I know what you mean but if Michael wouldn't had cared their opinion, he wouldn't had wear make up, even though we don't like it, public image/physical appearence is very important to sell and promote products.

Yes, there's truth to that but I think he mostly took in consideration his own perception about what a fitting "selling" image meant, he was a perfectionist and he wanted to look his best, but he did that according to his OWN opinion, not the public's.
