it's been 25 years since Michael Jackson released the world's biggest-selling album of all time, Thriller. In honor of the anniversary, Epic/Legacy Recordings is dropping a newly expanded, deluxe edition of the album. In this SOHH exclusive, some of today's biggest R&B names - Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Marsha Ambrosius - share their thoughts on the Thriller re-release.

The Thriller 25th Anniversary edition, which hits stores today (Feb. 12), features all of the songs from the original album as well as new remixes created by super-producers Kanye West, Akon and will.i.am and one unreleased track recorded during the original Thriller sessions.

"[I'm] mad that I wasn't on it," says Marsha Ambrosius, the Floetry songstress who wrote the song "Butterflies" on MJ's Invincible album. "However, good job. Thriller is like the best album of all time. Why not re-release it? I'd re-release it if it was my record and it sold 108 mil worldwide. Do it again!"

Ne-Yo, who is working on Michael Jackson's forthcoming studio album, agrees. "I think it's a good idea before he goes with the new album. He's coming up with a new one that I'm working with him on." [Watch Below]

Atlanta based songwriter, Sean "The Pen" Garrett also revealed that he has plans to work with the King of Pop. "I just met with him a month ago and we're actually going to be doing some work together."

In the meantime, the man who penned hits like Usher's "Yeah" and Beyonce's "Upgrade U" looks forward to revisiting old favorites from the Thriller album. "'Billie Jean' is one of my favorites, 'Thriller' was a great one," says Garrett. "I love Mike."

Wonderful article and great interview with Ne-Yo... I am loving my two Thriller 25 Cds I bought today and looking forward to the future celebrating the past.

I like Ne-yo.. I'd choose him over Akon or will.i.am, don;t get me wrong I like will.i.am but I think Ne-yo makes better music.

their colabs would be just awesome!... just saying

Yeah, I have favourite MJ albums not particular songs. There's too many songs to choose just one.

As for MJ working with Jamiroquai that would be amazing as i'm a massive Jamiroquai fan but thats never gonna happen, same as a Prince/MJ collaboration will never happen. But still we can all dream....

I saw it and I love, "I CAN'T! That's why they're secrets!" and "He won't LET me!" :lol: Do MJ have these people on a LEASH or something? I bet all MJ said was "Please Neyo, don't tell eeenybody what I'm do-eeng. Please, Neyo. Your word really means a lot to me"....and MJ's big azz eyes added to that...that's all that's needed to put these guys are on LOCK...:lol: MJ's sweetness can do that to ya.

Neyo was like YEAH he think it's a good idea to put out Thriller 25 before his NEW ONE....so this really is the ruffles before the STORM! Get excited ya'll ;)


I'd love for MJ to work with Jamiroquai! As well as MAROON 5.


I just soooo intrigued about how well MJ is keeping everything secret. The fact that when Neyo listed ALL the things he was working on EXCEPT Michael. I mean he didn't even mention mj's name AT ALL in his first list. The reporter had to PRY it out of him. That means 1 of 2 things:...One, that he doesn't have THAT major of a role in the album or two, he's really SERIOUS about not saying A WORD about the project. Not A WORD.

our 100,000 confirmation about new material lol but i'm glad Ne-Yo sounded assuring and i'm glad they're definitely working together.

Well its not like we needed any more confirmation. We already knew all this and anyone saying Michael isn't coming out with new material is only saying so to spite him.

I think the whole secrecy thing is actually the best way for MJ to go with his new music/projects. So I love these little not-so-revealing tidbits. One crumb at a time. :lol:

will's a Hip-Hop producer/musician while Ne-Yo's an R&B singer-songwriter. it would be good to have this sort of diversity in an album.
 
I think the new album will hit the stores for christmas :)
