LOS ANGELES – A judge has postponed the trial of a doctor charged in Michael Jackson's death until early May.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor announced the delay Wednesday after meeting in chambers with prosecutors, defense attorneys, and Dr. Conrad Murray.

The move came after the judge asked defense attorneys at previous hearings why they hadn't turned over more information on potential witnesses to prosecutors.

The trial had been scheduled to begin with jury selection on March 24.

Prospective jurors will be given questionnaires on that day, but opening statements are now set to begin on May 9.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

This is a mess... Now is the time for MJ's family to speak out and show some outrage and anger. Murray killed MJ and is now joking around with stall tactics as if this is a game. Mike's family need to call out this murderer for what he did.

I just wish this trial would get underway..really I do....it really is nerve racking..:(

It's probably better because the defense is playing games. I don't like what they are trying to do and worried he will actually get off. I hope the Jacksons are paying attention to all of this.

They don't care.. They should've been calling out Murray 20 months ago but they haven't. Like I said they should've been on the court house steps calling Murray a murderer and making sure he doesn't practice medicine anywhere, but they have not done that because they don't care.

So it's delayed 4 wks, I'm not sure what the defence are expecting to come up with in 4 wks, when it seems that the past two years produced zippo for them.

A judge Wednesday postponed opening statements in the trial of Michael Jackson’s doctor for a month to give both sides more time to share information with each other.

Hundreds of prospective jurors will report as scheduled to a downtown courthouse March 24 to fill out questionnaires regarding Dr. Conrad Murray’s case, but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor said the final selection of panelists will not begin until May 4.

“Because of the nature and extent of discovery in this case, counsel wanted a little more time,” Pastor said after a 40-minute closed-door meeting with attorneys.

Murray, 57, is accused of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s 2009 death. He has pleaded not guilty.

which counsel needs more time? the prosecution or the defense? the defense is the one not handing over discovery

For me this is a shame. This guy is being given all the time in the world, while an innocent man was given no single chance at all. The kids have been stolen his father. We have been stolen a man we loved to much. The world has been stolen his creativity, passion and talent.

and they keep giving them time?

Please, I am totally ignorant in legal matters. Is this any good? For me it's horrible

Thanks for update. Two YEARS wasn't enough? Seems like in that time, they haven't even taken depositions. Makes no sense. First, they wanted a "speedy trial," and now? A delay? Is this chaos, or what?

They are playing games.. they wanted a speedy trial because he was running out of money supposedly now they need time to get discovery together. They've had 2 years to get this done. I swear some outrage needs to be shown from someone on MJ's side

why not pat the guy on the back while handing him over his Noble price for killing Michael Jackson? this is ludicrous.!

I agree with you....Mchael was robbed of a longer life..his children a father..and us...well we know what we lost, And here is the defense playing games. This is good for the defense...to answer you question.

aggggggg

The defense wanted a speedy trial so why are they stalling now?

The defense planned this. They expect to gain something by this delay, probably more psychological. I think they wanted a delay from the beginning but did not want to state it, so they planned this scheme. They would ask for a speedy trial and not give all the documents. This would force the Proc to suggest a delay. They wanted that move to come from the Proc not them.

This delay is just disgraceful.

Why the F are doing it with that bastard?
Michael was treated like criminal in comparisson to that MOFO!

I agree. This is so stupid IMO. To me, it sounds like the defense forced the prosecution into a situation where they had to ask for more time. I have the opinion that this was planned. And it is total bullcrap.

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A judge Wednesday granted a 1-month postponement of the murder trial against Dr. Conrad Murray after prosecutors stressed that the defense failed to share information about its intended case.

Deputy District Attorney, Deborah Brazil, criticized Dr. Conrad Murray's lawyers during last week's hearing because they have not offered a report or notes about its star forensic witness, Dr. Paul White, with only one month before the trial.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge, Michael Pastor, said the prosecution's frustration is mutual, he jogged the defense attorney's memory and reminded them that they could be fined or barred from calling witnesses if they did not comply with legal obligations to turn over the materials...

Pastor met with attorneys from both sides in a closed meeting for 40 minutes and advised Murray's attorneys to provide the prosecution with more information about White's testimony.

Last week the defense recognized that White, the Dallas anesthesiologist with an expertise in propofol, the drug that killed Jackson, is its most important witness.

J. Michael Flanagan, defense attorney, argued that the expert had not prepared a report and only communicated his findings verbally...

Looks like the prosecution wanted the delay...but I don't quite get it. If the defense is not ready why wouldn't that be good for the prosecution? Or are they, the pros., concerned that the defense will pull some surprise?
So murray gets to eat his cake and have it too. He wanted a speedy trial to show how innocent he is and so he can take care of his patients now his lawyers have shilly shallied around and maneuvered a situation whereby they are forced into a delay. murray still looks like a good guy to his patients and his lawyers are afforded more time to do whatever it is that they are not doing.
Meanwhile Michael's family are left to suffer and to wait another month.
Sweet.

Exactly, I was a bit bothered when they said forms for potential jurors would still be given out on the 24th March, but thank goodness they won't be selected until 4th May.

""Last week the defense recognized that White, the Dallas anesthesiologist with an expertise in propofol, the drug that killed Jackson, is its most important witness.""

^^If White is their most important witness, then the defense should just tell Murray to plead guilty. White is the doctor who said Michael was addicted to a drug that was not even in the autopsy report. Is it possible that the defense could get a doctor who can give evidence to back up the REAL autopsy findings?

Cinzia, I am no expert but I think the Proc asked for the delay because they did not want it to be seen that they won the case by default, that the defense was not prepared, or creating a situation where Murray could claim that he was not defended correctly. The Proc wants to win this case in the correct way. Remember they chose manslaughter because it is easier to prove.

Yeah, pro's are well aware of defence tactic's, below the belt is all they've got. As for Murray looking a good guy to his elderly patient's, someone ought to tell them that Harold Shipmans patients thought he was a good doc too, but they're all dead now.

You make good points, I'm sure you're right. Don't want to give the defense any grounds for an appeal! What swine the defense are. Naw, I shouldn't insult pigs.

Wow, funny you should mention HS. I was thinking about him in relation to murray last week. Def. of a doctor: A person whose success the world praises and whose failures the earth covers... of course HS didn't fail, did he...except to not get caught...And murray...I still don't get it. Even after the trial, I probably will still not comprehend how this could have happened. I mean, I know HOW it happened but not...how. See the difference? I'm rambling aren't I. Is this confusing? Probably. Time to hit the hay, I guess.

yeah I still wonder why White has not given any of his testimony in writing or in a written statement. Mike didn't have demerol in his system so Whites' speculation should be excluded. He is an expert in anesthesiology and propofol but if he gets up there and said what Murray did was right and ok in his book then he will be losing his license. I wonder if he has ever left any of his propofol induced patients alone at home in the bed
