I cannot believe when I saw this...

Fans have emailed MTV and this is the reply they have been receiving.

"We mean no disrespect to Michael Jackson and his fans. He had a phenomenal career and we'll be listening to his music for years to come, but that won't be at the expense of looking out for the next generation of fantastic musicians! Who else are you listening to these days?"

No-one else! I listen to no-one else except MJ! (I've only started listening to music for the past 2 years or so) This is madness! No-one else deserves that title!!! Imagine if... If... He... gets that title...
 
MTV won't be able to change anything.

Michael will ALWAYS be the King of Pop, no matter what, in 10 years time people aren't going to be wearing T-shirts or buying albums or posters with the slogan 'King of Pop' anywhere near it unless its a Michael Jackson product, it just isn't going to happen.

Thats just an outrageous statement, whilst not explicitly stating it they are implying the new artists in the same league, it's all most childish with the explanation mark, pathetic infact. "Will not be at the expense" what a patronising line, sounds like something a teacher would say to a student.

Even if they do name a new 'King' of pop, do you really think it will stick?

Elvis is still known as the King of Rock N' Roll after all these years and others have been given the exact same title and it hasn't stuck.

MJ will always be the true King of Pop. No one else.

EDIT: I just looked at the list of who you can vote for. I literally facepalmed, especially that Eminem is in there, does he even do pop muisc?

If it wasn't for MJ, MTV wouldn't be where it is.

Yes he does now, he's mainstream, same as all the other rap artists from the 90s. Sellouts.
 
MJ is the King. you cant replace him, he has earned that title. MTV you suck. we should organize many letters and send it to them. MJ is king. all others are just imitations

Elvis has been gone for so many years......but his title will never been given to anybody else!!!!!!............and I'm not even an Elvis fan!!!!!

this has made me sooooooooo angry eveyone knows EVERYONE, including usher, timberlake everyone knows that the title will never be given to anyone else BUT Michael.
i agree with GThomson Michael made Mtv there just jerks i cant stand them no more no one watched mtv these days anyway especially without Mike.......................
 
I personally don't care about titles and stuff but it amazes me that MTV, the channel that owns its success primarily at Michael, is the same channel that mocked and ridiculed him in 2002 with that stupid award and now it trying to find his "heir".It is so obvious that there is this desire in show and music business to strip Michael from all his achivement and diminish him importance.Verry dissapointing

How many new "kings of pop" have come and gone over the years? I've lost count :cheeky: Look for whomever wins this contest to fade into obscurity, too...
 
I wouldn't make a big deal about it.
Knowing for a fact this isn't gonna stick + it's a popularity contest.

Maybe a few thousand people will see this and might vote on their (bad choices of artists) favorites but the majority will not even hear about this which doesn't damage MJ's title at all.

People know it's MJ's title. They always will.

MTV, better give MJ his "M" back... do they even play music videos anymore?
 
Ridiculas MTV can not take away Michael's title of "King Of POP"
They didnt give Michael that title and its not theirs to remove from him. Elizabeth Taylor proclaimed Michael King
and the world embraced him as thier King. MTV can never take that Title from Michael and I doubt any legit Artist
would try to claim that title Knowing the huge mocking and backlash they would recieve for doing so.

The King Of Pop Title is retired... It belongs to Michael only FOREVER
 
this is ludicrous! an artist can't simply be made King, he has to earn the title and live up to it. what a joke, VH1 here in the US doesn't even play videos anymore, a la MTV. :p

MTV sucks! They didn't give him that title, so they can't just appoint a new "King of Pop". MTV doesn't play music anymore, for crying out loud! Michael Jackson is the forever King of Pop. All other artists can't even compare to his shadow!

Excuse me? Do they seriously think people will start recognizing someone else as the King of Pop? No matter who you are, when you hear that title you think of Michael Jackson. End of story.
Also, I'd like to hear why MTV isn't crowning anyone else? How about the new Godfather of Soul? The King of Rock 'n' Roll?:angry:

Guys did you tell them that there is no new King of Rock and Roll, no new King of Soul, so why should there be a new King of Pop. Further, there must be some fools at MTV, because simply because we are listing to a variety of artists, it does not mean that we have to change who the King is. He earned his title for specific reasons and NO ONE has passed him yet.

Is it possible for the Michael Jackson estate to trademark the name? No other musician has ever been called the King Of Pop except for Michael Jackson. The name is seen on Michael Jackson products and merchandise. If they trademark the name, nobody else will be able to do the same.
 
MTV suck anyway. i was angry when this came out. just as i get angry when they try to replace Elvis as the KORR! but when i think of it MJ is much more worth then that title.

^^I think that a man trademarked the name and wanted $$$$$$ from the Estate for it, but the Estate did not buy. I read this around 09. I do not know if there are any updates. Anyone knows more about this?
