I came to know that Got To Be There is NOT his firt single at all! One called Big Boy is and i think it's from 1969 and it's extremely rare to find!
so
1. Why is it that Got to Be There is know as his first single and Big Boy is barely known??
2. Anybody has this recording in high quality mp3? or know where i can find it?

Thank you very much!:D

Big boy was recorded when MJ was 8 years old and with steeltown label This was before he went to Motown.:D

^ I used to have that on vinyl and stupidly sold it once when I needed some money  it's very rare

Big Boy is the Jackson 5, Got To Be There is a Solo Single ;)

you can download it off of ares, i know because i just did. it sounds good. however the one i downloaded has horns in the intro as opposed to the one that's posted here....they both sound good though.

That song is available on the commercially released album "Pre-History", which is a collection put out by Motown around the same time "HIStory" came out. They were trying to capitalize off of Michael's solo release. It's a collection of singles recorded by the Jackson Five while they were signed to a label called Steeltown in 1967 and 1968. Some of the songs on there though aren't Jackson Five records, but actually done by a group called "The Ripples and the Waves", oft thought to be the Jackson Five, lol. But Big Boy is on there, as well as others such as "Michael the lover", "We don't have to be over 21 (to fall in love) and "You've Changed", which Michael actually re-recorded for the Jackson Fives first album with Motown. It also has some cool monolog parts and has the only recording of Joseph playing the guitar with all of them. Michael sounds incredible. For someone that young to have that kind of diction and control is unbelieveable.

The one that was posted was the original one. There was a remixed version leaked out years ago that tried to emulate "I Want You Back" with the horns and piano playing. It was actually horrendous compared to the original.

Its funny to listen to little Michael. I wonder if he actually understood a lot of the things he was singing about. (about love and all that)

I doubt it, lol. Not in a litteral way. But Michael is an emotional genius. He has an innate hold on the core of every emotion and he is able to express it. So even when he was a child, he was able to touch on that core and bring it out. It only became more intense as he grew into adulthood. He sees the truth of things and always has, even when he couldn't understand what they meant within the context of societal description, he has such a strong connection to the actual feeling.

no, he didn't ... he actually said this about that particular song (which is cute btw) in his 'Moonwalk" book
he was just singing what they wanted them to
without understanding too much... but how:eek::wub:
simply, he's genius... :D

I'll have to buy pre-history then. But my musical budget is now on vinyls of early solo albums of MJ. This month is BEN, next will be Got to Be There or some... Anyway they are on youtube the 3 Steeltown MJ records so i'll keep listening to it. Big Boy arrangements are BEAUTIFUL!! the chorus, michael's voice everything! i love that 60's sound!

I wanna hear "Jam Session". Just da title sounds hot. Probably an old skool club banger. lol. Big Boy, showcased Michael's powerful vocals as a lil boy. The Song is GREAT.

Well he was seven when his career began and he was singing adult songs at that age, I doubt he knew what he was talking about either, lol.

That's why his cover of "Who's Loving You" was special to me. He was 10 years old singing a grown-a$$ man song and SINGING it like he was grown! It's like Gabi Wilson now. She's singing Alicia Keys yet she only nine! LOL!

Big Boy Lyrics by Jackson 5

performed by Jackson 5

Fairy tales, fairy tales
I don't enjoy
Fairy tales and wishful dreams
Are broken toys
'Cause I'm a big boy now (Big boy)
That's looking for (Big boy)
Someone to love, oh yeah
Someone, someone to share my dreams, oh yeah
Mother goose, oh mother goose
Oh, won't you join
All I need is an ol' lovely girl
Holding my arm
'Cause I'm a big boy now (Big boy)
That's looking for (Big boy)
Someone to love, oh yeah
Someone, someone to share my dreams, oh yeah
Skating boards
And kiddie cars
Have had their day
Dating at the picture show with you
Is here to stay
'Cause I'm a big boy (Big boy)
That's looking for (Big boy)
Someone to love, oh yeah
Someone, someone to share my dreams, oh yeah
Come on, baby
Come on, baby, ooh

Yeah, the quality sucks. But its still cool to hear Michael at such a young age. He woulda won American Idol right then, no sweat, lol.
