Does anyone else love this group?
I LOVE them and that movie with Val Kimler as Jim was AMAZING!
Seriously who dosent love that song "People Are Strange" ^_^
They were absolute geniuses - - - whether that genius came from the effects of drugs or otherwise who knows lol. But it worked none-the-less.

Jim Morrison is a legend, i love 'Ligt my fire'

We visited his grave while we were in Paris a couple of years ago...

You know, I keep on hearing about them, but I've never heard anything by them yet. What album/songs would you recommend getting for a newbie?

I think The Doors are one of the greatest and most original rock bands of all time. I haven't listen to it for years, but I was totally fascinated by their music at the time I discovered it. I'd recommend Olivier Stone's movie to watch first, it's a good introduction to their music, Jim Morrison's charismatic persona and a magical atmosphere of 60's. And the film itself is one of my favourites.

They made many hits, most known are Light My Fire, Break On Through, People Are Strange, Alabama Song, but in my opinion the best songs are hypnotic The End, When The Music's Over, Five To One and the whole album L.A. Woman.

Well if you're interested in getting into The Doors, taste these songs and see if you like them...

Hello, I Love You (Waiting For The Sun)

Touch Me (The Soft Parade)

Roadhouse Blues (Morrison Hotel)

Riders of the Storm (LA Woman)

I've put the albums these songs are from in brackets so that if you like one of the songs below more than the others you can explore the album its from further. If you want my personally opinion of what album to start with, I would definitely recommend their self-titled debut album. If you like that then I recommend getting all their albums (Just the Morrison albums. Don't worry about any albums the Doors made after his death). It's best to get them in order, which is: The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun, Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel and LA Woman. If after getting all these albums you find yourself really loving the Doors and you want more, there's always the album An American Prayer. But just be warned that it's very... unusual, I guess. Or alternatively you can always try one of their greatest hits albums as a starting point. I'd recommend the latest greatest hits CD which is called "The Very Best of the Doors". This is the cover so you know what you're looking for:

U are so lucky! Thats the only reason id ever wanna go to Paris. I heard he wasnt really buried there tho, but i dont know how much truth there is to that.

Bob George and Rhythm81 recommended some amazing songs and albums and of course uve gotta see the movie.
Ull love them! They are definately unique and thats always good. :)

I'm not really a big fan of Jim's voice, but I like The End. But I haven't really heard any of their stuff other than the big hits and I like Jose Feliciano's cover of Light My Fire better than their version.

I love The Doors, but i hated Oliver Stone's movie. They should have called it "The Lizard King" or something... That movie is not about the band, but about Morrison and it depicts him in a one sided view. -_-

One of the best bands ever.

I'd say their debut album (The Doors) is the best. Or maybe LA Woman. Not sure.

I must be the only person in the World who finds The Doors extremely overrated there up there with AC/DC & Led Zeppelin when it comes to overrated bands, i have to admit i do like Light My Fire :p
