Spike Lee announces Off The Wall Documentary - Estate Announcement Page 66

Oh my god, the Triumph Tour footage was unbelievable!! I enjoyed every minute of the documentary. MJ's spirit is still alive and he's still the king. Thank you Spike lee. And now we must have a concert from the triumph tour!

I would probably buy for my archive if it was sold separately. But this stupid pricy combo (cd+dvd+chalk lol) NO

me too. Only for collecting. Thats why i probably buy the japanese version. I Want to have the blu-spec disc.

I wanted to see it before ordering but I am very pleased with it, so I ordered it today on Amazon. That concert footage was everything!

Nice doc. Again, I got goosebumps and got sad at the same time.

I simply miss his craft, his artistry and so on. Listening to music nowadays is not As exciting as it was when he ruled the world.

Wish he still was here.

I was hoping that Japanese scooter commercial would make it in, and it did :D
But I wish they did the other one too, on the roof top.
I was for sure they were gonna get into that when they did the bit about promotion/advertising.

Just seen the documentary. Honestly so moved by it. Michael's hard work ethic and talent really shined through in the entire documentary and it was amazing to see all the footage. Absolutely brilliant.

^Miles better. It's more indepth, more archivage footage (although much of it is on YT already), and it's more artisty and high-brow. It seems like the perfect fit for what you'd see on Sky Arts (If you're a UK veiwer).

Is it better than Bad 25?

I think yes. One of the reasons is that MJ has his say in it - ie. it was a very good idea IMO that Spike took audio from interviews with MJ at the time and had it playing over some of footage. That way he let MJ talk about his artistry - something that was missing from Bad 25.

Was there ever any doubt Spike would do Michael justice and make him proud? Not where I come from anyhow :D

Film Review: ‘Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall’

Spike Lee follows up 'Bad 25' with a bouncily entertaining, celeb-filled doc account of how Michael Jackson survived disco.

Nearly seven years after Michael Jackson’s premature passing, the world has probably gleaned as much as it ever will about the personal, physical and sexual curiosities of the posthumously reigning King of Pop; his enduringly influential artistry, however, remains ripe for renewed appreciation and appraisal. Leading the charge on this front is Spike Lee, who brings evidently profound personal affection and diligent research instincts to the inelegantly but self-explanatorily titled
“Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off to Wall.”

.........A duller documentarian likely wouldn’t find time for such disarming asides as Rosie Perez’s recollection of teenage fangirls wishfully speculating as to the wept-over subject of “She’s Out of My Life”; a less methodical one mightn’t trace songwriter Tom Bahler’s personal backstory to the same song, initially considered for Frank Sinatra.

Like the most engaging archivists and analysts of pop culture, Lee takes equal interest in geeky factual minutiae and more expansive, subjective extrapolations of meaning. Beneath the overriding spirit of retrospective celebration lies a still-active current of consciousness about the unstable place of black artists in history and the opportunities created in their wake: Pharrell Williams, for one, admits that he wouldn’t have the mass-market career he enjoys now if not for the fire lit by “Off the Wall.” Lee has thus far done a most persuasive job of reasserting Jackson’s importance as a musical and social trailblazer from the seamier intrigue of his celebrity; with its bookending albums now authoritatively covered, one hopes he has his sights set on the pop blockbuster of 1982’s “Thriller” for equivalent treatment.

LOL @ the She's out of my life comment. I think it's pretty safe to assume that Spike will do the Thriller documentary as well.

The links were taken down, :( I hope people upload it again.

I don't think you should worry Snow White. I bet that soon enough it will get uploaded again.

Thanks. It baffled me the main mastermind behind Bad wasn't allowed to speak and talking heads did it for him instead, I'm glad that mistake wasn't committed in this documentary.

And the live performances were pure bliss! They made me so hungry for a Triumph Tour release. APOM and MITM were great in Bad 25 as well, but this is more rare stuff and from more songs.

Why didn't the estate release either Destiny or Triumph tour with this docu too? Even though Destiny and Triumph are my favorite records from The Jacksons, those snippets of that live concert are a proof the brothers were nont needed anymore, Michael was a consummated showman.

he didn't perform with his brothers because they were "needed". he performed with them because they were a group

^Even though is more visible in the Victory tour, in 1981 the brothers began to look more Michael's backup singers and dancers rather than a group. He was the show, he didn't need them at all.

Seriously, Triumph is better than Victory based on the bad quality shows available and these recent snippets. The music sounded better and the brothers' vocals were as well.

^I agree with you on the concert quality, but absolutely disagree with you on the brothers contributions. Did you not watch the doucmentary at all? Randy was responsible for SYBDTTG.

that's what's so sad, after all these years, when people say they represent and know the facts, the truth says something altogether different

it says right there between the album sleeves when OTW was originally released in 1979, it shows that Randy Jackson helped developed the rhythm arrangement for a number of Michael's songs on the album......that information has been there from day one

AND he co-wrote Shake Your Body Down to the Ground with Michael, which stands as one of the greatest records ever made during the age of disco

Randy was a first rate musician and keyboardist and we are sitting around like the brothers meant nothing

we need to get down to the grit and gravy about all of this because the brothers have been overlooked for agees

many fans do not know that it was Marlon Jackson who helped developed the dance routines the brothers performed during those group tours, especially during the Triumph Tour w/Michael

and Jackie Jackson who was always working out then made sure the group stayed in tip top shape during that tour

if anyone has the OTW album or CD, or google it, it will show Randy's contribution to that album which still stands and always stands as the quintessential r&b/soul album of all time

there's never gonna be a release of the Triumph Tour, but if there ever was, it will show crystal clear just how much the brothers contributed to this entire experience

and even as Michael did solo tours, which his career deserved, there's no way those background dancers did a better job than his brothers did, the brothers hit those dance steps and can still hit it in their sleep

during the 2001 MSG concerts when NSYNC came on stage, and they are supposed to be the young guys, they couldn't even keep up, Marlon Jackson poppin up in the air from his knees on the ground w/out breaking stride

Damn the documentary was goood!!! Spike Lee did a great job. I love and appreciate you, Mike. I hope that this documentary attracts new fans around the world!

^^Totally agreed mate! I think there was a thread on who was the most talented Jacksons and Jackie was near the bottem, but in reality he should have be placed near the top, his songwriting top class from songs like "Your Ways" to "Touture", for me he was the second best in terms of songwriting out of the Jacksons clan.

That was great! Especially Rock With You. "I wanna rock it, rock it, rock it!!" :girl_happy:
Also, It sounds like he's saying, "I wanna put em in my the pocket." @2 :16.

And from the beginning of Don't Stop.... to about 2 minutes in is just pure fire!
Sweat flying off of him when he spins @ 45 secs.
Then, when he slowly lifts his leg up and slowly raise his pants leg....one at a time. Whew!
And that foot work..... uh-may-zing!
Hahahaa! I love it! Michael is something else!
I really enjoyed the documentary. Learned a few things too. I'm gonna watch it again in a little while.

Thank you for the clip Respect. :)
