Interesting story about the shows from the "inside"

there is always 2 sides of a story..unfortunately fate right now only gives us 1 side. which is a nice one a happy one...lets enjoy the magic that one creates...all the stress and worry is completely useless now in this project...

Exactly!!

A week before Phantom of the Opera opened, massive chaos happened. The set broke - other massive mishaps happened with the music, everything was falling apart.

All the drama that happens backstage IS A PART of SHOW BUSINESS.

There are supposed to be disagreements, technical snafus, costuming issues, etc., even MINUTES before a show goes on.

And a true professional rolls with the flow. They make sure the show goes on NO MATTER WHAT.

Michael knew this, Kenny knew this, AEG knew this.

I don't see WTF is the big deal about. This happens all the time in show business.

I agree YOU speak the TRUTH

and any insider would know this is a fact when producing any show
I wont believe no LOW life who wont put his own name on his ISH
or any fan that reports I have a story but cant reveal the source Really does the fan
owe alligience to the source and NOT to the truth and to Michael VERY suspicious
and the egenda is very transparent and unbelivable _ GOSSIP And personal attacks
against everyone but KAREN FAYE ( AGENDA) LOL:

Can you really blame people for not wanting to give out their name when you see how people and behave and react in threads like this?

Can you really blame people for not wanting to give out their name when you see how people and behave and react in threads like this?

Exactly. People only believe what they want to believe and many don't care what those who actually knew him and talked to him everyday are trying to say, so why risk your neck by giving out your name, just to have people who never even met MJ say they are liars. I wouldn't want to give out my name either!

I think it would be a very hard line, if you say anything, AEG/Sony can fire you or sue you, but still you loved or respected Michael and saw things you want people to know about because you feel they were off.... it's probably a hard pair of shoes to be in...

Me too. It's never ending at this point

This is not a TINI thread
The originator of this story stated
Michael was in good shape 100 % ready and able to perform but the rest of the production was not ready.

This is completly against what TINI reports

I was actually reading this article all through, but in my eyes, the article lost authenticity when all that "he only spoke to Karen Faye" stuff started popping up. How ironic this story was posted at the same time Karen posted her story on Facebook.... And why was this story not posted BEFORE the movie was released??? As for Karen faye, she IS NOT a reliable source. Look at her history. That's all I will say since I don't want to get into the topic of Karen anymore.

I saw the film and saw his closeness to the dancer's and crew....The ending where he says 'we're all family, god bless you'...hard to fake really. They all looked ready. Plus you can see in the scenes in the film how Michael was running the show. Telling his crew, dancer's and even Ortega of how he wanted things done. Ortega kept asking Michael how he wanted things done and if something was not right, to speak up. Like the earpiece thing. He didn't want to wear it and he took it off. Ortega accepted it, asked Michael what he wanted and they moved on. I don't see the big deal. The captain of his ship had spoken :)

Most stuff written on the web/message boards are lies anyway. It's easy to lie when you are posting anonymously on the internet. This story just reads like one of those testimonials on that This is NOT it Campaign. Quite honestly, in my opinion, this stuff just read's as if it was written by the same people over there. Same typo mistakes. Same grammatical errors. Hell, any of us who weren't at the rehearsal's could have written this. lol My take on it.

Just wish people would stop trying to make Michael out to be some victim.

Moving on

*moonwalks out*

I don't know. I just find it hard to believe that all these people who have worked with Michael for years, are involved in this "cover up". Frank Dileo, for example, has been with Michael for more then 25 years. He was associated with AEG for 4 months... tops. Now, is Frank going to put the interests of AEG above those of MJ's? Same goes with Travis Payne and Kenny Ortega. These people have known Michael for years. Why would they care more about AEG then they do about Michael? Why would they care only about AEG's reputation when, according to some people, AEG is the very reason their friend of 20 years is dead? Many of the dancers were fans, like us. Now think about this. If you were there dancing with Michael, and you witnessed Michael being sick and weak, and he died as a result, would you protect AEG? Would you not speak out? Forget the pay check, a man is gone. Three innocent children have been left without their father. A mother was forced to bury her son. I really don't believe that Kenny, Frank, Travis, Kevin Mazur, Michael Beardon, all dancers, all musicians, Miko Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, would be more concerned about protecting AEG's ass then getting justice for Michael. Yes, sometimes greed gets in the way, but would all these people really protect a company that contributed to a man's death because they need to... as this guy put it... "pay the bills"? Come on...

For REAL, though.

I'm somewhat in "show business" - SHIT HAPPENS. ALL THE TIME.

Normally, when the protagonist, main actor, main performer, headliner - whatever, the BIG CHEESE...

They only show up when everything else is set up and ready to go WHEN they feel like it. Most big performers rehearse in private and then when things are close to curtain call, they come on. But this "whoever" that was quoted in this article clearly did not understand the process.

Also, when a show is super technical, as is THIS IS IT, there are hundreds of detailed issues that won't be ready until the first curtain call. Sometimes, things are NOT ready, but the show goes on and are added later on.

And drama happens behind the stage ALL THE TIME, but the audience never ever sees it when the show is good - and the main performer/s make up for it with their riveting performances.

Michael can take a bare stage and not even sing or move and he has everybody crying their eyes out in joy & euphoria.

And with a single move of his hands, foot, or a guttural sound from the depths of his soul - with no other instrument playing - Michael makes the world shake from under you.

Michael planned EVERY DETAIL himself, and he knew it from the stiching on the dancers' costumes, to the visual effects, to each of the dancers' moves, to the chords & notes the band should play.

WTF!? What I'm hearing is a lot of "fans" doubting the genius of MJ. The man was ON POINT with everything.

To say that Michael Jackson was not ready to perform, is like saying Albert Einstein couldn't add up 1 + 1.

DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

So anybody that thinks he couldn't be up for the task of the O2, clearly DOESN'T KNOW Michael Jackson.

Exactly also the question becomes does this people "need" money for the bills?

for example
Miko Brando is the son of Marlon Brando and therefore he is independently wealthy.

Kenny Ortega is one of the hottest directors around he got the HSM series, he was goinf to do Footloose. I really do not think that he needs a job or pay from AEG.

and Elizabeth Taylor has no business or monetary connection to Michael whatsover.

This x 1000 times!

Re: Don't believe everything you read

All this story seems like speculation from your source. After having seen the movie twice since now, my opinion is that despite all the rumors the show seemed quite ready. Michael was obviously ready, dancers were ready, the band, the videos, the clothes (even though they didn't yet rehearse in them, zombie costumes were ready and rehearsed though), everything. 2 weeks plus is just enough time for final dress rehearsals and a couple of illusions if you ask me (like the opening 'light man').
As for other stuff this source mentions, glasses and earphones don't mean a thing imo nor did I see any hatred or misbehavior between Michael, Ortega or crew in the film. I choose not to believe these stories cause, in my experience as a fan, when it comes to MJ, no third party could ever portray the truth about him (even some times when they meant well and said nice stuff about him - not even his own family!)

I have to agree. I don't believe Kenny Ortega would get into it with Michael. They had worked together on his last two tours and Michael trusted him. He has worked with Travis Payne for over 2 decades as well. Why in the world would they risk arguing with Michael when they know very well he could have them replaced? As far as Randy Philips, I don't know. I'm not sure what to make of this guy. Yes, he's trying to restore the reputation of AEG. They have taken a brutal beating and maybe deservedly so. It's pretty hard to fight against a father [Joe Jackson] who believes you caused the death of his son.
None of us really knows what happened in the final few weeks. Best believe there were several people involved. I'm still concerned about Tohme Tohme. Why was there no mention of him? This man practically controlled every facet of MJs life including his finances. Plus he was once married to Randy Phillips daughter, Janet. It will take time, but eventually the truth about everything will come out.

really?.....This Mrfuture has been known to lie before?.....I have never heard of him until this thread......thank you for your post..I wish I had something else I could read that he has made other untrue statements.

- I too find it quite unrealistic that someone from the "inside", who is under contract and should not say something negative would tell this much information to a stranger and additionally will say that it is okay to post it online. It screams fake there.

- How many people on the TII crew had worked with MJ for 20 years? I think this person will be easy to identify as well.

- "he rarely interacted with the crew, other than Karen Faye and at times with Michael Bush". Yeah right of course.. I think this person or source is really Karen Faye or one of her personalities :) .. I would believe that MJ did not like Randy Phillips but only Faye and Bush is a real stretch imo. I feel like MJ is close to/ friends with Ortega, Payne and Braden as well.

- I watched the movie to me MJ, dancers and the band looked more than ready. The costumes, lights etc could be ready in the time period that they had. These kind of things start slowly in the beginning but then pick the pace up ( what I am trying to say is planning, designing, building could take 2 months - and you would see nothing- but it could be put together in 3 days etc).

- Anything else mentioned is very routine stuff that happens at rehersals. I worked with a band (not related to MJ in anyway) and know the process. In my personal experience with that band it seemed like we were trying to get ready and finish everything till the last minute (and we were), we were still tweaking and adding stuff even though we have already done 3-4 shows and the lead singer of that band almost had a issue with the earpiece every night... So really all the other stuff mentioned looks like normal, routine rehersal stuff to me.

The person (as others on AEG's payroll) cannot talk or he will be sued for a lot of money. But he does have a conscience and wants to tell what he knows, and that is why he went anonymous. What's so hard to understand?

All these things make my head hurt. I don't know what to believe anymore. I saw the movie and I saw Michael involved in everything. I can believe that maybe he didn't feel as confident at first. Who could blame him? The trial and the last few years were hard for him. But I felt this confidence in him grow as it went on. I remember after they don't care about us this huge smile on his face. I saw him smiling a different points and that made me smile.

I know nothing about porductions etc. but I think they couldn't do everything exactly until they got to London. I don't know what the truth is but like others said Michael still had it. The voice, the moves, determination and everything. Maybe the dvd will have extras to answer other questions. But once that music hit it and he started it was amazing.

I just want Michael back but that isn't going to happen. I want justice for him. Everyone is focused on the movie but his death was ruled a homicide and I am waiting for something to be done about this. It's been 4 months already. I hope the police are looking into everything including what his work was like. He should still be here with us.

I completely agree :)! We don't really know what happens behind the scenes..with everything. We may look at a finished product like an album or film and think that because its so good that all of the actors and crew and directors were lovingly working together to make a masterpiece..but more often than not..that's not the case at all. It's alot of heartache and arguments and deadlines, stress, tension, you name it. Even on his albums..we hear about things here and there about how songs not making it on the album and arguments with quincy and all sorts of things. so to assume that everything went perfectly well 24/7 for three months is quite irrational. Add on top of that all of the stress Michael was going through with working on his personal album, thinking about films, raising his kids, worrying about the lawsuits that were against him, and ofcourse the actual concerts. All of this and throw in the fact that he wasn't eating or sleeping well. That's a prescription for disaster if you ask me. I mean it could have gone well..but the fact that it didn't shouldn't be surprising..heartbreaking..but not surprising..

I would believe this more if it had been posted before the movie had been released! Thats just my opinion! I feel any one could make this up after seeing the film!

Exactly, these kind of post make me sick, i was just feeling happy about the movie and now have to read this junk.

Kenny was bending backwards for mj in the movie, i do not believe any other thing hat he was being unkind to Mike.

Sorry, what does b/f mean?

That's what i wonder too... :)

I think it means "before".

Yes, LauraLovesMJ is right. When I wrote b/f, I meant before.

Mrfuture likes making up stories. He's been a member of that forum for a long time. He may have disappeared for a while but I still recognize that username.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

I'd be in the 'I don't believe it' side..

Why would this person talk so openly about aaaaall of this to a stranger ?

Good point.

it has to be stated that you could see from the film that nothing was perfect.... production wise.... this film was heavily edited to make everything look good!

Have you heard Kenny's yawning policy? If you yawn while working with him you must pay a $1 fine. The money collected at the end of the project from this is given to a charity.

Oh my God, that's hilarious! It's considered a major faux in the theatre world too. I've definitely been introduced to the yawn jar...though I think our money was just going towards the director's dinner. =P I remember being kicked out of a ballet class at stage school for that too, lol. There are a lot of weird stage etiquette rules like that. But I didn't know Kenny was old-school, man, haha. Love it.

Think about the most perfect couple you've ever witnessed. Everything is love & hugs & kisses to the world, but nobody knows what happens behind closed doors. It take a lot of work to make love work.

Same goes with a show.

This was - as in everything Michael does - LOVE. And again - it takes a lot of work to make LOVE work.

It's NOT EASY.

It looks easy - and it should look easy for a show to be good, but it's WORK.

And Michael is one of the few who worked the hardest and made sure that when it was his turn, he did it right for us, for himself & his team and for the world.

anonymous? perhaps to me and to you he/she could be.. but it is stated that "he/she worked with MJ for 20 some years and has a family and was at a vacation in Florida"... as I said before "How many people on the TII crew had worked with MJ for 20 years? I think this person will be easy to identify as well. ". I believe AEG could identify him/her very easily..

additionally how long are they going to be on payroll? Karen Faye and Michael Bush isn't, Orianthi is doing her album, Beardon is doing George Lopez show, Hill is looking for a job. To me it looks like only the dancers are kept under the contract for promotion reasons but most of the people look/act like they are no longer under contract.

They seem to still be "gagged", maybe there is a longer clause. Also, even if as you say, this person can be identified by AEG, legally they can't do anything because they can't prove it and the statement was not made public directly.

"gagged" means confidentiality agreement but in that they "don't pay you to keep silent" , they can "sue you if you talk".. so being "gagged by confidentiality agreement won't help to pay the bills"..

as seeing how Karen Faye can write so openly and directly at her personal facebook, it does not seem like there is a confidentiality agreement in place.. (if she is not bound by anthing, I don't think other people would be as well)

off topic : loved the curls for my girls tshirt..

This from KOP board, posted by MRfuture, I cant say if it is 100% true, but what the guy says make alot of sense. I always felt the shows were being rushed, they should have announced the shows at least one month earlier for preparations and stuff.... NOTHING was ready, and they were supposed to leave for London in 8 days. I cant even begin to understand the pressure that was on Michael....

http://www.mjj2005.com/kopboard/ind...pid=1229658&mode=threaded&start=#entry1229658

Yeasterday I had the amazing chance to speak to someone who worked on This Is It. This person has worked with Michael in the past, I've seen him before on TV close to Michael, and I also saw him in the movie and his name appears at the end. He is here in Miami on vacation with family and a good friend of mine knows him. I begged him to let me meet him and he was the sweetest person, and he loved Michael.

He gave me the ok to share with you what he told me, however with the condition that I would name provide his name. He is under contract with AEG/Sony and is only allowed to officially talk good about the movie and the concert. As he told me "hey, I also gotta pay my bills, so I have to do what they say."

However, at the same time he told me to "share with fans what I said, because it is important that some things are known."

He has great respect and admiration for Michael and has known him for over 20 years.

Here's the most important things he told me:

- Michael has always been a very sweet, humble person, since the first time they met 20 years ago, however he noticed that during these reharsals, he looked even more humble than usual, to the point that he actually felt Michael was incredibly insecure this time around, he saw him very vulnerable and everyone automatically tried to make him feel ok, everyone wanted to bring the spark in him that old Michael Jackson had. According to this person a combination of the 2005 trial and the long absence from the spotlight made Michael feel very insecure.

-Michael did not get along at all with Randy Phillips. Everyone knew it, even Phillips knew it. Phillips had a very arrogant way of dealing with Michael, he was terrified that Michael would not get ready for the shows and AEG would lose a lot of money. According to this person, Phillips made it clear to several people that these concerts had to happen, no matter what, because he "had to personally convince everyone at AEG that this was a good deal" therefore his job was at risk if anything went wrong. On many occasions Phillips would go to Michael's house with Ortega and Travis Payne whenever Michael would not show up. At times they would come back with him, at times no. The official explanations to the crew was "Michael is not feeling well today," "Michael reharsed at home" or "Michael is reharsing with his vocal coach."
At first the crew believed it, but after a few weeks everyone started realizing something was up because even though Ortega and Payne would say everything was fine, it was obvious that they were very frustrated and nervous, and there were several heated discussions between Ortega, Phillips and Payne, but what exactly was being discussed was not clear since they always ade sure they would be far enough for anyone to hear. During these conversations one of them would always be on a cellphone, and then the would pass it aroud to themselves. This person believes they were talking to Michael.

-Michael, and this is shown in the movie, did not want to wear the ear monitors. As this person told me, "look at any footage from Michael in concerts in the past, and you will never find him wearing ear monitors, he did not like them, did not need them." According to him, Ortega got upset at one time at Michael, and in front of everyone told him "you have to undrstand that here you do not have an option, you have to wear them, this is going to be a closed arena, not an open stadium, and the sound is different." He said his tone was very nasty and everyone was shocked, especially since Michael looked very upset, but mostly hurt, by it.
Interestingly, yesterday Karen Faye wrote on her facebook that Michael always complained to her that he did not like ear monitors, and asked her to tell Ortega. According to her, she did and Ortega told her "well, he has to wear them!"

-This is very interesting. According to this person, there was absolutely no way the concert was going to be ready for opening night on July 13th, and everyone kenw it. He asked me the following "when you saw the movie, you do realize right that they had to show the best scenes, the best performances, right ?" I said "yes, of course" to which he replied "so do you realize that what you have seen, most of it came from June 24th, 23rd and 22nd ? Based on what you saw, did it feel as if everything was going to be ready in 2 weeks ?" He said that Michael did not have his clothes ready, and that there was "pathetic" @#$%$ing around from different stylists that were trying to come up with ideas. But nothing was ready, no clothes, not even for the dancers. Michael wanted Michael Bush, but Travis Payne brought in that Zaldy guy, and AEG was behind Zaldy, rather than Michael Bush.
The opening number for the concert was only done on the computer, just like we saw in the movie. It was never reharsed, and the robot that Michael would have come out from was not ever ready. Also the closing of the show was just a concept.
He also confirmed that they never had a full reharsal. In other words, they never practiced the whole concert, it would always be a few songs on several days, but it was never put all together, therefore they were laso very concerned that once everything was gonna put together, it would take much longer that the 2 hours orgnally planned. This was going to be a huge problem for AEG and the O2 arena, because of an agreement they had with time. Also, Michael did not want to have long shows, for obvious reasons.
Also, they never reharsed with implementing the videos for Smooth, Thriller and Earth as we saw in the movie, those were edited in the movie, but they never reharsed using them, and it was still unclear how they would be used with the songs, especially Smooth Criminal.

-For the most part, Michael looked well, however this person did unfortunately confirm to me that there were days that something was "wrong" and everybody knew it. He worked with Michael in the past and Michael never wore sunglasses while reharsing the dark like that, especially since Michael in the past would always want to see how the lights looked and for that reason did not like using shades. But he said "don't expect them to talk about it on tv of course, same with me, I won't and I can't." He said that at first everybody thought Michael was just eccentric and stuff, especially the dancers, they were just excited to see him, but he said for those who knew him for many years, including him, started realizing alarming signs.
However, he said, this just shows how vulnerable Michael was and he does not like how people associate this behavior with something negative. He said "he went through so much poor thing, I perfectly understand why this was happening." Oh and btw, he said that some of the crew members started checking TMZ with their IPHONES to find out whether or not Michael had seen Dr. Klein during the day. It would usually warn them on what to expect when he showed up.

-Michael had fun when performing, it appeared as if it was what he needed, however off stage Michael did no look happy, he rarely interacted with the crew, other than Karen Faye and at times with Michael Bush. According to this person, Michael stayed as far as he could from Ortega, Payne and Phillips off stage, because he always felt he was being chased by them to do more, perform more and give more. He said that the crew in general felt Ortega was being too demanding, especially when it was obvious nothing was ready on time. But they mostly felt Ortega was being pressured by Phillips, and that it was Phillips who was just going crazy because was in a position of losing everything with these shows.

-The day after the news came out that some fans claimed Michael told them he did not want to do 50 concerts, everyone was instructed not to talk to anybody from the media, not to let in anyone who was not authorized to attend reahrsals, especially fans. When Michael came in that day, the atmosphere was tense and he did not look happy at all. Before working that day, Phillips and Ortega met with Michael and, interestingly, with his bodyguards. They spoke for about 20 minutes, but once again this person could not hear what was being said. However everyone had the feeling Michael indeed did not want to do 50 shows and believed Michael did talk to those fans.

This is pretty much it. This guy said that it is a shame that Michael died while being extremely stressed out. He said that a lot of pressure was put on Michael, but the truth is that the concerts were not going to be ready not because of him, but because the there was simply not enough time to acocmplish all they had planned. He said he is sure Michael would have been 100% ready by July 13th, because "he did those songs hundreds of times before during his career, he knew exaclty what to do" but everything else around was not ready.
He also says he personally felt Michael sometimes did not show up because he knew things were moving slowly and sort of felt disappointed. He was a perfectionist, and when things were obviosuly not going in the right direction, he would get frustrated and sort of lose interest, instead of becoming upset at someone. Yet they made him believe it was him, that things were moving slowly because of him. But this person told me that Michael had nothing to do with all the technical stuff, like lightings, fireworks etc, therefore it was not his fault, but he was the easy target.

According to him, if the concerts were not goint to be ready, it would have been easier for AEG to blame it on Michael, than blame themsleves and their lack of timing skills.

Once again, do not ask me for his name, I will never tell, not even via PM. He was brutally honest with me and I will honor his request.

A lot of things make sense now, especially the concerts not being ready based on what we saw in the movie. No way in two weeks they were going to be ready. Also, he said, don't forget that a lot of days would have been lost during the move to London and setting up the stage there and get adjusted to the arena.

This is very sad, especially to think that Michael was somehow made feel responsible for this.
This made me cry, i know it, when i saw the movie i saw it, this is the truth, and i never like Randy Phillips and i know Michael wouldnt have liked the This Is It movieAT ALL, which was made to save the money Phillips already loose, i feel very sick about this, and at the premier when i saw what that Payne guy was wearing i thought it was ridiculous, thats why Michael wanted Michael Bush (a true friend) and not the one Payne wanted, that Zaldi, this is disturbing, this is why Paris Jackson blames the concerts to Be the death cause of her father...

Some major reporter should write about this, this is what happened i believe it completely, Michael was a perfectionist, i myself was concerned about the concerts at that time and Michaels continious rides to see his doctors, and yeah the sunglasses he were them on these rehearsals all the time, and the Ear monitors, can it be more evident???

every single point has its true, IM SURE THIS IS WHY Latoya said Michael would have never wanted these rehearsal "movie", never, we all know how Michael was...he was nothing but a perfectionist, in fact i think he will be HURT by them

God i hate Randy Phillips, i hate him(always did since the first time i saw him), and Ortega well he seems so nice but who knows????, and now i understand why Janet did not went to the premiere, its obvious

We all know Michael did not wanted to do live shows again, this was like, no way.

EVERYBODY SHOULD READ THIS, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND IT ALL, i regret having going to see This Is It, inside i always knew Michael would have hated it, if i only have read this article before...he was clearly not giving it all, only a few times gives his all on the This Is It "movie", i know he really enjoyed the rehearsals, cause it was him doing his thing, but its not like a full entire rehearsal show...
