Official Charts Thread For ''Michael''

^Anything is "possible". This album really only suffered from "major lack of promotion" syndrome, Sony/the Estate still have time to make things better and make sure 'MICHAEL' sells steadily through the holiday/new year.

Yeah,I hope they learn and I hope the album's gonna have legs
Debut sales is not the be all of an album's success, the only problem is that people are too impatient these days and are quick to label an album a flop or success based on 1st week sales or in the case of movies based on weekend debut earnings

I agree. I think it's important to look at the overall sales too in the long run. I am waiting to see how it did where I live. Hardly any promotion and I hope it's in the top 5.

"Michael" sold nearly as many as Taylor and Boyle in less than one week :wild: as they did in two, :timer: with low promo AND he's not here to promote it himself.

How is that a bad thing???

Wait, is it that way? I mean Did Swift and Boyle's first week release included with the second week? Or is it only last weeks sales that is counted? I'm confused...

Maybe that was the plan all along...to push the heavy promo just before Christmas for the after Christmas shoppers. Most people are off from work between Christmas and New Years...

According to that Hits Daily chart, the totals include last week (LW) AND this week (WK)

That's good then. How many people can say they had #1 album in 5 decades? Off the Wall was #3 too? Then came Thriller. People are discovering Michael again especially young people and that's good too. I am hoping that another single or two get released to support the album.

Have #1 album in 5 consecutive decades is simply a great achievement even if it is in the r&b chart Us(and also in Netherlands). A few artists can do it.Yes "Off the Wall" was #3 too in the Bilboard 200."Off the Wall" was #1 only in the r&b chart Us and in Australia.
I don't worry for the fact that the young generation discover Michael.
We can see that the promotion is bad for the moment.I wait better seriously and at least 2 another single (up-tempo hopefully) released who can help the album.

No thats not the case. Its only last week that is counted.
I mean Taylors album was released in late October.. for her own sake I hope it havnt only sold 200K in 2 months.. Lol ;)

Taylor's album sold over 1,000 000 copies the first week !! Crazzzy

The only person That could have Promoted this Album is Michael Jackson Himself The always had the best Promotion Campaigns

Oh, my mistake

In that case, we'll have to :timer: wait to see who wins the marathon then :cheeky:

In ANY case, "Michael" IS number ONE on the R&B charts with albums that came out @ the same time.

Is that only in the US??
i doubt there are such album-sales any more..

Yes, thats ONLY in the US.
Here is the source from billboard.

"Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" album spoke loud and clear last week, as it will debut at No. 1 on this week's Billboard 200 chart with a whopping 1,047,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's the largest sales week for an album since 50 Cent's "The Massacre" bowed at No. 1 with 1,141,000 in March of 2005."

Invincible was #1 when it was released in 2001, so why do people keep saying he missed the last chance to have a #1 album in 5 consecutive decades? The record he needed to break was for #1 singles, he didn't have any in the 2000's.

mj had the # 1 album for four decades when the invincible album reach the top of the charts

I know, that's why i was shouting last year when TII came out and the album went to no.1, and MJ-frenzy was everywhere, that sony should have released the single as well and promote it heavily -it could well make a fast no.1 sometime in october on november of last year..
but again, they didn't..

my conclusion on sony is that either they have a bunch of morrons among them, or some anti-mj reflexes from the past continue to lie there somewhere..

all those boycotters must be so happy right now... but are they aware that Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle are also Sony artists and Sony doesn't give a damn about their boycott. The only one who suffered is Michael. 30k people is not that many. The first place was very close. I can't believe it happened :(

I have a feeling that the lack of promotion is more to blame. I think all the fans who know about the album went out and bought it anyway (even those claiming boycott) - it's hard not to - it's Michael! I think the sales is suffering from the larger public knowing nothing about the album being out. I'm sad that it didn't make number 1 - it still has a chance to climb next week but I guess it is unlikely. Damn, i really am feeling very disappointed.

Very good, TII went #1 last year with 73,709 , but there it's very hard top the charts by international artists, due to strong local market .

I guess we shouldn't be too sad. After all, there are so many more important fights we have to fight on behalf of Michael.

I'm sorry but Congrats to all the "MJ FANS" who didn't buy the new album. I really appreciate it. GIVE ME A MACHINE GUN!!!!!!!!!!!

YALL MAKE ME SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry about it. 224,000 for 3rd spot in the USA is actually great.

Remember he's not here to do videos and take the music to the next level.

Sometimes with Billboard it all depends on when you release your album. If you release it at a time when other current popular artist releasing there albums, than off course you got more competition

For example had Sony released 2001 Invincible the same time as NSYNC and Britney Spears, he would have been at #3

The haters will no longer be able to hate because there is only one more album left in the MJ vault. How can you be a fan of a artist and know they only got two albums left in LIFE?

One of those albums you basically throw away with NO SUPPORT

The next album might do worse because all the tracks are on youtube. At least many of these songs were NEW and fans had not heard before.
