I joined MJJC in July 2009, right after Michael died. I was not even close to as big a fan as I am now.. I'd say I first got into Michael around 2001 or 02 and I did however have Invincible, Thriller, Number Ones and The Essential Michael Jackson (4 albums of any artist was big for me back then) and a couple of Michael DVDs. I literally listened to him almost every day for about 4 months prior to his death. I also always supported him during the case and stood up for him when people teased him. I knew about all the vitiligo and that - it took a simple Google search.. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard for the public to do would you..

Anyway, one of my biggest regrets is not being the fan I am now.. when Michael was alive. :( I've read many threads from the past on here.. but I really don't think they capture a great lot of perspective for me on what the average day on MJJC was like before that horrible day

I wish I was here then :( I really wish I was. I feel sometimes that the saying 'you don't know what you've got till its gone' applies to me and I hate it. It's a big regret of mine not to have found this wonderful place until after Michael's passing.

What I want to know.. is what was MJJC like before 25/6? Was it a happy place? What was the typical day like? What typically happened? What did you talk about? How did the members interact with each other? How would you define your personal experience (for those pre-25/6 members) with MJJC?

MJJC post-25/6 is all I've ever known.

Thanks

It depended what was going on. There would always be a sense of anticipation or excitement if MJ was about to make a public appearance at an awards show or on one of his many trips overseas.

This place was an invaluable resource when the trial was happening as well. I remember logging on everyday, seeing the new pics of MJ walking into court, reading the court transcripts, sharing my disgust with other fans at how the media were twisting things. I think every fans heart broke a little when we saw MJ walking into court in his pyjammas having come straight from the hospital. He just looked weary of the whole damn thing and we felt his pain.

The place absolutely exploded in March 2009 when the TII announcement happened. I seem to recall the board crashing completely because too many people were trying to log on. Everyone was so excited, speculating about the show, reading Kenny Ortega's tweets and counting down to the opening night.

There was also a LOT of discussion about MJ's health, fans saying he looked too skinny, fans angry that MJ was conned into doing more shows than he agreed etc.

It was a much calmer place than today, in terms of anger etc. Although I only joined on the day of the TII conference, the 3 months of a living Michael MJJC were great. The sight of one picture would send the forum into a frenzy lol. One picture i remember was the return of the curls :D

yes! SO much excitement! everyone was like look how handsome he looks and waht he was wearing :D
MJJC was fun.
well of course there were also bad times. but we stood together as a family :)

I often wonder too. I've loved him since 2005, but found no reason to join a community until the grieving process prompted me to do such a thing. I hesitated in joining until January of 2010, after a few months of internally progressing the event on my own. Yet, I can't help but to wonder what it was like back when Michael was here. I've never been an active member of a forum for a musical artist before coming here, and this is still the only forum I regularly post in.

I would think this would have been an invaluable resource back in 2005.

I wish i was here before post 6/25

this place must have been more magical.

MattyJam, you pinned it quite right.
Thats pretty much how It was for me at MJJC also. It was on and poppin in those days.
I loved logging in to see what was new and exciting going on with Michael. I met good people here and I consider them "friends" thanks to this forum. It had it's ups and downs for various reasons but for the most part, MJJF/MJJC was great and my home away from home.
As you can see I've been around the forum for a long time and I have been a fan of Michaels for 3/4 of my life and believe me, thats a loooooong lime! Lol!

Things have forever changed because of that ill fated day in 2009.

Like any family member of mine, his death is one I will never get over.
I hope for the day that it will get easier to bare.

My memory is not that good at all so i kinda forgot. I do remember that um, before the TII tour was announced there was a rumor in the air about future concerts. I do not know if this rumor was about the TII concerts but a member here said he/she had a friend who had seen papers with "Michael Jackson" written on them so that member said he/she thought something was coming up. I have a very bad memory so i know i did not tell the story the right way, but i'm sure someone here remembers that member who had a friend that took care of certain things for Mj and , as a consequence, knew something was in the works.

Oh and i think before June 25th 2009, Arxter was much more active as a member, cool guy who is knowledgeable about music. I think i liked that other member um, i think his username is Grandmaster something or another name, has a great sense of humor.

Pre-6/25 there used to be some great members who would post a little moderately (never frequently) on good discussions about Michael, music and such. I felt like back then there were more knowledgeable members about Michael on MJJC. Members who had interesting "inside" information, or scoops. Nothing crazy, but some cool facts. And the discussion was never boring. I don't wanna call out too specific names, but members like ArXter and wannabestartinsomethin21. I miss those guys. Another memeber, LadyBee I believe, was great too, but I think was banned due to something that happened. Was a shame actually.

Other than that, this place was great to find the latest buzz about where Michael was and what he was up to. Get in on good discussions about the tours, and which shows he thrived on and others where he was a little weak on. Thick conversations about his lipsynching on which shows, more serious discussions about the music and his unreleased collections. And then there was always the constant reminder that the media at that time didn't report anything even remotely respectable about MJ like they occasionally do now. Nobody cared about the tabloid articles like they do now too. If anyone posted a silly tabloid article, it was quickly dismissed, moved and dealt with. No one made a fuss over it.

But circumstances have changed obviously, and so have many members' lives.

OMG! The excitement that I had to come on here was outta this world. I was in Middle school ('05) when I joined and lost my pass word... So i created a new one in '06! I remember my heart beating when NEWS came out about Michael and since it would be like 500 posts in a couple hours, I had to go every post to get to the latest news and the anticipation was Great!

One of my fev. moments is when there would be Award shows and we all bet that he's gonna be at the show and watch the award show with our computers close to us and updating when ppl. performed and even when the show only had like 5 minutes left, We'd still hope Michael would just pop out of no where :D Those were good times. :D

And in 2004 when he went to DC, I was 45min away and found out about it a little too late on MJJC. The most upsetting thing was that he was being honored at my country's Embassy *Ethiopia* and I could've gone there since I had a relative there... I kick myself every time i remember that time. And one of my good friends Destiny (MJ fan) was there with other fans outside the Ebassy and I dont know if they got to see him, maybe he waved at them or something... I wished I was there. :(

What about the time for the WMA2006? The actual taping of the award show was a different day from when it was broadcasted on TV. So the fans that were there on the taping of the show updated on here or on FB and told us what was going on... it was just soo exciting!( I think We, fans, were to EVER See the WMA first when other fans posted it)! :D

There was also the time close to the TII tour when Michael's pics were taken shopping and stuff. There was new siting of Michael almost every other day and we always talked about how good and handsome he looked and MOST of us actually wanted Michael to start wearing his hair curly...like Dangerous and HIStory tour... (By this time Michael's hair was straight)! After a few days, we see Michael wearing a blue (scrub cap) on his head under his fedora and All of us were sooo excited that he Might have actually changed his hair style (But we still didnt know)... After a day or two, we get a blurred picture of Michael taken with a fan and his hair was curly... and OMG :wild: You have no idea how EXCITED we were always using this smiley ( :wild: ) lol! The server actually crushed on me a few times b4 I could get through... when I went to different pages, I crossed my finger that it didnt crash on me again...

These were some of the moments that I will remember the rest of my life... I will treasure it forever. Pre 6/25/09, was, imho, one of the best experiences I've had. We all just got along well... We were and still are here for Michael...there might have been a couple that didnt but I will always remember it as one of the best times... :)

There were also great members on here (Oldies but goodies) :D Some had met Michael lots of times even have met his children and it was really nice to have a chat with them and find out some cool and interesting facts about their experience with Michael! :D

I hope this gave you a little bit of an insight ;)

I have been a member of this site ever since this used to be called the MJJ Forum. But Matty and the others had pretty much said it best about what this site was like when we still had him. It was just so awesome to be on this site then. Now ever since that horrible day I am not on here as much as I used to be. I still come on here every single day but maybe just a few times or so. Because I am still suffering from really bad depression from what happen. And I don't think I am ever going to get over of what happen to him.:boohoo:

I Really miss how excited we were everyday to come on here and see/read what Michael surprised us with! I miss him and the old days soo much

So do I. I so wish we had a time machine so we could go back to those days again.

MJJC was fantastic. if MJ made an appereance we would now instantly. pictures, videos etc. would be posted minutes after.

We would discuss the future, coming releases etc.

With MJ died life as we knew it. :(

Yeah. It was great. :( Especially when you knew you were being read.
Sometimes you could get lost in the sauce and become invisible. That don't feel good.

It was a much calmer place than today, in terms of anger etc.

I think a big part of that is that we all knew Michael could be reading what we wrote (we found out later that he did read the forum at least a few times), so we were on our best behavior. Now, there's not much holding people back.

During the few years before TII was announced, I remember a lot of the discussion revolved around speculation regarding future studio albums.

I wish we had it too :(

i remember how excited everyone was about this is it tour and were all so happy, it was a feeling that was no other. Then june 25th 2009 happened...thats when all the atmosphere of this forum changed but we are slowly getting bck to normal. Of course it will never be the same without michael but with us the fans still holding mj in our hearts, we can still keep his legacy alive

:better: to Ashtanga...

But just the same, there were some very good, robust and sane, discussions here too, especially
when it came to Michael's talent and his genius.
I really appreciated this forum during the trial era. It was a reliable source for accurate information.
It was simply a better time back then. Joy & Pain.

Good post, I missed it my first time thru. Spot on.

I also think that the Mod Team
(and the current ones are cool beans too :D)
held their own. :kickass:

But cha did!
I remember those members.

I've been a member since the early 2000's. It was called MJJforum back then if i remember correctly.
Over the years i became more of an observer, reading and collecting all the latest news and photo/video stuff.

All the way from the rumors of Invincible (it's announcement/tracklisting/crappy internet streams of michael signing in new york/ 30th anniversary concerts) to Martin Bashir and the raiding of neverland and the disgusting pictures of our hero in handcuffs/being secretly taped on an airplane to the announcement of This Is It. At the end I logged on everyday for the latest glimpses of MJ returning to the stage, I remember one of so many tabloid youtube movies about MJ creating chaos on the streets of Beverly Hills.

And i remember clearly waking up at 2 in the morning on june 25th 2009 to find out about MJ, and posting my sincere regards and love to MJ's children, His family and everyone who was around in those confusing hours...

This place was a portal for many fans around the globe to be connected to MJ in a way that was not possible in the '80s and '90s (we had to buy physical MJ magazines, though they did contain the best posters ever! LOL). It evolved as the internet medium did and was a social media instrument to many of its users long before twitter or facebook.

I rarely visit since MJ's passing, since things changed so much for me on a personal base. I do love to check in now and then to see whats going on.

I try to remember the life lessons MJ taught me through music, dance, and general observing of a man who was far greater then anything we will ever get to see in the near future. Like most people who grew up with him I think...

I was only here a couple of months before it happened, but I loved it, seeing pictures of MJ leaking to the site, like someone said with the curls back. Talking about what we thought TII would be like and so on. It was such a wonderful place

held their own. :kickass:

 yea, I guess I did, didn't I! Well, I figured they wouldn't mind if they so happened to show up on here. If anything, it's a compliment really. :)

And oh yea, I love all the Mods here still! One of the few forums where the mods are good and thorough with their jobs.

In general the online MJ community was very different. Barring minor things every now and then, it was much more united overall.

I was more active on other boards, but I think in general my experience is similar to what others have described here. During the trial the boards provided extremely valuable updates, much more extensively and accurately than any other websites. But mainly, I fondly remember the excitement on the boards when MJ would make an appearance somewhere. I remember his visit to London in 2005 for instance (his first visit after the trial), the WMA's in 2006 and of course the This Is It announcement. Just wonderful times to be active on the boards and to share the experience with other fans. Traffic would also increase anytime new pictures of MJ would appear. When he moved back to the US, this occured more frequently.

During times when MJ was not making appearances or being spotted, you would find discussions about his work similar to the discussions that still happen now. But also of course a lot of speculation about and ideas for future projects and his whereabouts.

Thinking about it now really makes me miss those times.

I experienced the same thing as you, only joining after 6/25/09. I lurked for a while until finally getting the courage to register and post a couple of months later and seek help with the mourning process. I always liked Michael I just wasn't a "fan" per say, following his every move or posting on message boards. I guess I just took him for granted. Before 6/25/09 I was much more into other things in the early-mid 2000's (following other musical acts, traveling, starting a new job in 2005 and just life in general). But that horrible day in June stopped me in my tracks and now I will always regret not being more of a fan of Michael's while he was still with us. I really wish I was a part of this forum in the good old days...and even in the not so good old days of the trial. At least we still had him.

like someone said with the curls back.

Yeh i remember how excited we all were bout the curls being bck, it was the coolest time in the forum . I miss that feeling so much
