the first number mean the figures of the last week. The final is the total sales according soundscan.

i don't understand how you get the numbers of the other post you made below (the "since death" figures)

especially, History is always behind Invincible in the USA each week in the comprehensive billboard chart. How do you have it before Invincible in your chart ? Thanks...

Soundscan total's; are you sure Dangerous figures are correct, I thougt Dangerous was released after Soundscan, should'nt the total be at 7 to 8 million???

The soundscan totals explain the sales for the week and the last number is the cumulative total. In the case of 'Dangerous' the sales only reflect the SE edition of Dangerous, if you combine what the original 'Dangerous's scanned which was 5,785,000 plus the SE edition of 451,262 scanned you get total copies scanned 6,236,262 copies total from November 1991 to September 6, 2009. The rest of the albums listed are the total copies scanned in the Soundscan era which begin in May 1991 for example we know that Thriller sold more than 24 million copies in the USA before the Soundscan era, since May 1991 the original version of Thriller plus the SE version released in 2001 combined with Thriller 25 released in 2008 and you have the total of 5,454,483 copies scanned in total. I hope this long explanation helps.

Yep thanks for the explanation, seems odd though that only SE of Dangerous is shown as Dangerous and all sales were after Soundscan had started!?

Top 50 Year To Date albums (UK).

5 top 50 albums at the moment. Not bad, but of course there are several big albums being released between now and Xmas so that is bound to change before the year end chart is announced. Hopefully 'The Essential' can maintain a top10 position or improve on it's current position. Finger crossed.

His question was : why dangerous is considered at 8 M sold in USA while soundscan has it at 6,2 M only...

The answer is that Soundscan didnt' give in the early 90's the real sales.

It was 20 % off !

Add 20 % of 6 M to the 6,2 M and you get 7,4 M

Dangerous is already certified 7 M in USA.

Next year it could be certified at 8 M

for more informations, ask MJDangerous on the UKmix Forum...he's an expert.

Since his death Michael Jackson had #1 album for total 113-weeks in 21-countries.
This is without the Belgium Charts.,In Belgium they have two charts. And in there MJ had #1 album for 12-weeks in Wallonia & Flanders.
Also in Japan he had #2 album for 3-consecutive weeks. If there is a chart for foreign artists he would have #1 album there too.

Jackson sales 'will top 2 million in UK by the end of the year.'

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a179447/jackson-sales-will-top-2-million-in-year.html

Michael Jackson's UK album sales in the run-up to Christmas are expected to top two million after record label Sony announced plans to release new LP This Is It.

Music retailers are reportedly expecting the album to become one of the biggest selling records of the season and believe it will renew interest in Jackson's back catalogue, according to Music Week.

"It will do phenomenally well," Play.com category manager for music Helen Marquis said. "His albums are still selling strongly, but having a new piece in the mix could have a phenomenal effect and it could reignite the catalogue."

HMV head of music Rudy Osorio added: "If you consider that hundreds of thousands of fans bought tickets to Michael's O2 shows and if you take into account the incredible lift in sales of Michael albums since his death, then you have to imagine this new release has a huge potential audience - one that could make it one of the biggest-selling albums of the Christmas period."

Jackson has so far shifted 1.55 million albums since he passed away in June. His biggest seller is The Essential, which accounts for 515,000 units sold.

Over 1.2 million Jackson singles have also been sold following his death, with 'Man In The Mirror' notching up 200,000 downloads.

Sony recently confirmed that new single 'This Is It' will be released on October 12. The album follows two weeks later and coincides with the release of the movie of the same name, which follows the late singer preparing for his planned 50-date London residency.

Does this means that MJ is the top selling artist in UK this year???

Yes, I would presume from these figures that he is the biggest selling artist in the UK this year and I don't think that'll change before the year ends...

I'm surprised King Of Pop didn't make to the top 50.

For the first time since his death, Michael Jackson does not have an album in the UK Top 40.

The Essential slips down from 38 to 53, Bad from 49 to 57, and Thriller from 58 t0 67.

53. (38) THE ESSENTIAL (Michael Jackson) 27 wks
57. (49) BAD (Michael Jackson) 138 wks
67. (58) THRILLER (Michael Jackson) 218 wks

The This Is It album very briefly peaked at No.1 on the amazon.co.uk music chart but has since fallen down sharply to No.33. At the rate this album has sold, I don't expect it to be a No.1 album

That's odd. I just checked and it's down to #60 now in the UK. In the US on the other hand the album remains firmly cemented in the Top 10, currently at #7. In Canada the album is doing even better at #4. Why is there such a huge difference?

Its not odd, in most countries the Essential is starting to drop out of the top 50. don't know where you are checking your chart places because in Canada the only albums left in top 100 are Number Ones at #53 and Thriller 25 at #100. in US Essential is #7 but only on Catalog chart. I'm sure in Comprehensive chart probably not still in top 100.

I was talking about the Amazon sales positions of This Is It The Soundtrack. I know in the music charts, Jackson's albums have fallen off the charts for the most part. They are doing better in the US.
