effort to find these things out long before this mess ended up going to court, in my opinion.

Michael Jackson: AEG’s Lawyers File for Monetary, Evidentiary Sanctions Against Jackson Family

09/04/12 8:22pmRoger Friedman0

Exclusive: as I told you it would happen AEG Live has filed two motions in Los Angeles Superior Court against the family of Michael Jackson. The motions are a response to the leaking of emails in the Jackson family’s wrongful death suit against AEG to the Los Angeles Times. AEG wants monetary sanctions and they want to make sure everything concerning Michael Jackson’s health and other personal information is sealed.

There had been a protective order prior to this, blocking any release of information that AEG had turned over to the Jackson side during the case. Now that that’s been violated, AEG wants the court to fine the Jacksons at least $50,000 and to investigate how it happened. They also want everything sealed including testimony from Kenny Ortega, producer of the “This Is It” concerts. The court date for hearing both motions is October 24th.

In addition to monetary sanctions, AEG wants evidentiary sanctions, too. They’re asking the court to prevent the Jacksons from using the leaked emails as evidence in the future–that they’re essentially tainted. If the judge rules in AEG’s favor, the Jacksons would essentially have done themselves in.

On Sunday, September 2, 2012, the Los Angeles Times published a misleading and inaccurate article about AEG’s supposed role in Michael Jackson’s life and death. This article was based on an incomplete set of highly confidential documents leaked to the press despite the fact that a court had ordered that they not be disclosed. As such, the documents were taken horrendously out of context and were calculated to be as damaging to AEG and as misleading as possible.

This is from AEG:

“AEG believes the unequivocal evidence shows that Katherine Jackson and her attorneys leaked these documents to the press. The documents released to the press were given to Mrs. Jackson and her attorneys—and to no one else—confidentially in discovery and subject to a court order. Accordingly, AEG has today filed a motion for sanctions against Mrs. Jackson and her counsel for this unlawful leak.

AEG was asked to comment on the article and to provide documents in its defense that would tell a different and more complete story. AEG, however, was unwilling to violate the court’s order in its defense. Many of the documents and other sources that support AEG’s position had also been designated as confidential by third-party witnesses in Katherine Jackson’s lawsuit against AEG. These witnesses trusted that their materials had been provided in confidence, that their confidentiality would be respected, and that only the court could order the materials’ release. AEG could not and would not violate those witnesses’ rights by turning their documents over to the press without their permission.

Even without those documents, however, the story as written shows that Katherine Jackson’s claims against AEG are simply not true. The story acknowledges, for instance, that Dr. Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson’s long-term physician, and that it was Michael Jackson who demanded to bring him on tour. The story also acknowledges that no agreement with Dr. Murray was ever signed, and that Dr. Murray was never paid by AEG.

The story also acknowledges, albeit obliquely, that even after Michael Jackson appeared ill on June 19, 2012, both Dr. Murray and Michael Jackson himself repeatedly insisted that Michael Jackson was fine, healthy, and eager to perform the concerts. And again, as the story acknowledges and the film This Is It demonstrated, Michael Jackson backed up that claim by performing brilliantly at the next two rehearsals. AEG could not, and did not, cancel its agreement with Mr. Jackson, a respected performing artist who insisted he was ready and willing to perform, simply because he’d been ill one night.

Given all this, one might wonder why Mrs. Jackson or her counsel would choose to leak these documents. After all, their publication hurts her son’s memory and her grandchildren more than anyone else. Unfortunately, the reason plaintiffs chose this course is transparent—plaintiffs know they cannot win on the law and are losing control over the case. After months of discovery, plaintiffs now know what we have known all along – there is nothing to support their claims. Defendants did not hire Dr. Murray nor were they responsible for the death of Michael Jackson. In the meantime, we’ve all watched the press as the Jackson family has made ever-more-wild accusations against everyone involved in Michael Jackson’s life— except themselves.

We look forward to telling the full, complete and accurate account of what actually happened, when the materials that were unlawfully leaked to the press can be put in context and the full story can legally be told. Until that time, defendants will continue to abide by their ethical obligations and the orders of the court.”

i think michael was upset CNN news cameras were at his hotel wating for him to come out. Cnn had two guests Musto and Kieth Murphy and they were talking about Michael, kieth said MJ needed to tour because he was broke. cnn news person said who wanted to see MJ all his music was old, he was washed up no one wanted to here that old music, and she went on to say how late MJ was, he is over an hour late, and musto said he must be looking for his nose or he is taping it on. now i know michael was watching the news and heard what they was saying about him. that why he said i will be performing the songs my fans want to here.

Seems someone was in need of money. But I really don't understand why Katherine would have those docs with her.

And that's the worst way to show a motherly love.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

I can't believe that Michael was called lazy in one of the e-mails. I am curious to know who leaked these at his time, and what parts of the e-mails are not revealed. The picture painted is that Michael was a drunken, addict who was scared and psychotic, and AEG personnel were tyrants who knew Michael had psychological, drug and alcohol problems and pushed him relentlessly while using the threat of financial ruin to keep him in check. I guess we will have to see the evidence to see the truth of this nasty business.

What horrible and mean things to say.:( No wonder Michael was nervous before appearing in public.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

I looked at the press conference and Michael acted the same way he acted when fans scream their love--he bows his head, smiles, laughs, turns to the side, and says a few words unless he has something rehearsed. You can see that same behavior way before TII, for example look at his behavior when Janet gave him the award and the fans were screaming. I see no drunken behavior in that TII announcement, and I have seen many drunken people!!!

Glad AEG are going after grandma and co for sanctions. If these people could do this to their own SON/SIBLING how can they accuse AEG, who are strangers, of causing harm to Michael? Look at the harm they are causing Michael and his children. Michael Jr is right when he said Katherine is misguided, but her misguided behaviors are always at the expense of Michael or his children.

In comparison to Katherine's involvement in the belt fiasco, Mann fiasco, fake charity fiasco, her statements on Oprah and involvement of Michael's children, and her disclosing of Paris' private actions to the reporter, I see this last action and the AEG case as the most horrible of all her actions and the one that will be most devastating to his memory. At this point, my regard for Katherine and her camp is so low, that it will take a miracle to lift it up. This Is It Katherine.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

I hope they get sanctions against them. Follow the rules and agreement and stop throwing Michael under the bus. You don't do that to your family.

Re: Katherine & MJ's kids sue AEG / Trial date delayed to April 2, 2013

^^In all their actions they never cared if what they said would hurt their son/sibling's memory. Remember when Michael died they all said how well he was when they met for that party, but once they decided to sue, they suddenly changed their story and said Michael was shaky, ect. No doubt, AEG has these different remarks to cross-examine them with during trial. The painful part is that they do this to Michael to get money from AEG, when they will not get a dime. So was it worth doing this to Michael in the long run.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

I think Michael is seen more as an object to be used for money rather than a family member, so it is easy for them to treat him the way they do. Now let's see what the excuse will be--they did not leak the docs; a clerk did it; AEG leaked it themselves. I wonder how much money that person got for this betrayal.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

People wonder why Michael wanted to be around other families than his own. I don't know who leaked it but they probably don't care that they did.

Re: Katherine & MJ's kids sue AEG / Trial date delayed to April 2, 2013

The source of the leak was too obvious. The article was really damaging to MJ's memory.
Plus, this latest fiasco also reaffirm another pattern: when ever there is a good story about MJ, there is generally another one that follows up to negate it. for instance, when the MJ Estate announced to the court that MJ debts will be cleared soon, we saw Randy and Co leaking a bizarre attack on the executor to the tabloids. now with everyone focusing on bad25 and the documentary, we see another negative story in the press. This is pure sabotage.

And again, as the story acknowledges and the film This Is It demonstrated, Michael Jackson backed up that claim by performing brilliantly at the next two rehearsals.AEG could not, and did not, cancel its agreement with Mr.

Great Good to hear. :clapping: AEG isnt playing - I was appalleded that the Jackson's (whoever is resposible) would allow these emails to be leaked with the info MJ being in that condiction. (for whatever reason) This info is personal and private meant for the court proceedings only. For the most part this shenanigan back fired becausese the email didn'nt show any info implication AEG of the accusations the Jacksons claim in their suite. I think they just wanted to show AEG in a bad light to gain sympathy. All it did is show RP freaking out but at the same time it threw MJ under the bus too. That what disturbs me the most :( That they don't care about protecting Michael's image or privacy. (or his children being subjected to these things)
IM not defending AEG's treatment of Michael - but nothing so far shows they were responsible for his death.

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

Good for AEG!
Cannot understand why his own family are so quick to do anything for $ even purposefully damaging their own son / brothers image / reputation and ultimately hurting his children. I guess Michael said it best "people do anything for money".

Re: Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

So AEG and the Estate are doing everything to keep medical records, etc. sealed to the public in order to protect MJ's legacy and privacy. And there you have the clients own family who were on every tv show talking about alleged interventions, plastic surgery, drug use in total disregard to the man's private life. SMH...

Why does that family feel that everything needs to be fought out in public? Do they not realise that instead of the intended gaining of sympathy from the general public, it is doing just the opposite.

"n addition to monetary sanctions, AEG wants evidentiary sanctions, too. They’re asking the court to prevent the Jacksons from using the leaked emails as evidence in the future–that they’re essentially tainted. If the judge rules in AEG’s favor, the Jacksons would essentially have done themselves in."

Ouch, that is going to hurt K case against AEG. Yesterday I thought that the emails they leaked were the worst ones of all emails they have, so the damage to AEG would be maximum. So now if AEG gets they way and those emails are not used in the trial, K case gets even weaker. I wonder if K knows about leaked emails, and did she approve leaking them, her lawyer must have told her something?

It is sickening that someone like Roger F point out the obvious. I don't like him, but he is right. Truly sickening that they would do something like this in order get money out of AEG. If they had a strong case, they could have fought their fight in court room, not in tabloids.

I'm sorry, somebody is going to get upset, but this is what I think some of the Jacksons are

Since Michael died, I have not seen a single thing they have done for pure love for Michael. Everything they have done and do, comes with price tag and money goes to their pockets.
