The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

I still give kudos to the Thriller Era and technically Victory, for having some of the greatest outtakes easily.

Hot Street
Behind The Mask
Buffalo Bill
Dream Away
Sunset Driver
Chicago 1945
Carousel
The Toy

Then you can add on Anka tracks. It's an incredible Set of songs, to contrast a few plain songs (Trouble, Got The Hots).

Make or Brake has full usable vocals? Did Vogel rule out any nonsense LV?
That's what he said anyway... I have some doubts because he's the first person to say that.

Except you are missing the Invincible and post Invincible sessions. There are 25 more songs. Ready for release.
It would be nice to have the names of the songs.

Anyone planning to attend the event on June 21st?

John van Nest has cut several solo demos with Michael between 1979 and 1981.

I worked with Michael on many occasions...first in 1979 shortly following the release of "Off The Wall", which was recorded at my old studio, Image Recording, when it was owned by its former owner, Allen Zentz.

I then spent some time in 1980 (or 81?) with Michael recording demo's for Thriller. This was great, because it was just the two of us and whoever Michael had coming in. "John, we have Jonathan Moffit coming at 12:00, then Greg Phillinganes at 1:00...oh, and we're recording strings at 4:00!". Wow, what a great experience working so closely with him. I had him on the mic for some days recording vocals, and it was an amazing experience...he would be dancing up a storm while singing and doing all of those "grunts, oohs, ahhs" vocal sounds that would pepper his tracks. He asked me to take up the carpet so he could dance, and in between takes, he would sing other popular songs of the day just freestyle and acapella and we would talk about the music we liked.
Don’t bother if you are looking to hear new stuff

Interesting how "unknown" titles - words - are guarded like actual audio. lmao.

Not that anyone has an obligation to tell. But why even mention it ? Sad.

0% chance of completing it. The only sensical lyrics are “can’t cope with changes. What are you trying to do to me?” The rest is mumbles. But it’s great as a demo. The choir on it is phenomenal. There are two epic vocal solos on the demo from members of the choir

That's what Damien shields said before on song changes

Interesting list my friend. We could add "Make Or Break" which is complete according to Joe Vogel's memories despite contradictory information. I have doubts about "Truth About Youth" and the Christmas song regarding MJ's vocals.
Make or Break isn't complete.

"Make or Break was a song written by Michael and myself. It was never fully finished. There was a demo incomplete vocal. There is a partial lyric as well. It was the third piece of music I created using the Synclavier. I like its potential as a song." - John Barnes

You’re missing the following:
- “World of Candy” from 2003 which was confirmed by Adez to have a full vocal.
- “I Have This Dream” from c. 2005-2006 which was confirmed by Damien Shields to be fully complete and ready for release.
- “Dreamin’” from 2006 with will.i.am- full chorus vocals recorded by MJ with will.i.am rapping on verses.

Maybe this has a similar history as TMO. Bottrell wasn't aware LV were recorded by Bruce at Westlake.

When did redone say that he had a song that had enough MJ vocals to release as an MJ track? I only remember him saying that he would have to get other vocalists to finish it.
Hot Fun In The Summertime? With Mary J Blige and.... someone? I think there were a few heads involved in that one for Michael in 2010. Not sure if that's the one.

While the results are far from the finished product, RedOne, whose real name is Nadir Khayat, believes he has enough material to work on for a record, although any release would have to involve agreement with Jackson’s record label and estate.
Recalling his collaboration with Jackson, he said: “The music we were doing was good, really good…very energetic, uplifting. It’s sad that we never finished the material.
“Michael always has been focused on having hits, not having songs, so he always records a lot of songs and takes the best of them and that’s his formula which I love. We were doing good quality music and it’s never been finished.”https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/producer-redone-eyes-michael-jackson-release-959665/

I think it's possible that the song RedOne mentioned that could be released is indeed called "Dancing For Love", RedOne said on an interview not too long ago that the song is about love.

Or maybe not since "love" is such a common theme in a lot of MJ's songs lol. Could be a different song entirely.

Dancing For Love, thanks!

- “I Have This Dream” from c. 2005-2006 which was confirmed by Damien Shields to be fully complete and ready for release.
"I Have This Dream" isn't fully complete since it's missing a polished vocal from MJ but it's close enough. There is a demo vocal that could be makeshift into being put on the song but it wouldn't be up to MJ's standards.

It's actually sad just how close the song was to being completed, according to the "When the Sheikh met the King" book the song was already mixed with everyone having recorded their parts, and there were even recording sessions scheduled for MJ to record his final vocals, but since he wouldn't show up it made the track be shelved. It's as if We Are The World had been cancelled when all that was left to do was for MJ to record his parts. It's truly a waste.
"With the bulk of "I Have This Dream" recorded and mixed, the 2 Seas Studios team had nervously been waiting for Jackson's final vocal track for months. Back at the recording sessions in October Abdullah and Jackson had agreed that the icon's singing had not been up to standard. The sheikh booked one final session at Metropolis studios but Jackson failed to turn up, leaving their multimillion dollar charity record and the king of pop's comeback, in limbo."

Yeah, he says that it would be him with a few artists. So not finished. Unless he's talking about an album with other artists on. Very vague.

Iirc Damien also said that when he interviewed RedOne he mentioned that there were no complete songs and that he would need to bring in other vocalists for them to be released, so that seems to be the case. I was more so talking about the possible name of the song RedOne says it's the most complete out of his other songs.

I thought McClain was working on Hot Fun in 2013/4.

Anyway, confirmed songs that were posthumously reworked/remixed but didn't make Michael or Xscape
  • Hot Fun
  • TYLA
  • IYDLM
  • WALWTG

Did I miss any other track?

Barnes went into further detail on this song. I think it was on the MJ Cast interview. Basically, this is the one unreleased song that got away. Meaning, it was on track to have great potential, but other things came up and for whatever reason, was put on the back burner. It was the one song Barnes and MJ talked about later on, wishing they finished.

I know that Chicago 1945, Get Your Weight Off Of Me, Turning Me Off, and The Loser were at least thought about, but I don’t think they were reworked.
