Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I seem to remember the samples that Will.i.Am was doing with Michael in the studio, when they did that interview, sounding similar to this.

This sounds like a Michael Jackson record. It's not going to sound like Thriller. This isn't the 80's anymore.

New Michael Jackson Song Backs Jeep Summer TV Campaign (Watch)
News /By Andy Gensler, New York | May 08, 2014 8:32 AM EDT
http://www.billboard.com/biz/articl...ep-summer-tv-campaign-love-never-felt-so-good

Today Epic Records and Jeep launched a global brand campaign for the car company’s Altitude Edition in which Michael Jackson’s new single “Love Never Felt So Good” is featured in four 30-second TV commercials. The campaign will air from today (May 8) and run through summer.

The track is from Jackson's second posthumous release “Xscape” (out May 13, Epic) and was co-written in 1983 by Michael Jackson in a session with Paul Anka (who played piano on the track) and Kathy Wakefield. Two new versions of the song were recorded: the one in the ad was produced by John McClain, co-executor of the Jackson estate with John Branca; and another helmed by the trio of Timbaland, J-Roc and Justin Timberlake in which JT duets with Michael debuted this week at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The campaign's origin came in late-March when Epic chairman and CEO Antonio “LA” Reid played the album for Chrysler CMO Olivier Francois. “I played him almost every song,” Reid says. “When we played 'Love Never Felt So Good' he made the connection and went ‘Bingo! This was what I was looking for!'" Francois, for his part, says that when he first heard the track he got up off the couch in the Epic offices and started dancing and hopes the ad will have the same impact on consumers.
A former music producer and publisher, Francois is credited with rejuvenating Chrysler's music branding strategy with an impressive string of ads featuring major music placements. This includes Eminem’s two-minute Super Bowl ad for Chrysler; the new Fiat spot with Sean “Ciroc" Combs at a desert party while Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” blares; and a previous ad for Jeep with Lenny Kravitz. Jackson, however, provides Francois a greater opportunity to take his work global.

Michael Jackson's Back: How L.A. Reid Planned His 'Xscape' (Cover Story)When asked how big the spend would be on the new campaign Francois wouldn’t give an exact figure but said it would be bigger than the Diddy Fiat spot. According to Kantar Media, Fiat spent $17 million on measured U.S. media in the first three months of 2014, when the still-active Diddy campaign was just starting to roll out.

Jeep also hired multicultural ad agency GlobalHue for the creative who gave the commercial a summer-y outdoor feel. One ad is shot primarily at the beach, another is more World-Cup-friendly and shows celebratory Latin American soccer fans while another focuses on basketball and features Cleveland Cavalier point guard Kyrie Irving. That campaign was co-sponsored by USA Basketball, which holds global b-ball tournaments throughout summer.

Nearly five years since Michael Jackson's unexpected passing, his brand shows little sign of flagging. Since his death on June 25, 2009, Jackson's albums have sold 12.8 million in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. His “This Is It” concert film grossed $261 million worldwide while "Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour," a partnership between the Jackson estate and Cirque du Soleil, last year became the ninth-top-grossing tour of all time with earnings of $325.1 million from 407 shows drawing nearly 3 million concertgoers. A second Cirque du Soleil show, "One," began a residency at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas last year.

Music from "[lexicon]Xscape[/lexicon]," according to Reid, will also be featured in ads by Xperia, a line smartphones and tablets by Sony, Epic’s parent company. The label chair said the ads will air outside of the U.S. He also confirmed that Pepsi, which has had a long-standing relationship with Jackson, has no immediate plans for a tie-in with this album. A video currently being filmed for the Timberlake version of “Love,” however, will feature one rather large product placement: a Jeep Altitude

You mean the sample that was played in the 2006 Access Hollywood interview? Sounded very different to me, besides, we don't know if MJ ever even recorded that song. We do know he worked on tracks like Hollywood Tonight, The Way You Love Me and Best of Joy when he passed and what the versions he left behind (more or less) sounded like.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

They should upload the songs now on youtube on the official channel to collect views.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I think MJ could have released an album like this himself - but since we will never know I just appreciate we do get this album - and the original versions!!

Xscape is the best release since MJ passed!! - TII and BAD25 was great too though...

Xscape is perfection !!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Got it last night at midnight through Itunes, but I'm getting myself a physical copy after work as well to show my support for them doing a good job on this release. Hopefully they've learned a lesson from the terrible release of "Michael" which split up the fanbase and caused emotional distress for many fans.
But anyway, Xscape is really interesting! I love the fresh new sound that Timbaland and Stargate brought in on the album, particularly DYKWYCA sounds absolutely amazing, with 8 bit video game sounding synths, and I also enjoyed Slave To The Rhythm a lot. I've only listened to the album twice so far but things that stood out in my mind was that the original versions sound a bit different from the leaked ones, probably because they might've been earlier versions? I have no clue, either way, the album sounds great, even if I'm still not used to what they did to some of the songs like Blue Gangster and Xscape but it'll grow on me for sure in time. The documentary videos weren't interesting to me though since there really is no footage of Michael in them, but it's the music that counts, and the music sounds goooood.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Whichever way you feel about the remixes you gotta admit the demos/originals are amazing. :clapping:

So obsessed with Chicago & DYKWYCA demo. Loving You is a beautiful song. Blue Gangsta is perfect in its original state. Slave - OMG, those divine vocals! Fantastic.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Ok here's my quick impressions on the deluxe edition:

Demos are wonderful. Surprisingly, not all demos are the same as you and I listened to online a few years ago. Slave to the rythym, blue gangsta, do you know where your children are, are different demos, more raw and initial. That's really nice actually. Feels like you're in the studio.

The remixes (for a lack of a better word) are just that: remixes. The big-shot producers didn't bother trying to recreate that MJ sound. They tried to enforce their own musical style on his music, and frankly it sounds bad. I wouldn't put these remixes on an MJ Single from the 90s to be honest.

LNFSG and Chicago are the exceptions here, because they were produced by someone was is not Timbarland or Jerkins or someone of that nature, it was produced by McClain if I recall correctly, and it feels right. Just like Behind The Mask felt right at home.

If I were to compare Xscape to the "Michael" album (excluding the 3 fakes ofcourse), the Michael album was more true to the original. They just polished the original demo to a level fit for a studio album. In Xscape, they tried to change MJ's vision to something totally different. Why does everything has to be a dance hit? Place with No Name was a beautiful ballad, and they turned it into a headache of synthesizers. Blue Gangsta was already complete for the love of god, yet they had to take it into a whole different direction. Same for Xscape title track. Shame on Jenkins for trying so hard to change this track, he was there in the studio with Michael producing the original.

I played DYKWYCA to my wife (not a fan) and she begged me to stop it because it gave her a headache. That's never a good sign. The demo version is so much better, and the leaked version with guitars is the best.

Still - It's worth getting just for the demo tracks along. Do NOT BUY THE STANDARD VERSION, you'll probably be disappointed as I was.

I wish the next album will be a mix of the two genres: the studio vision of "Michael" with the authenticity of "Xscape" demo tracks.

Thanks.

Now that you obviously choose to hate on the specific producers, rather than the outcome(I am not critizising you, I accept your way of doing it), then at least do it right.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

We all have to try and get this to Number 1. So if you plan on buying try and buy both the Standard and Deluxe! Let's get him Number 1.

Aaaaw heell no Blue Gangsta!!! It's oooon!!

IMHO it sounds like todays crap music. Wouldn't the voice of MJ mixed prominently I guess there'd be less excitement.

Actually I'm shocked. Why there's any need to recreate every single song? Why is Michael voice processed?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Just listened to the original version of Xscape that had been leaked previously.

Boy the last 1 minute of that song is just killer sick. There are bits where MJ singing if you want me come and get me and some adlibs too. Musically it's IMMENSE and I love that sharp snare drum.

I wished they had extended the new songs slightly with adlibs and fun stuff. Hey ho beggers can't be choosers :p

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

APWNN being a hit among the general public.

Really? Good to hear. If the general public loves it I'm OK with it, after all IMO the remix part is directed more towards them. I'm pleased with the originals - so everyone get what they want.

(And to be honest after the new version DYKWYCA even APWNN sounds amazing. :p )

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

The only minor issue i have is with the ending of the songs. Abrupt and unexpected. What happened to those long fade outs with Michael adlibing?.. Just a small, minor complaint.

Overall i love the CD. Remixes + Originals = Win

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Out of interest with some fans not liking some of the songs on Xscape which is of course fair enough but I also here fans dis-liking some songs from Invincible.....again fair enough but I never really here of people dis-liking songs from History or Dangerous? Is that because they are perfect albums?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

In many countries it is possible to buy the songs on iTunes. APWNN is behind only LNFSG.
