The hype caused by the Biopic

Love all these great answers 🫶.

And @squirrelinthetree I am in a relatively big city and can't see any "Michaelmania" here either...only on Social Media, but there's always a lot of Michael stuff there because of my algorithm, so... 🤷😅.
Yep! My (mid sized German) city seems to be like a different glass ball, but completely void of Michelmania lol. Wanna shake my city ... 😆

What a shame for your City, and its population. 😔

Can’t you get a protest together? To make them provide internet, streaming services,TV, etc.?

Then you in can get a little glimpse of what’s going on in the test of the World. 👍

😉😂🤣🤣❤️

I’m in London. You don’t get a lot bigger than that. And according to our children, MJ is everywhere! And most of their young friends can’t stop talking about him! 💪👏👌👏👏👏

It’s also gone way beyond ‘personal algorithms’. Millions of new, young fans are posting content you can only miss if you live in the middle of a jungle that has now human contact or media.

😉👌🤣🤣🤣🤣
There was even a MJ styled flashmob yesterday in London. It's really great to see this kind love by the fans and the casual ones for him 🤗

I sort of get what you're saying. It's a feeling like, "They're just jumping on the bandwagon because it's cool right now. They're just appreciating him in a shallow way."
Secondly, perhaps it's probably also "If they really appreciated him, then why didn't they do so before this movie came out? Why didn't they give a damn before when it was 'harder' to be a fan? They're only doing it now because it's easy."

But if you think about it, hype DOES work that way. That's why the Thriller hype was so contagious and everyone wanted to be in on it.

Everyone starts somewhere. And it does seem a lot of people on social media ARE trying to understand Michael as a person.
I became a fan back in 2001 after seeing the 30th Anniversary concert on TV. I missed out on so many years but hey, I'm glad I made it here at all. 🥰

Hold up. Whilst I think it's great to welcome new people into the community yet I can't help feeling too that there should have been more support when he was going though it. That trial... Santa Maria ., anyone remember that ? And what about all that stress before in 1993 ? I'm convinced he wouldn't be laying six feet under if he had the love and the worlds support THEN as he does seem to now...

Thats cause the media were in control at that time

Michael's always had support

I agree with some of this but. People are missing a big point here:

Millions of people now gravitating towards Michael’s genius were not born/too young to remember/to young to appreciate him when he passed - including my own children.

Just look at social media for how MANY young people are loving him. Some seem to be resenting them for being young.

I don’t think anyone should be excluded - from anything - because of their age (young or old).

This is not aimed at anyone in particular but, the overall tone of this thread makes me uncomfortable 😳

And, if I’m not being to presumptuous, I think MJ would feel similar.

All said with love, of course, and just my humble opinion ❤️

Maybe I can give an example to make clear what I mean. I am not talking about people who are discovering him now because of the Biopic and are really interested in Michael as a person and his music, short films, etc.

I am talking about people who take advantage of the hype that's going on even if they don't give a ... about him.

I have seen an influencer who went to the premiere in Berlin, she bought herself an MJ outfit, said it was so cool, yada, yada, but never talked about him before and didn't mention him since, not a word. And she talks about music a lot, she has a podcast I listened to in the past.

So... for me, that's just using an event to get attention/ klicks/ you name it. And also... now, as I am writing about it, it feels weird to overthink this behaviour because for her, it was simply an event she dressed up for, so she probably just has a different view on Michael and/ or no connection to him and that's it.

It's just...I don't know, maybe I just want everyone to be as enthusiastic as I am, that's why her behaviour felt off for me. And also...if she said the truth and it was so breathtaking, why not talk about him afterwards?

Nevermind.

At least she has many followers and advertised the Biopic this way 😅.

But I hope this way it's clearer what mean. I would love to see the community grow, not talking about that.

There were always people who loved him. We always showed up wherever he went. I don't think there ever was a lack of people being there for him. I don't remember being anywhere where he was, where not a lot of people were there. And lets just not forget that many of these hype people are also young. Too young to really have been there.

I totally agree @Prometheus77 that the core fans were always there—And we don't need hyped fans- We always need new genuine fans. My point was more about the global mainstream energy. It feels like the world is giving him the flowers now that he needed when the pressure was at its worst in Santa Maria.
