So unfortunately it's my day to do the news :p Not that anyone will believe anything more I have to say today

Talk of the day has been the MJJC Prank - surprisingly enough it was quickly wide spread all over the internet. Sorry to those who didn't find it funny but once a year we are intitled to a little humor. I hope you'll find some humor in it cuz Momma aint ever done nothing like that and I swear I've never laughed so hard.

Real news is pretty lacking today thank god lol.

I'll be right back with mentionings.

Dee Dee Bridgewater

...She danced sassily, and even kept her balance as one of her band pulled her across the stage while doing the best moonwalk since Michael Jackson...

Wow and that's about it that not pranks lol.

Get me out
Into the night-time
Four walls won't hold me tonight
If this town
Is just an apple
Then let me take a bite

It is very quiet in the land of MJ news, but that "might" be a good sign.

Everybody is always talking about how quiet MJ is, when he is working. Then BAM, he hits you with something new. Apparently that's his M.O., or so I have been told. LOL!

LOL I thought this piece on the singer Chris Cornell talking about his version of "Billie Jean" being better than the one that "IDOL" singer David Cook sang was stupid.I would say hold on wait a minute the original one from the King Of Pop is truly the most genius peice because he is the one whom wrote it first and did a hell of a performance for it. So stop WHINING Chris Cornell because you will have to give credit first to the King of Pop for letting you use his song.

Cornell to Cook: "Billie Jean" Is Not Yours, Son!

Chris Cornell wants everyone to know that he really liked David Cook's rendition of "Billie Jean" on "Idol" last week -- because he did it first!

In an interview on Billboard.com, Cornell admits Cook "sang it great," but adds, "it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with." Step off, wannabe!

While Ryan Seacrest did give Cornell credit for the innovative cover on the show, Cook's imitation has Chris singing all the way to the bank -- Cornell's "Billie Jean" has jumped to #12 on iTunes. Sing copycats, sing!

I also believe that Michael is being ripped off by Connel because he has not really changed the tune, he simply sing it at a slower pace and used simple instumentation. I really don't know what all the fuss is about. If I were MJ I would be quite annoyed.

Let me ask, a question here. Does it make any difference to MJ financially, if MJ's version is sung or Chris's? Also, does Chris get paid if his version of the song is sung? Or is it just MJ that gets payed?

adding...

Speaking to Reuters, Chris Cornell says he's surprised but flattered that "American Idol" contestant David Cook performed a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" last week on the show, in what was nearly a note-for-note version of Cornell's own interpretation.

Interest has since spiked in the Cornell cover, a drastically stripped-down take on the song that appeared on his 2007 solo album "Carry On." The track is currently No. 12 on iTunes' Top Alternative chart.

The former Soundgarden frontman told Billboard he was returning from a trip to South Africa when the show aired last Tuesday, and by the time he got home to Paris, he was flooded by emails from fans unsure about what was going on.

"This is something where they know I came up with this arrangement and reinvented the song," he said. "I stuck my neck out being a guy that comes from the indie rock world doing a Michael Jackson song. You can clearly see that the judges are giving this guy credit for it on national television. My fans were like, 'Wait a minute! That's Chris Cornell's moment."'

Michael wrote Billie Jean and he has the rights to it. I don't care if they sing the song in rock, rap, country etc... Michael gets paid either way. He owns the publishing rights

it can either be a good sign or a bad sign, Lord knows I'm hoping for something good finally

It was annoying how nobody on American Idol ever once mentioned Michael Jackson's name in connection to Billie Jean. Instead, Ryan Seacrest used Chris Cornell's name several times. If anyone should be mad about any of this, it should be Michael.

I agree! Randy, Paula or Simon didn't once mention MJ's classic song. I'm shocked that Randy didn't mention him, since I thought he was a fan. In my mind it's just a way to try and erase Mike from history. Now everyone is fussing over Chris Cornell's version, when Mike is the originator of the song

I agree. It is almost like they are trying to claim the song as his. MJ's music was part of the magic of the song. The man used the guitar cause he couldn't have produced the original, but the tune is still the same, just slowed down.:)

It would have been nice, if the American Idol crew had mentioned Mike's name.

But this is the way I look at it, when you say the name BILLIE JEAN, you automatically think of MICHAEL JACKSON. I don't care who you are, or where you live. They might be all up in arm's today, but a few months from now, heck a few weeks from now ain't nobody gonna be thinking about Chris Cornell & Billie Jean.

Samething goes with the KING OF POP title. I don't care who you are, or where you live. When you hear KING OF POP, you automatically think of Michael Jackson.

No matter how hard they try, that will NEVER change.

Oh stop it. It hasn;t been 24 hrs yet. let it eun it's course.

Here come the final. The sales has fallen this week but he is at #15.

havnt really followed this topic but a song is a song u cant sing someone elses version.BJ is written by mj its his song so he gets paid regardless of who is singing it if chris's version is played o nthe radio then he gets paid as the performer but the songwriter is the song writer regardless of whos singing it

Yeah, on AOL they've done 2 stories on this and both times MJ is shown on the page with a link to his and the other versions of the song on youtube. And last I saw on the AOL poll MJ was second to David Cook in the "Whos' version was better" poll  Cook had 47% and MJ had 43% and Cornell had 11%.

See, not to be mean, but this is exactly what we mean by 'whitewashing'
MJ is hated on mostly because of his efforts to intergrate the music biz. Will Cornell or anyone from Idol ever achieve his crossover appeal?

On the addition of a poll:

This was, should have been a great story all around! But instead we see the racist media couldn't resist! They had to 'spin it' in an attempt to diminish the contribution of yet another African-American artist. In stark contrast, the reverse being, that it's considered 'sacrilege' to re-record work by a white artist, let alone own a catalogue full of 'em.;) So this how they pay MJ back for his licensing them to use, but not own the songs...jealousy & greed!

This is why I felt American idol couldn't be trusted to promote or do business with MJ. Never forget that they are owned by murdock (owner of fox news). When I first heard about the performance I was concerned about all of the above! I did have hopes that idol wouldn't pull any ish. tmz is bad enough on it's own, but it's also connected to fox...they worked together in attempting to spin this.

American idol had the chance to follow behind Dick Clark by basking in the diversity of truly great American Music & being the voice of a whole new generation. Too bad, since they want to deal in halfs, oh well.-_-
I believe... has it been confirmed that MJ cashes in either way?

No prob, continue to pray for MJ's continued success & enjoy all the daily acknowledgements sent MJ's way... both direct & indirect. His own version being used by desperate housewives is also $big new$.:)

yes he gets paid he wrote Billie Jean it doesn't matter who sings it, the song belongs to Michael Joseph Jackson Sr....

Yes, I found that annoying as well, but i'm not suprised about Secreast. Secreast has always been an ass when it comes to Michael so i'm sure he decided not to mention MJ's name on purpose. I didn't like how the judges were acting either though, not even one mention of Michael. They were talking as though "Billie Jean" was Chris Cornell's song. I mean sure he did a great cover of it but they NEED to give credit where credit is due and the song would not even exist without Michael.

No matter what though Michael's version is the orignal and the definitive version of the song. Soon all this hype over David Cook and Chris Cornell's versions will die down so they better enjoy it while it lasts. Anyway, like others have already stated, Michael is still getting payed at the end of the day so it's all good!
