'Michael' Jackson Album Sells 3 Million Globally in First Week (?)

Re: NEWS-Michael Jackson album is top global seller! Already Platinum in 14 countries!!!

Top selling global album of 2010 -with only 3,5 million units?
articles wrong. its based on first week shipments. biggest first week figures of 2010

Moonwalker.Fan selling 4 million in 3 weeks is VERY different than 3 million in ONE week..

3 million devided by 4 weeks is an average of 750,000.. just like I said 700,000 mark is much more believable..

if this CD sold 3 million on average for the first 3 weeks that would be 9 million in 3 weeks..

so to compare 4 million to 9 million is VERY different..!! or even a 1 week mark to a 3 week mark

you just basically helped me prove my point

‘Michael’ is Number One Worldwide!

December 22, 2010 at 10:29 am

*Mr. Michael Joe Jackson may gone to the after life, but that doesn’t mean he’s been forgotten by the living. The bottom line is that there are a lot of folks who still want to buy his music.

The numbers are in and “Michael,” his posthumous album, debuted globally at #1 in its first week of sales — with over 3 million albums sold.

According to Sony, the album has already gone Platinum in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Canada, Korea and the Middle East.

On the other hand, the album’s success is somewhat tempered, because in the US, it placed third in sales behind Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle.

Posthumous Jackson album sells 3M units worldwide
(AP) – 4 hours ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, but he's being challenged by the current queens of music.

Taylor Swift's album "Speak Now" is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week, followed by Susan Boyle's "The Gift." Their albums got in the way of Jackson's first posthumous album, "Michael," hitting the top spot. According to Nielsen SoundScan, "Speak Now" sold 259,000 units and "The Gift" 254,000 units. Jackson's album debuted at No. 3 with 228,000 copies sold.

Though he's not No. 1, Jackson's album sold more than 3 million units worldwide. "Michael" debuted at No. 1 in Germany, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands. It also made its way to the Top 5 in the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Belgium and Denmark.

But Susan had a Christmas album and it's the holidays. All I hear on the radio non stop is Christmas music. Taylor is really popular for some reason. It was hard but they fail to mention how close it really was in sales.

I am still feeling the ouch about how it did in Canada. 400 copies from #1.

dear god im hoping for a big big number for this Friday!

Does anyone have an idea or information as to when exactly monster OR whatever the next single is will be released?

whenever they plan on doing it i think it should be asap like as in the next few weeks or sooner. It will spike up sales like nuts and defiantly IMO will surpass Taylor and Boyle. Who would have thunk a teeny bobber and an old lady would beat michael for number 1 lol

I am confused. These articles are saying 3 million sold. Yet people here are saying 3 million were shipped. That's a big mistake if these people are wrong.

no, it's a classic mistake made by so-so journalists

The people writing the articles are wrong? I want the accurate number. I don't want it used against Michael if it is a lot less.

Teddy Riley said (on his blog? or somewhere) that Sony had 3.2 mil in pre-order.

Pre-ordered means someones buying the CD whether it's an individual or a store. IMO shipped or sold is the same. Sony's shipping the pre-o. Granted if the CD is on a store shelf, it hasn't sold yet but it was bought by the store.

Also Boyle and Swift have been out longer and sold a lot but I doubt they're global.

Good news regardless.

Yep, YEP :D Thank you!

I have never pre-ordered anything but if that is considered buying than it's buying.

You have to pay for it when placing the "pre" - order, so, that's definitely buying.
It just doen't get shipped til after the release date.

I have never pre-ordered anything but if that is considered buying than it's buying.

Re: 'Michael' Jackson Album Sells 3 Million Globally in First Week

All I can say is there is no possible way for this album to sell 3 million its first week if 1) the album hasnt rushed to number 1 on the charts (it would if it realy sold that much.. 2) Michael has never sold 3 million his first week... 3) the music industry does not work that way anymore, sales are less so if this album is selling more than MJ's previous albums that means that its basically out doing anything he's ever done by a crazzzy amount.. thats BULL!!

it can't reach 3 million by now and so many people don't even know about the album and charts have struggled in ways

Dangerous selling 326,500 in its first week but Michael selling 3 MILLION? come on

Im sure that figure for dangerous is US only, 3 million WORLDWIDE should not be too hard for MJ

I think that is the number it sold in the US only.

Sorry, i stand corrected, US sales are 228,000 for the album, UK is 113,000, Japan has sold 100,000, Australia has kicked a slow start with 11,395 and the rest of Europe is projected at 70,000

TOTAL ALBUM SALES: 522,395 In the FIRST WEEK! THATS HUGE!

And then we have China... they are expected to rack up 200,000 copies when the album is released tomorrow in its first week. By Christmas the album sales will be around 750,000

^ those numbers are low. The album sold 85,000 copies in Germany alone, along with 30,000 in the Netherlands. Japan sales are 58,000. Total worldwide sales on Friday will be north of 700,000
