The lead single of Anthology was Free as a Bird and IMO Michael has LOT stronger unreleased songs than that, so there is a potential. But it will not happen overnight. A certain reputation will have to be built, and effort needs to be put into presenting Michael as a serious artist to the public: explaining his artistic evolution, explaining his artistic vision, the way he created music etc. In a world where still many people think Quincy Jones wrote his music that is much needed. (And as much as I like the Bad 25 documentary it fell short in that as well, unfortunately. It talked about Siedah Garret writing MITM more than it talked about how Michael wrote 90% of the album.) Anthology wasn't just a series of albums, it was accompanied by a series of TV documentaries and a book explaining the Beatles music, creative process, the significance of the music on the albums etc. Unfortunately so far I do not see efforts in this direction by the Estate, just to exploit him commercially. Which is sad.

The phone is not in stores yet, my guess is once they release it, they will release the commercial on tv. They will likely edit it to be shorter, either 30 seconds or 1 minute.
 
Michael's star is shining very bright right now and the commercial is doing extremely well, it is my sincere desire that we get some kind of announcement in March.
 
the phones release is in april and according to some reviews, it contains unreleased songs of mj. so... new album in April. (hopefully the single in march)

Phone release date is March (unless something changed?). I think the buyers will get full version of Slave To The Rhythm + older MJ albums (Off The Wall, Thriller...). I doubt they will get more than one unreleased song or full album.

I guess we will get more info/an announcement in March when the phone is released so they can combine the promotion for the album and the Z2.
Maybe the album will drop in April/May? If yes, it probably will get some competition from the new Lana Del Rey album (seems to be released early May).

ok so, most likely STTR would be the first single if that's the case.. and wouldn't this mean each phone sold would also mean a sale for the song/single?? If so that would be awesome!!

ive no idea how reliable that source is, but on http://www.connect.de/testbericht/sony-xperia-z2-test-2012814.html (connect.de / use google translator) they claim it would come with unreleased MJ songs. (german xperia release is in april apparently).
 
It's not an MJ phone, the Xperia Z2 is the sequal to Xperia Z.. Saying it's an MJ phone is like saying the iphone 6 will be an MJ phone.. no! it's an iphone.. They do this sometimes when a phone is out they release songs or even they've done full albums with the phone as a marketing tool..

It's smart though, cuz all the people that will buy the xperia Z2 will be introduced to a new MJ track even if they are not MJ fans! that will heighten potential sales for the album. MY question is if buying the xperia Z2 will that count as a sale for Slave to the rhythm so later when single sales are counted it would also count the # of people that bought the phone.
 
The release date hasn't been confirmed and the extent of the collaboration between mj estate and Sony xperia has not been confirmed. I saw a rumour that the phone will be released in may. We have to wait.

As somebody else said the tv advert will likely be reduced to 30 seconds. Hopefully they don't cut out the mj vocals. Had it even been confirmed that mj will be used in the tv campaign? ? Its possible that they only used him for the launch but not the whole campaign.

If the song is included with the phone, local chart rules will dictate whether sales of the phone will count toward chart positions. In the UK it's highly unlikely. Actually i would almost guarantee it won't count. I guess the same will be true in the usa.
When Jay z gave away his album with Samsung phones those sales did not count toward the chart.

That's not a competition in my opinion. She's not in the same league as MJ.
 
here's a thought, as the phone is released in april.. for the something special.. perhaps buyers of the Z2 will receive a voucher to acquire an exclusive pre release of the album? they have done this before and it would be something positive, this would count towards album sales also i imagine.
 
I'm waiting for Damien Shields article about this topic. Maybe he'll have new information. I'm sure he already knows a lot more than we do, but he's waiting for the right moment.

People needs to stay realistic!

Lana Del Rey was hugely successful in '12 - '13. And she's a current artist who can really sing & she get's a lot attention. Deserved or undeserved isn't up to us to decide.

Let me quote Wikipedia: Born to Die was also named as the third biggest selling album of 2012 on the UK iTunes Chart.[5] As of September 2013, the album has sold 3.4 million copies worldwide according to International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

Now compare 2010 Michael sales. If the new Album can manage the sales & especially the buzz/hype she created in tv, radio, charts - THEN THAT WOULD BE A HUGE SUCCESS FOR MJ with posthumous album.

That's not to say she's in the same league as MJ. She clearly isn't. Nobody is & never will be.
That's just a look at the situation we have now & here, with MJ gone.
 
Do we really have a clear idea when the phone is released? I am seeing various months here and I am thinking it's because some are confusing the Sony Xperia Z2 phone with the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet.. they may have different release dates - not only that there would be different release dates most likely depending on country..

non the less everything I've found varies between March and April, that may date IDK where that came from but considering that phones don't usually get promotion with commercials 3 months in advanced I doubt that's a date...

March/April!! pretty much marks what we expected for a while for a first single - so we could be getting album May/June (of course speculating) but does make sense.. They might as well wait to release album in June instead of May if that is an option...


I would like to see a first single March/april, second one right around album release..

So lets say
March first single
June second single
Oct third single
Feb 2015 forth single
(if a 5th single) June 2015 5th single - anniversary and gives a good time frame to get the album back in peoples mind before grammy nominations.

That would be awesome to me!!

Sony Xperia Z2 will have premiere in march(in Poland there is a info about late march), maybe next week they official announcement single and short snippet, week later give us audio on www.michaeljackson.com and last week premiere with Sony Xperia Z2 and available on Itunes ?
