Miguel to Perform a Michael Jackson Tribute at Grammys

No being snubbed for AOTY over a Woman who has already won. Her record was okay, TPAB did something records now a days don't do. His album was art, it is art and will always be art. 1989 isn't art, it's a Pop Star's wet dream.

So you are frustrated by Kendrick Lamar not winning AOTY last night and you take it out on MJ and his fans. Makes sense...

PS: BTW Kendrick's performance was really great.

I know what he said, I just want to be able to be apart of a new legacy. Some people here were kids when they saw Michael win the Grammys that night. I want to be able to take part in the same thing.

No, I was stating my honest opinion. I don't give a crap about attention, I spoke my peace.

There are historical moments that are missed by everyone due to being born too late, so get over yourself. Time doesn't stop and great moments in history don't stop happening just because you want to "be a part of it". That is the most selfish, childish and (quite frankly) STUPID reason to be so eager to diminish what Mike (or anyone else) has accomplished. You don't have to witness history to appreciate it.

Sucks to be YOU since appreciating greatness has to happen in real time. Like I posted earlier, that smacks of attention whoring (and bandwagon fanship) big time.

Go have several seats...

Just watching Grammys. Taylor Swift proved that she has nothing to offer except pretty face and a nice smile. Without all the gimmicks and media propaganda she's just an average pop flick. Her performance was just bland.

I can agree with you on that. She's the poster child for Pop music.

I've never bought into Swift... to be blunt I cant even give her the "pretty face and nice smile" cuz to me she I awkward looking lol! she has no rhythm and is super dorky lol!! she makes catchy music that some love and most don't mind which puts he in a sweet spot to always be noticed.

cheesy sells

Andrew Wallenstein ?@awallenstein

Which artist got the biggest post-Grammy bump on Spotify? Michael Jackson. "She's Out of My Life" spikes 173% after Miguel rendition

LOL. Not even one of the winners?

LOL-appears Paris Jackson is the only one happy with the Grammys.
Natalie Cole's entire family blasted the Grammys for their tribute, Duncan Jones made odd remarks about Lady Gaga's tribute to his father. Lemmy fans didn't like their tribute. The Eagles fans said they should have done another song. Don Cheadle said he wanted to pull a Kanye when Taylor Swift won. Even the Lionel Richie tribute got bashed for not having enough Demi Lovato and less John Legend. The list goes on and on and on.
And poor Adele-wrong person to have sound difficulties during her performance.

(It tickled me that Lionel was flanked by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson in the audience). By the way, the Grammys are going to be repeated this weekend.

A LOT of awards were given out in the afternoon-including best pop vocal album, best R&B album, etc. So it all looks like a matter of time and NOT discrimination was the real reason.

For those who have not heard of Kendrick before the grammy news - check him out even if you're not a big rap fan.. while it can all fit in the hip-hop category some songs you can hear a lot of influence from Jazz, blues etc.. he even has a song called "poetic Justice' for those Janet fans.. has a couple songs than mention MJ too..

many tracks are different from each other so give a few a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised. he's theatrical both videos and live (on grammy awards) he's not just some dude on a mic rapping!

^ In King Kunta he says "Annie are you okay? Annie are you okay?" :p

it was a pleasent tribute but personally,
does nothing for me only michael could sing that. sorry kendrick. love ya no hate tho
nice night

Re: Spike Lee announces Off The Wall Documentary - Estate Announcement Page 66

I couldn't agree with you more. I thought it was so nice to see someone do a small segment of Michaels song. I like Miguel, and I also like D.Bowen and the group member from the Eagles. Their is enough love in my heart for them all. It was beautiful Miguel did that Michael may have been an artist he used to admire and still does.

Nice to know that such artists still exist and not just the ones like Rihanna, Pitbull & Kanye singing and rapping about drugs, f*ucking women & partying. That doesn't mean I'll start listen to him, I just don't like rap music. Maybe if he crossover like Kanye did with 808s & Heartbreak.

He has done a lot of crossover music. really. I should write down a list of a couple of songs that you can listen to when you have the time :)

I think she's very cute. And not just pretty face and nice smile. I think she's beautiful really. Also I'd take her "dorky" style over Rihanna's "whory" style any day.

But her music.. I just don't like. Although her last album did have some catchy tunes.

Sometimes if the album is really good I like to listen to it in full. So I'll give "To Pimp a Butterfly" a listen. But thanks!

You do realise Kanye raps about so much more? Right? That's an extremely uneducated and ignorant way to look at his music haha. While yes he has covered those topics (just like many influential artists over the decades), he has also tackled topics related to racism, commercialism/consumerism, slavery, religion, his relationship to fame, depression, death, social status among many others.

Hell I'm only a casual fan of Kanye so I'm probably missing other topics, but these are subjects I've seen come up not just in his music, but also discussions about his music from time to time. I mean that's like saying Michael only sings about like love and woman, which is obviously so not true.

Kendrick's latest album did crossover. It was HUGE here in the states and had staying power throughout the year while others faded after a month or two. It had people who weren't big hip hop fans loving it

and I'm so glad people are seeing Taylor Swift for what she really is LOL

You misunderstood me. I meant all of them (Pitbull is always rapping about how much money he has and where he's been and then he's just naming random places, Rihanna often sings about drugs, money, sex, parties etc. and Kanye is actually very versatile artist). Maybe I used bad examples. I'm actually kinda familiar with Kanye's discography. I know all of his singles and I listened My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in full which I liked.

Ahh. It just came across like you were saying that's all (or mostly) what those 3 sung/rapped about, so I was wondering why on earth Kanye's name was there hahaha. Don't think I'd put him with the other artists tbh.

Do you realize how selfish and ridiculous that thought of your is? Selfish because you dimished Michael's deserving accompishment in other to put Kendrick above, KL himelf showed more respect and consideration than you. And ridiculous because it's not even the expectators' achievement.

Having said that, I have nothing against Kendrick, I acknowledge based on his Grammys' performance that the guy is passionate, his lyrics were meaningful and worked hard to put a show. I just knew who he was because of that hideous Taylor Swift video, Bad Blood he rapped in that song. I'll give him a listen to his songs.

Seeing this is the topic where we're talking about the Grammy's, what photo is this tweet referring to? Saw the tweet on the sidebar on the main page.

Thank you to the fans that were paying attention with the Grammys picture that it was photoshopped. Ah well, the idea would of been nice.

I guess the photo of the chairs with name/photo cards so the celebs know where to sit. Someone edited ed sheeran with mj

Yes. I saw that on another Facebook page last night. Quotation said the "Grammys always save a seat for Michael." Lots of people commenting how sweet that was.

I have yet to watch this years Grammy's. After 2013 (I believe) I lost interest in the Grammy's after I found out what happened in 1988 with Michael, but that's just me. I don't feel like a little trophy defines someone as an entertainer or not imo. But anyway, I didn't know Miguel was supposed to be doing a tribute and I haven't heard/read anything about it. Was it good? Bad?

R&B singer and Grammy nominee Miguel paid homage to Michael Jackson at Monday’s awards with a rendition of “She’s Out Of My Life,” and his longtime stylist Jasmine Benjamin made sure he had a sartorial match: “It was our subtle nod to Michael Jackson’s incredible costumes by Michael Bush,” she says of the embellished Costume National jacket that the singer wore for the performance. “Miguel and I have been big fans of the brand for a while, and he and designer Ennio Capasa are great friends.”

For the red carpet, Benjamin styled both the singer-songwriter and his fiancée, model Nazanin Mandi. “I wanted to do an elegant look for her, with an Alexandre Vauthier skirt, La Perla bra and Oscar de la Renta tassel earrings,” says the stylist.
Meanwhile, Miguel’s bold pinstripe suit came courtesy of Donatella Versace: “She reached out and wanted to dress him this year. We decided on a suit this time — past carpets, we’ve been more untraditional, with wild Saint Laurent leather pants. But with his swagger, he owns a moment like this.” Benjamin completed the look with a pair of sleek black leather boots by Giuseppe Zanotti.
