Back in the day lol when Invincible was to come out sony should have do the kinda promo they are doing with thiller 25!! lol but the internet was just growing lol..ahh Invincible days..

I think in the USA invincible had much better radio promotion. I remember kissfm in California, Power 106 Hip hop station and 100.3 the beat hip hop station playing the entire album on the radio. They did that on many other r&b and hip hop stations throught the USA also

this is much better promo. People know about it. Many people didnt even know about Vince.

I don't think so. With Invincible Michael did a cd signing, a video ( and some that didn't have him in it), and a few hit singles. While it wasn't the normal promo for a Michael Jackson album, I wouldn't say less people knew about it.

millions upon millions of people bought vince. he did concerts (30th @ MSG x 2) he had music video. he did TV interviews. virgin megastore CD signing. more radio exposure. mtv vma performance. all kinds of stuff. these are all things HE did personally. for thriller 25 he hasnt done a thing with the exclusion of writting thank you's in the booklet and the NRJ awards video speech. BUT THIS IS A RE-RELEASE! He shouldnt need to do ANY promo. This isnt about massive sales. Its an anniversary.

Promo will go into the new album when it comes.

Pre release promotion was MUCH better.. But nothing much after it's release..

Invincible did get more promotion on it's 'after release'. BUT it did not get nearly as much planned, Michael had a lot planned that never went through.. Even from the beginning.

In the beginning Michael wanted Unbreakable to be it's first single with a 20 minute short film/movie, but Sony told MJ to release Rock My World first because of $$$$. (this kicked off the bad tention) that had MJ pull out on promotion that he planned to do for it.. Once Sony was screwing him over, he was not going to. (coudn't) do it all on his own.

I'm talking about SONY's hand in promotion, not MJ's.

And as far as Invincible goes, Sony dropped out of promoting it shortly after it's release.

I think sony just felt like YRMW was a better radio single then Unbreakable. Many were talking about MJ returning to his roots with the catchy melodies. They wanted to release that track 1st.

The 2nd single Butterflies was also a better radio track then Unbreakable. Especially on USA radio. r&b and hip hop stations had that song at the top of all there playlist.

I think what hurt the album was a lack of video for Butterflies and not releasing a 3rd single with a video.

All albums should have 3 to 4 videos

One thing you're all forgetting is that Thriller is legendary, so of course it would be more well-known than a new album. Sony didn't have to give this much promotion, because everyone would be talking about it, anyway.

The promotion for Invincible wasn't all that bad at the beginning, either. Yes, overall the promotion sucked, but that was mostly due to Michael and Sony fighting with each other, and Michael pulling out of promotion at the last minute.

no SONY pulled out of the promotion prematurely which got MJ MAD. Mj just didnt get pissed off for no reason.

Invincible had great promo as a ALBUM, but he SINGLES are where it all went wrong. The album sold well, very well. The promo was good for the CD.

Sony started the 2001 fued by not allowing MJ to choose his lead single and video. They wanted low budget. Tight asses. This made MJ angry, but, he went with it. Did what Sony said. YRMY video was the result. By MJ standards not his best, but still great. People DID love the video.

Then Sony went low budget on the Cry single. MJ got pissed off and refused to participate in the video. Video was boring, song failed, that was bound to happen.

Then there was the animated butterfly video concept for Butterflies which never took off, meaning the song was stuck with radio play only. No video. Restricting the songs chart capacity. Another single success gone begging.

MJ doesnt dislike SonyBMG. He disliked Mattola. Mattola is gone and Sony appears to be making up for lost time with T25, yes. Theyre doing as much as they can without MJ. Which is fair enough. MJ probably has bigger fish to fry with his children plus his NEW album.

Good post Damien, I agree. Things are back where they need to be. This time around, Michael is able to do what he wants to do with his new album and that is to take his time and perfect his art. the reason I strongly believe his new material will be back up to his standards is because he is in total control. Once again he's taking his time with carefully planning out everything, thinking things through and how he wants to present his newest works. That's what really excites me about this new era that we are in. When he's ablr to to do what he wants and how he wants it done, you can best believe it will shine through like noone has ever seen before. Mj is in a great position than he's ever been in before. Hence, he's keeping things under wraps until the timing is just right.

I do think MJ will have to accept that Sony is not going to give him 20 million just to do one video. He has to be able to make a creative video or videos on a cheaper budget.

Sony has to profit also. I think MJ wanted to do a 30 million dollar Unbreakable video. Thats way to expensive of a video when your sales are not as high as they were in the 1980s.

MJ will have to realize that and still be able to be creative with his videos. He should be able to be creative with maybe 2 million per video max.

I thought Sony did an excellent job promoting Invincible prior to it's release, because EVERYBODY knew about "You Rock My World". It's what happened after it was released that pissed Michael and his fans off. To this day, I still think it was all a part of Tommy Mottolla's plan to sabotage the Invincible album.
Ba$tard.

It's a classic legendary album @ Thriller, of course it had more promotion. MJ and Sony butted heads during the promotion of INVINCIBLE.

Invincible had waaaaaay much more promo lol. BET played the YRMW video every hour, Mj did 106 n park, he did The cd signing, interviews, MSG Concerts, videos (only 1 he appered in lol) The mtv thingy with n'sync, Posters were hung outside of bus stops, record stores, the steve harvey radio interview, and all that good stuff lol.

Invincible did sell well but with all the things mj wanted 2 do it would of done soo much better. If promo wud have kept circulation after release omg..i can only imagine

But hey we will see in the coming months

^^ all but BET playing Rock My world is ALL MJ doing it.. Were talking SONY..

Very little of that had to do with SONY promoting... BUT, It's SONY who needed to do promotion.. This is why MJ pulled out of Invincible projects too.. He knew he could not do it all himself, so he stared to protest against sony

Dang i didn't know that. MJ had to GET BET himself to play YRMW and NOT sony? Geez.

That sure is shocking and disturbing news to me too.

Hope SONY will do a hel# lot better when the new album is going to be promoted - if it is released by SONY!
