Michael jackson - jackson to be honoured as official american legend

What can we do rather then bitch and whine? At least who can we bitch and whine to in order to make a difference and trully be heard and felt? This is sad. I was disgusted when I read this. Regardless what they feel, how can they discount his countless deeds to society... to people like me who viewed Michael Jackson as a major influence to overcome obstacles in my own life as he represented himself as a REAL soldier of love, peace and harmony. A true American saga from the humblest of beginnings in Gary, IN to international acclaim by heads of States, Royalty and Popes alike. The most notable humanitarian in entertainment history. Yet, they devalue this legacy based upon rumors, inuendo, misunderstandings, sensationalism that plagued his career and unfounded allegations which the US judicial system shown as ideally false. Yet he is being judged again for something he was found not guilty. Good way for the government to uphold their respect for American justice. What was the point of clearing his name if he wouldn't be cleared? Shame on these bigots running our country. They are not my voice! Not to mention, all the people Michael Jackson has inspired to be the best whether in the realm of entertainment or their own crafts. Least not forget the comfort level HE DID bring as the first major cross over black artist paving to way for all people, especially of color including the Oprah's and Obama's! These are the things that make me ashamed of this country (sometimes this world, but I do have more faith in this world at times like this than the United States of America. United my ass! I am so devided with this governing!!!). I am sorry for being so angry and ventful, but this is a slap in the face not just against Michael Jackson, but my own journey and the role MJ played. I am proud that Michael is being recognized officially in other parts of the world. Once again, we are left behind as the closed minded, prejiduced USA! Special thanks to Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee.

I ask again, NOW WHAT CAN WE DO? IF WE RAISE OUR VOICE AS ONE, WHAT CAN WE ACCOMPLISH?

I would say this to Sheila Lee, let her withdraw it and get people who love Michael to honour Michael and give him the Award.

Let the Black Caucus and NAACP present Michael with that honour.

That would be outstanding to create an award specially for Michael Jackson jointly by NAACP and the Black Caucus as an African American legend.

That has much more punch to it rather than trying to involve haters to honour Michael.
Such an award would be great, but Michael deserves more than that. He was not just an African-American legend. He is a legend for Americans in general and people around the world. He should not be segregated because of a few ignorant, intolerant people.

Great post SeanK. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Well you have Elvis, who was a Jackie Wilson impersonator. George Washington is a hero when he had a bad record as a general. Columbus "discovered" America when Africans & Chinese came here hundreds of years before him. Americans celebrate stealing land and genocide aka Thanksgiving. But I don't think it's John Wayne's race per se. It's unlikely Ozzy Osbourne, John Lennon, Elton John, Andy Worhol, or Madonna would get approved either.

John Wayne did what? Played Genghis Khan oh so convincingly? Seriously though, this country is one messed up place when there even needs to be a debate to acknowledge the greatness of someone like Michael Jackson. It should be something done auto-fricken-matically.

Didn't Nancy Pelosi object to this?:(

I think someone may need to remind Pelosi of how Michael helped the Democratic party in the 90s.

Get this in front of Obama. He *should* understand what this means to millions of people around the globe.
Hell Michael's a King in Africa for cryin out loud.
So is LL Cool J. It doesn't matter, as I said before the government is "good 'ol boys". The US government doesn't care about Africa other than for resources. How do you think AIDS got over there? Why did they only pay attention when Bono talks about Africa, who's not even an American citizen?

But they don't like Bill Clinton, why do you think they tried to impeach him for a totally dumb reason. So they're not going to give Mike any recognition for that

Its not really that big of a deal. He doesn't need a certificate or anything like that from congress.

Hallelujah!!!

Like I said. Get this in front of Obama.
Unless everyone on here would rather just stop now.....

And, how do we get this in front of Obama with ALL that he already has on his plate with a deficit, recession, Afghanistan War, Iran, North Korea and other world issuess involving security and climate? How about we ambush the House of Representatives and US Congress? Petition? Maybe leaders of fan forums should contact Sheila Jackson-Lee and see what coarse of action we can help most? That's what I think. This needs organized sooner rather than later.

Now that it's been presented and not passed it's a slap in the face of his legacy. Yes, it is needed now! Besides, since there is such a thing, nobody deserves this more than Michael did!

You mean Barack "don't wanna release a statement about this 'tragic life' " Obama. Bill Clinton would approve. He's the real 1st "African American" president, not Obama lol. Obama doesn't wanna upset the Bible Belt people.

I honestly don't think Obama's worried about the bible belt. They didn't vote for him.

I loved Clinton. I wish he and Hillary would speak up in support. I voted for Obama, but I will be very pissed off at him if he doesn't acknowledge Michael Jackson better than he has and supporting Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee's initiative. F##k people like Palosi and King! They don't represent MY America!!!

Sooner or later, this resolution will hit the floor and they will have to vote on it. Sheila Jackson Lee is not gonna stop....the woman is tenacious!

^ That. People need to start spreading the word on places like Facebook and Myspace as well.

ahhh, this is so not fair. Michael is being let down by America once agian.

I don't really see how this will help or hurt his legacy one way or the other, approved or not.

I just liken it to winning or not winning a grammy or an academy award. In the long run, it means little.

Who cares if some people in Washington approve or disprove of this? The general public is what matters, and MJ is obviously a legend. Not just an American legend or icon, but a global one.
