"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

in a year let's meet again here to see who was right then. The Odyssey is predicted to be the highest grossing movie of the year, the Spiderman suit tease from last summer was the most watched tease of all the times. I'd be pleasantly surprised if Michael ends up outgrossing them but it's highly unlikely and frankly, the way they are managing the production of the movie factors in it.

which doesn't mean is going to be a flop. I'm positive it's still going to be in the top 5/6 grossing movies of 2026, just not in the first three.
I'm not saying I'm right, but it’s seems that you base yourself only on the popularity of CN and MJ, if we base only on that, it's almost a draw.

It remains to be seen who will make the best promotion, that's for sure. But if we rely only on popularity, Michael Jackson is very rooted in pop culture.

I think he could easily be part of the top 3 if he has good promotion, it's just my opinion I don't predict the future but I don't say it. And you too.

The global promotion for the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has officially begun and it’s already impossible to miss.
Across cinemas around the world, early promotional material for the film has started to appear, marking the first visible phase of a campaign fans have been eagerly waiting for. Movie theaters are rolling out posters and standees featuring the now-familiar official movie poster design, one that many fans have embraced enthusiastically (and yes, I am saying this ironically).
From Brazil to France, cinema foyers are beginning to display eye-catching visuals for Michael, signaling that studios and distributors are gearing up for a worldwide push. These early appearances may seem modest, but they carry significant weight: they confirm that the marketing machine is now in motion and that Michael is transitioning from long-anticipated project to imminent global event.
In Japan, the promotion goes a step further. Fans have already spotted printed flyers advertising the movie, a classic and very “Japanese” approach to film promotion that collectors and fans alike will no doubt treasure. These flyers are already making the rounds on social media, adding to the growing sense of excitement and international momentum surrounding the biopic.

It was said after teaser the real cinema poster is still coming so that is taken typical Estate without effort

Key Facts

The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the sequel to a nearly 20-year-old comedy starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, was viewed 181.5 million times in its first 24 hours online to become the most viewed comedy trailer in 15 years of tracking from data analytics firm WaveMetrix.
One-third of the trailer's total views came from Hathaway's personal social media accounts, including her official handles on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok (it didn't hurt that the trailer's release coincided with her 43rd birthday).
Two live-action Disney remakes were the second and third most-viewed previews of the year, with the teaser trailer for next year’s “Moana” and the trailer for the “Lilo & Stitch” remake that came out in May earning 161.2 million and 149.4 million views, respectively, in the first 24 hours.
The “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” teaser trailer, a Marvel reboot, was viewed 144.1 million times for the No. 4 spot and the teaser for “Toy Story 5,” which will be the first addition to the franchise in seven years, was viewed 133.6 million times in 24 hours.
Only one of the most-watched theatrical trailers of the year didn’t belong to a sequel, remake or existing IP film—”Michael,” a biopic about Michael Jackson starring his nephew, had the 8th most-viewed theatrical trailer of the year.
For streaming original trailers, the final season of Netflix hit show “Stranger Things” dominated this year’s ranking—the date announcement trailer, teaser trailer and first full length trailer hold three of the top four spots on the most-viewed list, combining for 490 million views between them.

Michael it's a teaser and not a trailer

I gotta say, this is all bullshit. Totally and utterly bullshit.

I don't even know what a date announcement trailer is, but they really seem to have manipulated you into obsessing about this stuff they're making up.

Live your life!!

Well, as often I would prefer a friendlier tone from you, as this is supposed to be a mjj community and we should honor his legacy by sharing love instead of harassment. ❤️

Thank you for this interesting overview! 😊
I gotta say, this is all bullshit.
But I agree that these figures should not be overrated. Young people who are very active in social media and hang out on screens all day (sorry for exaggerating and generalising here) are much more likely to watch a teaser / trailer within 24 hours of appearance than e.g. full time working parents. Like I only saw it on day two, which is already quick for me. But my generation might be a main target group for the movie.
So I would expect Avatar and Disney trailers to score higher, but they will not necessarily draw more of this audience to theaters.

But did this include the views are all platforms?

And do the other movies show combined the
views from all trailers?

Cause Michael had only one teaser so far.

Knowing how hostile the media is against Michael is take this list to with a grain of salt. They will try to down play the interest in Michael at all costs

This is all really interesting, especially bc it's data presented by forbes who usually give Michael a fair write-up when they are reporting on his streaming figures.

I thought this bit was really interesting - " 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' the sequel to a nearly 20-year-old comedy starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, was viewed 181.5 million times in its first 24 hours online ...One-third of the trailer's total views came from Hathaway's personal social media accounts ..."

I've said it before, Michael is at a bit of a disadvantage compared to today's pop stars / performing artists bc he's not here to oversee his own social media but has to make do with nonsense efforts from MJE (or whoever does it on their behalf). All he really has is his legacy and his magic and he's still killing it. His short teaser came in just ahead of Wicked: For Good which is amazing when you think of the year-long build-up to that thing. :)

In general, a current popular star is going to get more views than an oldies one, alive or dead. I'm pretty sure Cardi B, BTS, or Taylor Swift gets more social media traffic than Sting, U2, & Stevie Wonder. Like when the Thriller album & MTV was hot in the early 1980s, the mainstream audience wasn't checking for Al Jolson & Chubby Checker. If Mike was still alive, it's doubtful he would be posting what he's eating, being at a club/party, or political stuff on Instagram like celebrities do now.

If he did that, he would be the most followed guy on Instagram.

I realise this and, besides, this isn't what I was getting at but nvm.

Point is, the stats for Michael's teaser trailer are really good. That's what I'm pleased about :)

Michael's life was so epic and complicated that it would need several films to tell it all. You can make a 120min courtroom drama out of the 2005 case alone... I wonder why nobody greenly a project like this yet as everything there is to know about the case is out there and it is all based on facts and not rumor or gossip. This could be a massive turnaround for Michael and the Estate.

But they will go down the route of a biopic probably, in that case I have these things to add:

I think there should be careful thought into what songs are going to be included. An absolute necessity for me is "childhood".
Maybe the film would even work better as a full fledged musical, let Michael's music tell the story.

I think attention for this will be quite substantial. Absolutely nothing should be left out especially not the controversy. This is a huge opportunity for the Estate to make things right(er) again. The reach of film is so much bigger than stage musicals so this should be handled carefully and with deep respect.

If they're serious about this, at least 2 films are needed. It shouldn't be hard to greenlight this with the right marketing people will flock to the cinemas just like they did with Bohemian Rhapsody and the upcoming "Elvis" biopic.

Either way consider me hyped!
I agreed 👍

Don’t think I’ll be going to see this film. Looks really poorly done and the wardrobe is awful. Looks like a cheap clone especially the thriller jacket. No attention to detail (the white socks for Motown 25). Just lacking where Michael was perfectionist. It will just make me sad they still can’t do him justice.

Nothing will ever be as perfect* as Michael did it. I agree with the wardrobe (I am always overanalyzing most movies and TV shows) but I still think the overall feeling of the movie will be great... listening to all the songs on this big surround system and the large screen, that will for sure give me chills.

*btw there were some "mistakes" in Michael's short films, too 🙃

exactly why I’m against it. No one can replace him and seeing people try to makes me sad and reminds me he is gone.

Feel free to enjoy it! you don’t need to explain yourself. Everyone is free to like what they want - as I am to not want to see it. All love.
