The MJ Estate are close to a 50% sale of MJs catalog

I wonder if this means we'll get 4k stuff. I wonder if this will include jacksons era stuff
 
I think this is a smart move.

And I feel absolutely sure the kids have been asked for their opinion. They are old enough to want to have a say.

If the kids are OK with this, who are we to complaint?

800 million in the bank and still you own 50 % and get half of future provenue?? What's not to like.

Also, let's say your musician has many different business deals all over the place. Licenses for their image to be used, for merchandise to be created, whatever. When they die their kids and various heirs have all got to somehow manage all these different business deals not to mention they probably end up fighting each other for a bigger slice of the pie. A big lump sum now can be really easily divided up.

I'm not a business person and this is sort of a Sesame Street version of this kind of thing but you get the gist, yeah?

I like the Sesame Street version, my brain has limits, I think it is mostly hollow in my head which is why I have so many headaches, the little brain I have keeps bumping all over the place in my thick skull.
 
Hipgnosis is one of the big hitters in the business of buying up song rights. No way to know if they are the ones hoping to buy Michael's songs. They bought the song rights from Debbie Harry and Chris Stein (Blondie) in 2020. Here's a quote from the bbc.com report:

"We don't speculate on new songs. The proven hit songs that we buy have predictable and reliable income streams and a track record that goes back many years," he said. "We actively manage the songs better than they've been managed previously," he added. "We treat each song as if it was a business in its own right." That means maximising the opportunities for that song to generate income, whether in TV commercials and video games or in cover versions by new artists. Hipgnosis has repeatedly captivated the music industry by snapping up works by songwriters old and new. Earlier this week, it announced that it had acquired the worldwide royalties from more than 900 Barry Manilow songs.

Given the trend for songs to have multiple authors, the fund often does not own a song outright, but merely has a stake in it."

Yesterday I was really a bit shocked and slept not so well. But seeing some comments I can agree that this may be a well thought decision.
I also agree that this does not happen without the consent of Michael's children. Michael's children are all grown, have attorneys, and could certainly veto it in the probate court. I think such a decision needs to be approved by the probate court. That was probably the sealed application reported a few weeks ago. We have still to wait for a official statement and maybe and mor clarifacation.
 
Next is burry the Name Michael Jackson.

To this day i dont get it how this snake Branca did it to get back his hands on Michael Jackson after his death, do destroy everything. Mike didnt want him anymore near him, near his money, near his music cataloge, near his business,.... For reasons. And I wonder where all this Billions of money go?

But that is mostly co-written with the other brothers, written by them without Mike, or written by the Philadelphia International staff writers. So all of them would have to approve. The 4K has nothing to do with song publishing.
 
I’m very against the idea. That’s what Sony wants. If Sony gets the other half, then that company is dead to me. F🤬k Sony for all I care.

Branca has accompanied Michael on and off for most of his adult solo-career, but Michael has always brought him back and almost all the good deals of Michael's career have gone through Branca. You can look at every album and Michael always gives him allways special thanks, also on his last album Thriller 25 and he always put him in his will as a exexuter. I've said it before, if Michael hadn't wanted that anymore, all he had to is to file a new will and give it to court or to a family-member. It would have overturned other wills. You won't find an interview either, unlike from many other companions where Branca speaks badly or trash over Michael, even at times when he wasn't working for him, just nice words.

Exactly. And if Branca wasn't gonna be the executor, Michael, for sure, would have appointed someone else. And in all likelyhood, he wouldn't have just sprung that on someone, without talking to that person beforehand. No one ever came up and claimed that Michael talked to him/her about being executor.

I remember when Michael went on his rant in 02....I used to look all around the house like... I oughta destroy all this bs but I loved my ps2 & pcd player at the time lol. I was like... "maybe he means Sony music...I hope he means Sony music only."

It's all about placing these songs in tv ads, tv series, films, developing merchandise, that type of thing. That might mean lots of new releases, I'm not too sure about that. I'm not a business expert, lol. But most of the attention seems to be always on the existing songs bc they were already big hits back in the day, maybe they still get radio airplay, maybe they already have great streaming figures so the investors know they can keep on making more money.

I think we can only wait and see.

Whoever is interested in buying Michael's catalogue - the focus will be on his big hit songs. I can't see why it would drastically change the way MJE decides what projects they want to develop.
