I don’t know comparing with Queen is useful at this moment. That biopic was insanely big, it almost made 900 million at the box office world wide. No other biopic comes even close. Elvis’ biopic comes second at not even 300 million ( which is still a big success btw). Their popularity is still surging from that film alone and apparently their record company does everything it can to sustain it.

So who knows how much bigger MJ will explode after his biopic. It should get similar numbers to at least Elvis’ biopic and then the sky is the limit I guess

I was comparing because queen with the movie is being outstreamed by mj on youtube. even with all of the factors of more uploads, more frequent uploads, and an almost billion dollar blockbuster. he still outstreamed them on youtube. its truly amazing. the estates last new release of anything on his page is 2017 "scream" compliation and the blood on the dancefloor remix is the only "new" song released on it. so it's the only one that counts towards that albums sales. besides actually purchasing it obviously.

I am sure the mj movie will do better than elvis' tbh. There is way more interest in mj than elvis both with haters and fans alike. having some controversy actually helped michael's numbers to increased without an pr marketting from the estate. Elvis also had a musical in 2005 called all shook up that grossed 14m total. It closed due to low ticket sales according to the press at the time and elvis was more popular back then than today in my opinion. elvis also had a cique show in 2010 that again closed due to low ticket sales.

Everything about the official site is a nightmare. The 'design' (hah!) of the website is embarrassing and so old-fashioned and just - gah! As for the merch, I have no words. It's not hard to do good merch. The smallest indie band can get great merch going so the MJ Estate surely could do better? None of it makes any sense to me. I did once have a very quick look at the official Prince merch. I wouldn't say I loved what I saw but, tbf, I have no interest in Prince. But what I saw did capture the spirit of Prince quite well, I thought. There was def room for improvement but it wasn't embarrassing.

I think the thing with the merch hurts so much bc Michael was so stylish and elegant and classy and exciting and adventurous with his clothes and costumes. So to see the stuff they're selling ... ugh.

in the last 30 days Michael has had 148,906,292m views on his page. his estimated earnings for this month are $595.6k american dollars.

People don't realise how mad it is that Michael has two diamond singles in the US.

From the RIAA website, most of the artists with diamond singles are modern artists like Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, etc.

Other than Michael, classical artists with diamond singles in the US are as follows:

Elton John - Candle In The Wind (Princess Diana tribute song)
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You

With Billie Jean and Thriller going diamond, Michael is the only classical artist to have two diamond certified singles in the US. Michael also has two diamond certified albums in the US. :love:
 
In the next few years he will have 3 diamond singles with beat it included.

What's next after this though? Any other songs relatively close? What's I want you back's certification standing at?

Motown are notorious for not asking their albums and singles to be certified. A lot of Michael and Jackson 5 stuff is undercertified.

I want you Back is only certified platinum, all the way back in 1997.

Judging from it's Spotify streaming numbers I wouldn't be surprised it is close to diamond as well. I think it is the 2nd most streamed 60s song on Spotify (behind CCR's bad moon rising) or at least it was at one point.

That is incredible. Dangerous and HIStory both deserve diamond too. It doesn't even count all of the used copies that have been sold through the years.

Probably a pointless question but does anyone know why? It seems weird. Do labels have to pay for the certification? They had so many successful acts, it seems weird not to go for this.

Apparently they don't report their sales to the RIAA at all. Thats why walter yetnickof (sorry for the spelling) said in the OTW doc he didn't know how many records they sold and didn't want to sign them.

Yes I am pretty sure labels have to pay to be certified by them. Some pay to be overcertified also but :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:
 
I am in love with the positivity on this thread!! Because it's all based in hard facts and people just appreciating the unbelievable feats of Michael's career. I am so so happy reading all of this! @Nite Line and @katara you have both taught me so much about how all of this works. Your dedication to sharing these numbers and also translating what they really mean is so important. It means a lot to me and I'm sure others who read these updates.

I am SO excited at the thought of Michael having multiple Diamond albums! I want him to hit every milestone and exceed everything lol.

A weighted audio stream is a stream that is already counted towards the albums or songs total. You can't double count streams.

if you have a premium subscription your stream counts faster to one album sale. there are tiers to it according to billboard.

SEA's are calculated by adding up total song streams from an album and dividing by 1,250 for premium streams or by 3,750 for free streams.

This is why artists now put a lot of tracks on their albums. So less people have to stream to count towards a sale.
For example Madonna has 50 songs on her new album. So her die hard fans streaming the entire album 1 time through would count more towards the sales than if you only streamed 10 songs all the way though.
