Why was Janet Jackson's Superbowl boob slip such a serious issue?

Are parents that worried that their children will be corrupted by seeing a breast? I mean we see billboards and magazine covers with half naked women all the time and that doesn't do anything bad to our minds :S

I think a lot of parents try to scapegoat social problems away from their abusive parenting.
 
It happened so fast..I hardly even noticed it...such a big deal is made out of small things.
 
I've always felt that the big reason that it was a big thing with the media was because she was Michael's baby sister...........


Up to that point, the media had nothing on Janet.....but since they all hated Michael, its natural that they also hate his family.........


I mean 99% of kids have seen images of nude people from various sources (Educational books, magazines, newspapers, TV, film, internet)...............


I've never seen a problem with any of this..............it's a mistake anybody could make..........and lots of people have made similar mistakes..........


Making a big deal of this is just like saying that breastfeeding babies in public is illegal!!!!!!!!

lol... i don't buy that for a sec, it was planned and meant to happen but it backfired big time.. well too bad.
given it was blown way outta proportion but ppl move on, so it don't matter.
 
Because the pubblic was already biased against the Jackson name due to the whole Bashir - Arivizo thing.
 
It pretty much ended her career, or at least the successful part of it. Insane isn't it???
 
For the same reason that Lindsay Lohan continues to make appearances in the news: because the American media loves to hype up the most stupid, irrelevant stuff, while completely ignoring the real problems of the world, which directly impact our lives in ways that are too relevant for any coherent person to ignore.

Yet it was perfectly acceptable for Sneddon and company to pass pics of Michael's naked ass around SB County to humiliate him to leave, media knew this occured, but everyone's up in arms over Janet's boob flash? Go figure...I'll never understand that ish.
 
I said the same thing, too. Like one poster said, I think because she's Michael Jackson' younger sister.

I don't think the whole thing was plan...JT was supposed to pull of some sort of fabric of her breast (not the whole thing). She looked genuinely shocked when the incident occured.

I don't like to use the race card to often..........but sometimes it's unavoidable!!!!!!

Race card? I guess you mean, nationality card? In this case, it's wholly unavoidable, though. The American media basically dominates the world--other countries follow its model, cover the same things it does, et cetera. American news companies and shows are broadcasted all over the world, American artists are the most internationally renown, etc. because the American media sells them like products to an international audience. So, yeah, it's completely unavoidable to not blame them when they are clearly the ones setting the trend that the rest of the world follows.
 
You know I am probably gonna get killed for this, yet, I have to say my two piece on this. Sure it was a while back ago, but honestly I didn't see the big idea either. Its funny how America can be so hmm prude at times, yet on soap Operas, movies and many other things it is as smutty as it can possibly get, and much more graphic. People are worried about children who were watching the super bowl at that moment yet you pick up their cellphone, look at the entertainment they are viewing, and its perhaps worse. I do credit Geraldo for saying its a Jackson Conspiracy, yet thats my opinion, yet it seems the media are hyper sensitive. [judgmental] when it comes to a Jackson it seems... You know, during the Oscars in 1947, behind Davis Niven there was a streaker who ran across the stage, naked, yet they laugh at that and it was quite alright, but when an accident happens, its no laughs, only crucification.

But thats my two pieces :D

Woah!!!!! A woman's boob was actually exposed on TV?! Outragous! Forget that there are murderers and child molesters in the world! We must all get together and destroy any woman who has her boobs acidentally exposed on TV! That was the worst part! It was an accident!

No, but it was unnecessary and kind of stupid. In any case, both sides are at fault. Janet and Justin for (most likely) staging the whole thing as a cheap publicity attempt, and the FCC and media watch groups for making such a big deal out of something so stupid and harmless.

They had to slow it down & show it over & over for people to even see what happened in the first place. It was so quick.
 
sorry but to me that was a genius like outthought pr thing... and sorry Janet but not ever I'll believe for only half a second it was a clothes malfunction or something.

so it worked well about getting attention... and that's ok.

Just me... I was a bit disappointed... although I have nothing against a female breast shown in the appropriate setting (which is to me personally more the 1on1 setting between the girl and her lover and even then to give an idea and not really to show all imediately to me is more sexy... ok off topic lol )... I would have wished some more classy attention for Janet to me she was badly advised... and I think Mr. Nsync profited more from it while it was Janets breast... that seems unfair.
