No. 4
Michael Jackson

Super Bowl XXVII - Dallas Cowboys 52, Buffalo Bills 17

Set list: “Jam,” Billie Jean,” Black or White,” “Heal The World.”

Michael Jackson was once a respected performer (read that sentence again, kinda crazy, huh?). Here you see him at the peak of his popularity: “Black or White” is a hit, he’s still a few months from the first allegation of child molestation, his weirdness is still considered “eccentric,” and his show is hyped as the larger-than-life production model that Super Bowl halftime shows would follow from then on.

Not only does Michael play on all this, but he delivers a performance that would make God blush. From freezing on stage for a minute and a half before singing a lyric to waving a wand at the audience to unveil drawings to singing in the middle of 3,500 children, megalomania is the unironic order of the day.

Well, I thought the ranking was bull. Number 4? That performance rocked. And MJ was once respected as a performer? So, he is not respected as a performer these days? So who took over? JT? Blah. Well, at least MJ made the list based on his performance. I wonder who was 3, 2, and 1?

Michael obviously should be number one. But they just don't ever want to give him any kind of credit. Before Michael, nobody of any importance did the Superbowl. He revolutionized that and made it the place to perform. His performance was better then anything before and better then anything since, and it drew the largest TV audience in history, over 1 billion people I think. And the telecast only reached those numbers DURING Michael's performance.

They diss Michael in this pathetic description of what was an amazing event. Anyone they put ahead doesn't deserve to be there. Michael owns the superbowl half time show and everyone knows it. I've heard other people say that Michael's was hands down the best ever, and it was. His was a happening, everyone elses is just another performance.

Was once a respected performer?

When did he become a disrespected performer?

I'm not surprised at comments like this. It's pretty sad actually.

Prince got #1:

No. 1
Prince

Super Bowl XLI - Indianapolis Colts 29, Chicago Bears 17

Set list: “We Will Rock You,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “1999,” "Baby I’m a Star," "Proud Mary," "All Along the Watchtower," "Best of You," "Purple Rain.”

By the time Super Bowl XLI rolled around, halftime shows had been living in Nipplegate’s shadow for two years. Nervous broadcasters had scheduled safe entertainment, instituted a five-second lag for performances and were terrified at the prospect of another debacle. Enter Prince... huh? The artist formerly known to sing ”Sexy M.F.,” "Sexual Suicide” and “Sexy Dancer“?

OK, it was a brave choice, but from the opening chords of “Let’s Go Crazy,” it turned out to be a great one. Prince tore up the stage, improvising on every song with big guitar solos and awesome covers of “Best of You” and “All Along the Watchtower.” It’s an inspiring performance, and his finale for "Purple Rain," where he’s standing suggestively in silhouette, stands as a great reminder you can still keep your clothes on to make a bold point (cough).
Fully deserved, if you ask me :)

Haven't seen Prince's Superbowl performance, but today I watched Michael's '93 performance, and it was fantastic. I also watched U2's Superbowl performance, which was also great. I figure U2 has to be either 2 or 3, but who else was in the top 4?

(From the ones I've seen, I put Michael's performance as No.1. :))

people are way too out of leash here... michael will always be a respected artist who ever said he still aren't?

Prince's was better than MJ's?

i love Prince but Iiiiiiiiiiiiiii dunno about that.

If Prince was over MJ's then MJ should've been a VERY close second.

Getting your tits out obviously does a lot for JJ. I dont think anyone actually rememberes anything else from the show... isn't that a bit sad that it should come 3? if its about how famous the show is, then it should be no1, if its about talent... it shouldn't be in top 10.. neither have any,

Prince's show wasn't better then Michael's. Michael's had that larger then life feel and it had an important message behind it too.

Michael had more special effects in it and he was more electrifying than most artists.... especially for tonight!!!! That was just gross to watch

this is someones opinion! it doesnt mater what people think. if they looked past there own preferences mj would be at the top. just look at the audience it brought, and the amazing preformace. nothing compares 2 it!

People aren't hating just because they don't agree, I actually preferred the Rolling Stones one second to Michael, problem i had with Prince's is that half the songs he did weren't his so if you weren't familiar with those artists songs he performed you are sitting there going WTF? at least Michael and most other artists who have done the half time shows sang their own songs, kept it recognizable, to me if the allegations hadn't happened he wouldn't be getting slammed and slighted the way he is now, when he did his show it was the greatest but because of the negative history people rewrite history and throw in lurid insinuations and it's a shame really that's jmho.

Yeah... SINCE Michael's, lol. Michael was just electrifying though. Prince's was good, it was professional, but just that, professional and in my opinion didn't have the feeling that Michael's had. One of the things that makes Michael such an awsome performer his his ability to create emotion on stage.

Come on now. You can't be serious? You didn't feel the intense emotion in Prince's performance? Especially in Purple Rain his emotions just sawed. It made me cry when I watched it. Prince performing Purple Rain in the rain, singing his heart out and weeping through his guitar. It was just beautiful. It touched me more than Michael lip syncing and recreating exact dance routines from his tour. I don't get the rave over Michael's Superbowl performance because IMO it's one of his worst performances ever.

No, I didn't feel it from Prince. He seemed like a consimet pro., and it was a good performance, but it lacked excitment and wasn't attention grabbing. Everyone I was watching with didn't even bother to look at the screen when Prince came on. It was just another half time show to them. I meant Michael created an atomosphere of excitment and and awe, which he did, more so then Prince. And when he did "Heal The World" it came across with great feeling and conviction. Most people who haven't seen every single concert of Michael's would have been phenomenally impressed and taken aback by that performance, because of the percisan and energy in his steps and how much he put in to it, it would have been new and fresh to them. Whether he was lyp-syncing or not didn't matter. He lyp-synced when he did "Motown 25" too. It didn't matter then. Michael just has a commanding precense and whatever emotion is in the song he's performing, he wears that emotion on his face and in his body. He's the king of the stage because he makes you feel and he makes you stare for fear of missing something phenomenal.

It's about how you command the stage, the expression on your face, how you interpret the song physically has as much to do with expressing emotion on stage as singing. Like I said, he didn't sing live when he did Motown 25 or his 95 MTV VMA performance and also his 88 Grammy showing, but that didn't deter the exciement or the emotiveness of the performances and nobody ever says it does. Michael just hypnotizes people and makes them stand up and take notice. He creates emotion through his presence and through his facial expressions and dancing and how he works the stage. He looks like he's living the song when he performs it.

From a general point of view, I think MJ is a better performer than Prince...blek!

Its all about attitude. Sing it like ya mean it, you know? ;)

I didn't feel anything about Prince's performance, in fact i thought he went overboard singing songs by other artists, i much prefered the 1993 Superbowl Halftime show which to me was the most sincere of all of them.

How do you sing with emotion when you're lip syncing? Michael could learn a lot from Prince's half time show.

Oh please GMAFB! Prince grew up looking up to Michael and the Jackson 5, so Michael don't need to learn **** from Prince, if anything I think you are just being petty and spiteful because someone doesn't see your pov.
