Jackson fighting to save Neverland

28/02/2008 - 1:41:51 PM

Michael Jackson is determined to stop the auction of his old Neverland Ranch home by taking out a loan to cover the money he owes to the estate's trustees.Bosses at Financial Title Company have announced they will sell the fabled California property at auction on 19 March unless the pop star comes up with the $24.5m (€16.2m) they claim he owes them. The 'Thriller' singer vowed never to return to the Santa Barbara-area estate, where he once housed a zoo and theme park, after detectives ransacked the property for evidence to use against Jackson in his 2004 child However, he doesn't want his former home and fixtures and fittings to go under the hammer.A Jackson family insider insists the singer will avoid foreclosure on Neverland with a new loan, adding the auction "won't happen".The source tells CNN: "The financing is all being worked out. There are plenty of lenders willing to work with him."

Thriller Time[/size].. reviews, stories, blog comments, etc celebrating T25’s release
Michael Jackson - 25th Anniversary of Thriller

Britney Spears has problems. Michael Jackson has problems. One of them created the greatest CD ever — enough said. In 2008, we celebrate a much needed interruption from the Spear’s custody drama headlines with the 25th Anniversary re-release of Thriller: the aforementioned greatest album of all time.

The comparison of Spears to Jackson begins and ends as a simple shot at our current pop culture. Spears, like every multi-talented (and I’m not counting being gross as a talent) artist who came up in the ‘90s, benefited from the countless foundations that Jackson laid - “inspiration” aside. She even took advantage of modern TV and viral marketing schemes that were not available to MJ at his time yet still fell short of accomplishing any lasting greatness and pushed no personal musical vision forward during her reign as the poster girl for pop princesses to-be. So to that, we celebrate. Long live the King.

This 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller features all nine of the original tracks digitally remastered, a new unreleased track, and five classic remixes from the talents of Will.I.Am, Kanye West, Fergie and Akon.

The classic songs of Thriller expressed what was “right” in music and are now deservingly immortalized as such. “The Girl is Mine” is such a pure and innocent song that Jackson says “the doggone girl is mine”. Who is smooth enough to get away with saying that on the radio in this day in age? Benjamin Andre (“I Can’t Wait”) is the only name to come to mind besides Michael Jackson (“Butterflies”) himself. Regardless, Will.I.Am comes through with a hard edge yet classy remix, making it the best of the bunch.

That honor would have gone to Kanye West, who drops his signature drums into “Billie Jean” but fails to stamp it with a clever flow. While hot, the track could have been so much better. The biggest surprise of the bunch is Akon’s “Wanna Be Starting Something” as he keeps pace with Jackson’s sharp vocal changes. Conversely the dud of the CD belongs to Fergie on “Beat it 2008”. Fergie immediately sounds out of place and consequently trips, fumbles and stumbles all over the track.
All in all, the CD provided a great opportunity to re-listen to a masterpiece. As you should know, the original Thriller had seven of its nine tracks released as triumphant singles. To compare, the last album I remember listening to that had any sort of similar substance to track ratio was Beyonce’s B’Day, which released five official singles out of 10 tracks.

Beyond singles, Thriller’s influence with music videos, production, style, choreography, presentation, etc will forever live on.

I wish nothing more than to have this re-release empower the Chris Brown generation to understand where it all started.

Favorite songs: “The Girl is Mine 2008” – Will.I.Am, “Billie Jean 2008” – Kanye West, “The Girl is Mine” Featuring Paul McCartney, “Thriller”, “P.Y.T’ and “Billie Jean”.

Final Review: At 25 years and counting, Thriller will prove to be timeless. Own it and pass it down to the next generation. Cop it!

Fall Out Boy Swear Too Much, But They Love Michael Jackson

Fall Out Boy

Chicago emo quintet Fall Out Boy have avoided the wordiness of their song titles by naming their forthcoming live CD/DVD ****.

The band's performance was recorded last June at the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona and included such popular songs as "Dance, Dance," "Thanks Fr The Mmrs" and "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race." But the group's choice of covers might even be more interesting: Akon's "Don't Matter," Timbaland's "One And Only" and labelmates and so-close-they're-almost-kin Panic At The Disco's "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies." There's also a studio version of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" featuring an unnamed "special guest guitarist" included in the package, which will be released by Island on April 8.

The DVD features eight music videos, behind the scenes footage and a look at the making of the video for "Me & You" in Uganda. It will also be available separately from the CD.
The complicated-to-pronounce title is an homage to how much Fall Out Boy cuss onstage.
"Before watching ourselves on film we never really realized how much we swear," says bassist Pete Wentz on the band's blog. "Its pretty gross.

"And as for how to say the name, well any little four letter word will work."
OK. We choose "lame."

I was debating whether to include the ‘business man’ news today because of the Neverland situation.. but then I realize.. a successful person is not the one who never fails.. but the one who never gave up……..

Day 108 What the media don't show about Michael Jackson the business man –

Taylor Swift is Not 'Just a Girl' Anymore

"It's hard to believe a year and a half ago I sat in a building that'd be my label, where the walls weren't even painted, and we were stuffing envelopes with what would be my first single," said Taylor Swift with the "aw shucks, hey world" enthusiasm that defines her suddenly high-profile personality. "We were just hoping people would listen to a song called 'Tim McGraw.'"

They've done more than listen. With more than 40 million MySpace streams as of Feb. 16, three singles slammed into the Top 6 like home runs into bleachers ("Tim McGraw," "Teardrops on My Guitar" and the six-week, chart-topping "Our Song") and a self-titled album that spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, audiences and listeners are diving headfirst into the current unleashed by Swift, the first female solo artist in Country Music history to write or co-write every song on a double-Platinum-selling debut album and the youngest person to write and sing a No. 1 Country single ("Our Song") wholly on her own. In January, she reached new sales milestones with the digital Platinum certification of "Teardrops on My Guitar," and digital Gold of "Our Song." Swift joins an elite group of superstars with her digital Platinum status, as the only other Country artist to achieve this level of certification are the Dixie Chicks, Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood.

"I realize I am a business," conceded the 5-foot-11-inch blonde who gushed "This is definitely the highlight of my senior year!" upon winning the Horizon Award at the 2007 CMA Awards. "I'm lucky to have that. It changes the way you look at things. But I know I'm not 25. I'll have a whole year to be 25 when I am. So as much as I love to talk about business, I'm still 17."

But Swift's years, risen to 18 since the Awards broadcast, overflow with a lifetime's worth of adventure. One has to study Hannah Montana to see anything even remotely like what she has experienced: Swift was just 11 when, having dragged herself to writer nights and karaoke contests back home in Wyomissing, Pa., she followed the stars in her eyes to Nashville. At 13 she secured a development deal with the RCA Label Group and, at 14, became the youngest writer in the Sony/ATV Music Publishing stable.

"I felt set apart," she admitted. "After high school, my friends were going to sports or cheerleading, and I was being driven to a songwriting appointment. But, you know, I'd go sit with my co-writers and talk about what had happened at school that day."

Remember Sony/ATV = Sony/Michael Jackson

Like someone said in another thread, wonder why no one talks about the value of the Sony/ATV catalog. I see there are so many articles on Neverland's foreclosure, but no mention of what the catalog is earning--guess it doesn't go with the right territory.

THE SPECULATION CONTINUES.

Has "American Idol" Saved Neverland?

FROM: THE TV ZONE

http://weblogs.amny.com/entertainment/tv/blog/2008/02/american_idol_gets_beatles.html

The biggest "Idol" news of the year broke yesterday, and some of us are now left to wonder: Did Michael Jackson have something to do with this?
Ryan Seacrest broke that news on his radio show yesterday morning, saying that Sony/ATV has FINALLY given "American Idol" the rights to perform songs from the Beatles' catalog.
EDL09~The-Beatles-Posters.jpg

That's just under 200 songs, and some of them - OK, many of them - the greatest of the 20th century.
It's a huge break for "Idol" (as if "Idol" needs a huge break) because it has tried to get 'em for years but has met resistance for reasons both mysterious and obscure. "When the Top 12 sing for the first time this season, it will be the music of Lennon and McCartney," top boss Nigel Lythgoe told Seacrest (as quoted in RealityTVworld.com.) "We've given them a list because it's all of the early songs -- from 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' to 'Got to Get You Into My Life.' These fantastic songs. It's one of the few areas that everybody knows."
Why now, after all the foot-dragging? Said Lythgoe, "I think it was the talent this year. They see that it's real talent, and hear it. Everyone's so good this season, that they're saying, 'Yeah, go ahead. Sing the songs.'"

Well...ummm...ahhh...As we say in the TV trade, that sounds bogus (no offense, Nigel.) Money certainly changed hands - lots and lots of green - and the banks apparently are about to auction off Neverland, so...back to that question about MJ.

Yes, the first thought you may have, or at least I did: What did Michael Jackson have to do with this? Neverland was, in fact, scheduled to go to auction in mid-March but CNN is now reporting that ***** has kept the wolves at the door by raising a loan and will now avoid foreclosure.
Jackson appeared poised to sell his share of the catalog (total value around half a billion, with 251 songs, although Lythgoe used the 180 figure) back to Sony a couple of years ago. Because of the legal problems, the gloved one's financial condition was so desperate that it looked like he was about to part with one of the world's greatest cultural treasures. There was a flurry of press at the time (2005) that it was even a fait accompli.
But...it's unclear whether he actually ever did sell.
If sold, he likely had nothing to do with the "Idol" Beatles deal; if not sold, maybe he did, and "Idol" has saved Neverland.
I'll try to get to the bottom of this curious story, sports fans.
In any event, yesterday's coincidence is certainly interesting...

The article on American Idol is interesting to say the least. I noticed a young guy sang "Imagine" on Idol Tuesday. It was the best performance of the night, but I never knew that the Beatles songs weren't allowed on Idol before now. They should have released these songs before now. They've always had a few people that could actually sing on Idol. I doubt, however, that Neverland is the reason for the release of these songs, but what a missed opportunity. lmao

The article confuses me.. Didn't MJ meet with 'Idol' people last year to allow them to use Beatles music?? That is where the MJ appearing on American Idol started to go around.... Right?

The article is confusing because it is riddled with lies and is a continuation of the MJ is broke smear canpaign. iT ALSO demonstrates the rason why the media hates MJ. They believe he is living off the Beatles, now they are trying to make it look as if he is saved by the beetles.:)

That Beatles article is misguided. SonyATV is a joint venture. Money earned from it doesn't just get released like that, let alone within 3 weeks to one of the parties and MJ has trusts to which the money goes.

Why doens't the writer simply say, well , since T25 is selling, maybe that's where the money is coming from?

It's always got to be the Beatles. They hoped he'd lose the catalog, that failed, now they hoped his career would be over, that failed with T25 success, now they hope he'll lose his home, that too has failed and now already they try to find excuses why he's not losing his home and that has to be anything MJ is associated with, as long as one does not mention T25.

Yep. That is why I didn't bother to read it after I saw the headlies. Total lack of integrity.
I often wonder how other artist live on their earnings since MJ can't even survive on his and he is the most successful artist ever.:)

The media is just so DUMB. LOL!

That article is making it seem like Michael Jackson runs EVERYTHING over at Sony/ATV. I mean, IF MJ can just approve American Idol's use of the Beatles' songs all on his own, so he can get money to secure Neverland.

Then I would have to say that Michael must be a very, VERY POWERFUL person. LOL!

They only remember the catalogue when they want to blame MJ for something. Funny how they never seem to remember that he cannot be broke if he owns the catalogue cause he must be earning something from it.

You know that's right!

I'm sort of glad Ryan Secrest used the proper authority when he spoke about the Beatles' songs. LOL! I like the fact that he said "Sony/ATV yada yada yada".

That way the h-ater's get to see the catalog in action. LOL! I think even a layman will know that use of any Beatles' tune equals BIG MONEY.

Yes, and here is another fact. Sony/atv is not a sole company, it operates as a coperation. It is massive. This means that MJ is paid a salary just for signing agreements. MJ doesn't work for nothing. MJ is on the exec board as part owner if the company. He will be paid a wapping great big salery for the pleasure. It was revealed in 06 that MJ was paid as muchas $10 million dollars. That has nothing to do with profit. That is just wages for being an employee of the company. And that is how MJ can live in casino hotels which cost big bucks and not worry at all.
Another thing. Rich people do not use there own money for transactions. They always invariably use bank money. They simply use their assets as collateral. This is exactly what MJ is doing and no doubt as always done, but the fools are using it to make news.:)

the media are going to twist things.. especially if Neverland does not go up for auction as they would hope..

its funny, folks in my office were just mentioning it.. and they were quite supportive...

on another point.. I think it is SICK..that a certain tabloid idiot obesses over Michael 's finances.. it has literallly been over 7 years now...

They were talking about it at my office the other day. And the funny thing is they were all talking about how many times they have heard this same exact story in the past. It was cute, because some of them are fans and some of them are non-fans, but they all remember how many times this story has been repeated in the past.

I just sat silently and smiled!

Yeah, and the more the media keeps repeating this story, the less the public is gonna believe them, especially when they see Michael still owning the ranch.

As far as the public is concerned, it has become a " I'll believe it when I see it" thing.

I wish I could do that, I just can't keep my mouth shut when someones talking something about MJ, good or bad. LOL

When I'm in a group situation and the conversation is negative, I most definitely chime in with the FACTS.

But when the conversation is positive, "most" of the time, I am silent, smiling AND observing.

i would love to know how the media can rationalize reporting that spears makes $700,000 a MONTH when she doesn't write, produce, or compose any of her songs nor does she own the rights to anything...yet mj makes pennies a day and is homeless, penniless, and a mess....LOL

LMAO seriously how dumb was that Beatles article...I hope people aren't so daft as to think there are connections between song approvals and MJs debts just like that. Thats like saying MJ said 'oh yeah here ya go american idol..use a few beatles songs..yeah and thanks. Tranfer the cash to my account...because by the 19th I gotta bay off some debt'!!! WTF...idiots.

:toofunny: Crazy people I tell you!

Thanks for the news.

Wow, I did not know that MJ has problems. Fools. If they are going to discuss T25, discuss the MUSIC not a man they never met. Also, this comparison to Britney is an complete insult.

That is annoying. The media can't seem to understand that MJ is never going to be broke, never going to lose NL and never lose the catalogue. The media just needs to report the story as it is. Also, isn't it crazy that Yahoo.com has MJ listed as number 2 or 4 in their daily 10 listings but when T25 came out, Mike was not even listed. I find taht fishy. It seems like many people wanna see how the outcome of the NL saga ends. Pretty distrubing when the whole world wanna see if MJ "loses" his home or not.
