KING OF POP (CATALOG): In its original run, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was on The Billboard 200 for 122 weeks, 37 of which were spent at No. 1.

With the re-entry of a silver anniversary edition, the rechristened "Thriller 25" (Legacy/Epic) is in its 112th week on the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart and is No. 1 on that tally for the first time.

"Thriller" debuted on The Billboard 200 the week of Dec. 25, 1982. The album made its first appearance on the catalog chart the week of Nov. 14, 1992, entering at No. 42. It didn't reach the top 10 until the week of Feb. 27, 1993, when it leapt 26-2. It remained No. 2 the following week but never equaled or surpassed that ranking until this week.

The re-entry of "Thriller" puts the classic album back on the catalog chart for the first time since the week of May 12, 2007.

A final note: on the Top Comprehensive Albums chart, where catalog titles mix with current best-sellers, "Thriller 25" debuts at No. 2, runner-up to Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" (Brushfire), which is also No. 1 on The Billboard 200. "Thriller 25" is the highest-charting catalog album in the history of the comprehensive survey.

Does that mean it has been charted like 234 WEEKS totally or what?! That's almost 10 YEARS on charts!!!!! Don't matter what charts, that's a LONG time..

I think you can't count! That's 4,5 years (4,5 x 52 = 234) and that seems kinda oddly short to me, when looking at some other albums on the charts!

Why so harsh, and why is it odd? The album was on the billboard 200 charts for an unprecedented 122 weeks, 37 of which was number 1. This is only in America, not the rest of the world. The album was selling millions per week right across America. Ask Quincy Jones if you don't believe Billboard. Quincy had a mini-breakdown because of it. 122 weeks is enough time to get all them 27 million album sales in America. Nothing odd about that at all.

Just stating the facts! Considering it's the biggest selling album of all time I think it's strange, that it only stayed on the Billboard 200 for 122 weeks!! Metallica for example has been on for over 220 weeks! Pink Floyds' Dark side of the moon for 300 (and overall a staggering 1600) weeks!

And why did it take almost 8 years, after Thriller left the Top 200 in early '85, before it resurfaced on the Top Pop Catalog charts in 1992? And it only got to #2 for like 3 weeks and that was it!?

If you look at some of the other albums on Top Pop Catalog, like Tom Petty's Greatest Hits (626 weeks), Bob Marley (900 weeks), Journey's Greatest hits (745 weeks), Queen's Greatest hits (720 weeks), Beatles' #1 (380 weeks), CCR's Greatest hits (575 weeks), Bob Seger's Greatest hits (690 weeks), Def Leppard's Vault (470 weeks) and even Tim McGraw at 370 weeks, and those are just the albums on right now... I think it's oddly strange that Thriller has just been on such a relatively short number of weeks (234).... there are quite a lot of albums that have been on for like 200 weeks!

Those albums stayed there but they NEVER sold 1 million per week. It isn't how long you are there as much as how much you sell while you are there. MJ doesn't write the billboard news so you will have to ask them what happened. But if MJ was selling 1 million per week in one small city, he must have been selling like hot cake through out the whole country. There are many people in the industry who can testify to this, not just MJ.
