Rolling Stone gives "5 stars" for "Thriller"

I don't think Rolling Stone has the same importance it used to but I'm still shocked that they gave the album 5 stars. They usually favor rock artists and have been less than positive about Mike for years now so i'm suprised by this rating.

but this the 25 year old "Thriller album".... I mean "T25"....

Who cares? Rolling Stone is notorious for its hatred of Mike. This is 5 stars guys, and from a Rock and Roll mag. This is HUGE. I have a feeling the sales of Thriller 25 will be huge too, now. Anyone know if the sales of 25 will be tacked on to that of the original Thriller? If so, great! Not that Thriller will ever be outdone.

Oh, and unlike everyone else, I have to agree very much with the article. I think it is quite accurate. Notice they only give Mike props and put down today's "talent", as I believe they should be, in regards to their talent vs. Mike's.

Remember, this is the King. All hail the King!

:punk:

Yes it will. T25 is a RE-RELEASE. Not an original. It is the same album and if it does well......like sells at least 2 mil copies, it will finally top the Eagles as the best selling album in AMERICA!

The first ever RS review of Thriller (way back in 1982) gave the album (I think) 3 out of 5 stars and called it medicore RnB and a downgrade from Off The Wall.

Then .. after Thriller began selling like crazy .. RS did ANOTHER review of Thriller and gave it 4 or 5 stars and called it brilliant.

I don't care if Rolling Stone gives it 6 stars out of 5. Their opinion is completely non-relivent and lacks any credibility. Anyone who says that the video for "Thriller" is no good is either blind, incredibly dense, or both. I didn't even read the article. I hate that cheap rag magazine too much to get through it. And I remember one review of "She's Out Of My Life" describing Michael's vocal on it to be so good that he could make the song, which they deemed sentimental tripe, brillinat.

Just goes to show you how useless these so-called music critics' opinions are. The proof is in the sales.

I agree. This was an overall positive article for Michael, without any of the usual labeling or badmouthing or "under their breath" comments. I agree with a lot of what was said in it except I do love "For all time". It is a rock magazine though, so what can you expect? They give him a lot of credit, and it's well-deserved, so I'm not gonna complain.

Even Kanye can tell he's in over his head, so he sends "Billie Jean" out there without the bass line, which is like putting Bobby Orr on the ice without a hockey stick.

 love it

in all fairness though Rolling Stone is a rock magazine....

I love Rolling Stone and always read the mag, because I'm a lot into Rock Music. The magazine is more about politics than music these days, and even though I enjoy a lot of their articles, I never take any reviews seriously. I read them but I always make up my own mind about music. But Thriller getting 5 stars is great, I also agree about the "lame" remixes.

I think that TGIM 2008 is better than the original. I can't stand... 'Macca' (uuuugggh) ... But I can't stand Akon either so I don't like WBSS 2008.

Oh,and btw. I can't stand Rolling Stone either. They always say B.S. and they only accept Michael's work from the 80's.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

you are soooooooo right.. getting that kind of rating from Rollingstones is

H.U.G.H.E

PFFFF...like we should care. Mike could swallow Rolling Stone in one bite. They are so lame and jealous of Michael's geniality. The fact that they gave the original Thriller 4/5 just shows how dumb retards they are.

The quote about calling For All Time a mediocore ballad is further from the truth. It is a great song and would be a number 1 hit with the proper promotion

It's a nice song but there's no way it would hit #1 especially not these days. For one, it sounds dated and although I do love the song, it's just not single material. If this song were released today, it would flop.

it's your opinion:)

I don't think so. It's right on up there with Butterflies IMO. It's well produced and does not sound outdated. Put up a poll, and I betcha a majority of people would say it would hit number 1. It is better than any crap that's been released in the last 10 years.

a mediocre ballad means nothing in fact. It's the reason why I don't like reading any reviews at all. It's usually contains nothing more than their own personal opinion. If someone is so blind that they don't notice anything in a song and has no idea how to interpret and describe what's goin on in the song, they use such meaningless words with no relation to the subject, without giving any explanation. They probably even didn't try to listen it. You actually don't need to do ANYTHING to have such opinion.

What Rolling Stone should have done was put Michael on the cover of their February issue to celebrate T25. Now that would have been great.

But I don't expect RS to be too fair to Michael since it is a Rock magazine and Michael pretty much pushed Rock music to the side back in the early 80s when he burst out with OTW and Thriller. The rock community has never forgiven him for infiltrating MTV and taking over the way he did with Pop music.

rolling stones gave someone 5/5? whats going on? lol
(although it deserves it) :)

Well, its Thriller, lol. :p I doubt a few remixes on a CD that contains the originals will do any harm (besides nearly ruining the memory of those masterpieces that should never be touched :puke: Its the reason why I haven't listened to any of them to this day, and I don't plan to. lol).

Great review and I agree 95 percent lol. The exception are the last couple of lines where the - inevitable - comparison with BAD comes up, which I've always kind of preferred to Thriller. But the rest - the criticism of the original songs as well as the remixes - is spot-on .
