The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Sorry to bug you but I also don't know about a storybook? (except for the E.T. one)
It was a project MJ worked on around 84/85. He recorded some songs for it but it never materialized and got released. I believe Buzz Kohan was involved. Matt Forger has talked about the project and working on it.

The clipping in the video is from one I posted in here a while ago. It was recorded during Thriller

I conducted my investigation with a friend on “Where is the love?” ". This article excerpt is not from 1982 but rather from early 1979.

I found the transcript of the interview from THE SMASH HITS magazine, and MJ says he is going to record this song.

MJ says he recorded it in 1979, then says he's going to record the song in 1982. So, I don't know if MJ really recorded the song...

Great find. So MJ is being quoted here, so I think it's safe to assume this song does exist.

Strange question: But is it easier to release songs in 2025 that were produced by Quincy Jones, since he is (sadly) not with us anymore?

Or are there still issues regarding unreleased content like Hot Street or Niteline? (Maybe between MJ estate and QJ estate?)

There oughta be a grace period of at least a year or two so the Estate doesn't come across as insensitive towards Quincy's family. I believe Quincy's estate either has his best interests at heart or has a different approach to things altogether. It's up to time to show us which one of these is true.

Agreed. We can only hope to get unreleased material that Quincy might've been holding on to.

I do wonder about Hayvenhurst demos Michael might've presented during Thrillers recording session. I wonder if he did as many songs for Thriller as he did for Bad at the house.

I still think it's unlikely we'll ever see the Quincy demos get released. Quincy was very much against posthumous releases so I don't doubt he has something written in his will that prevents the release of said material. Best chance we have of hearing them is if they end up leaking somehow.

Unfortunately I think you’re right. Maybe he didn’t have that written and his estate wants to profit so they green light the release of stuff he has. Bruce Swedien had his own tape vault at his home. Marcos Cabota said “there’s a lot there that fans would love” or something like that. Bruce is the gold mine as he’d have 1978-2001 material

The estate should be in possesion of them, too.
Probably, but maybe he has some stuff that the estate doesn’t. Maybe he gave them copy’s of his material. Given they have obscure dangerous era tracks that we have never heard of, I assume they have everything. For Xscape they had 24 tracks in contention and 8 released. So that leaves 16 fully completed tracks in the vault.

One question I always had was, how many of those songs have we already heard? I believe Damien Shields once said that “If You Don’t Love Me” and “I Was the Loser” were among them, which eliminates two. (I know we haven’t heard the “final” version of IWTL, but the differences are so minuscule between the two versions that I consider them to be the same.)

Very sure that theres just stuff that the estate already have.
When they're were making the Michael álbum, they get in contact with a lot of MJ producers for tapes and masters, that's how they have the Rodney, Brad Buxer and Loren stuff.
It's obviusly that they have the Bruce stuff, bc he was working with the estate on the documentaries during his lastest years.

Wasnt Chicago 1945 and Dream Away two other songs mixed for that album? And maybe Who do you know and What a lovely way to go too or maybe they counted them as mixed for the album, as the mix of Love never felt so good was from Michael but they count it as a mix for Xscape as well.

Not Dream Away, no. According to Steve's accounts, he presented the song, but refused to let them do the remix treatment.

Do you think it's possible they remixed all the Loren songs?
I have no doubt She Got It could be a great rock song.

That was Steve’s story about “Chicago 1945” from 2014 up until he played “Dream Away” for the first time. It’s possible this was the case with both, but personally I think he just got his stories mixed up. I wish someone would ask him for clarification.

Imo it's very likely that WALWTG was amongst one of the songs they considered for Xscape given how almost all of the songs that ended up on the album are songs that were previously considered for the Michael album, so there's a non-zero probability that Lovely Way was brought back up at least briefly.

Well, if you consider the fact he started remixing both songs himself in 2014, it's fair to say the Estate asked him for material and he wanted to have something ready.

The 16 remaining songs thing has always bothered me. I mean for one the Estate need permission to use some of the songs (Will I Am, Redone, Quincy tracks) so they couldn't have been up for consideration.

Next you have the LA Reid comments, him only being interested in songs "Michael sung top to bottom" which Mike clearly didn't for the first single LNFSG (clearly it was a good soundbite and nothing more)

Then you have Bryan Loren saying the Estate wasn't interested in his songs at all.

So just on that alone I believe there must be more than 16 tracks left, rather they chose from 24 tracks that LA Reid liked and narrowed down for the 8 tracks for Xscape.

If I were a betting man, I'd assume they've located more songs in that 10 years since Xscape as well

I don't care for Slave To The Rhythm but with LA Reid calling the shots, there was no way that song was not going to be included.

Isn't Hot Fun in the Summertime basically a DJ Khaled-esque track with a dozen featured artists since MJ only recorded a verse and a chorus or something like that? Yet it was still considered.

“Hot Fun” is with D’Angelo and Mary J. Blige. Apparently there’s more MJ than any of us thought at the outset (D’Angelo and Mary are apparently very brief), but I don’t have much interest in it truthfully. I’d rather hear an MJ original.

But yeah, that 16 songs argument is almost certainly a load of BS.
