He is idiot to even dare to thing music today is fluenced by him and that is anything betrer than Michael Jackson. Your damn right Kanye West you are not Michael Jackson, while Michael let others praise him this fool is singing praises of himself.
Uhh, you do realise that music today
is actually influenced by Kanye... right ? His album
808s & Heartbreak has had a very significant effect on hip hop music, as you can read
here, as well as having influenced many major artists today such as, but not limited to, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd and Drake. This is just one of his albums. He's had more of a influence then you think and you can read up about it more on his main article, as well as other places on the internet. He's certainly not as influential as Michael, but music today certainly is influenced by him whether you like it or not.
Also, when exactly did he say he was better than Michael Jackson ? If you're talking about the 'glass ceiling' thing that this thread originated from, many posters in this thread have pointed out that he had been misinterpreted. If you go back a few pages, you'll see.

The latest from Kanye, full interview here as I only copied MJ part:

On advice from others & MJ comparisons:
I stay in a room in Kris Jenner’s house so I sit down with Oprah and heads of studios. I’m not gonna mention they names. Everybody got some advice for me and say like ‘Michael Jackson didn’t do it like this. But I aint Michael Jackson, I’m not just a musician. I’m a christian, revolutionary, visionary, products person.
---------------------------------
Is he seriously suggesting that Michael was just a musician, but not christian, visionary, revolutionary, products person as he describes himself? If so, he needs to have some history lessons of Michael
I think what he is trying to say is that the Head of Studios advice him to do things, claiming that "Michael Jackson didn't do it like this". Kanye then goes on to say "But I ain't Michael Jackson". I don't think Kanye was implying Michael is 'just' a musician because he has gone on in the past about how revolutionary Michael was. Hell, he's even
worked with Michael Jackson. He's actually seen the man work his magic. No doubt they had many deep conversations.
Kanye was talking about in a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel about how hard it is to break into other markets (such as the fashion industry), and often people don't take him seriously because he's just 'a rapper', nothing more than a 'musician'. That's why he says that "[Kanye is] not just a musician. I'm a christian, revolutionary, visionary, products person". I don't think he was saying Michael Jackson wasn't revolutionary or anything, when he said "I'm not just a musician", he had moved on from MJ and was now focusing on himself. In the Kimmel interview, ge goes on about "what I did in music, I wanna apply [it] to product, I wanna apply [it] to education". He's been incredibly successful in music so far, so now he wants to apply it to product, aka fashion.
I can definitely see how that can be misinterpreted it at first glance, but thinking about what he actually said, who Kanye really is as a person, his actual opinions/thoughts and what he is going through at the moment, that is what I believe he intended. Out of context, it can be misinterpreted to sound like he thinks that Michael Jackson was just nothing more than a musician, but it's quite obvious from past interviews that he thinks quite highly of MJ and his music and knows fully well that Michael was quite revolutionary.
He sorta rambles on about the struggle in this video (starts around... 1.20 ?). You'll get more of an understanding if you just watch the entire interview because it's sorta spread out over the interview.
Hell, at 2.20 he even mentions the struggle MJ went through to properly break onto MTV. The way he says "This is
MICHAEL JACKSON" shows that he obviously thinks of him in a high regard. Ultimately his point in the whole interview is about how it's a struggle to go from being a respected rapper to a respected fashion designer, and how he has to fight to do so. That's why he compares himself to MJ, because MJ also struggled and had to also fight to properly break into the music video industry and get his videos shown.

Maybe in terms of public perception he isn't respected but as fans of Michael Jackson, we all know that public perception isn't always right. Within the music industry itself, he is certainly respected.
