Dr. Conrad Murray
If He's Convicted ...
He Could End Up On House Arrest

If Dr. Conrad Murray is convicted of felony involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to the maximum -- 4 years in state prison -- he will not spend a single day in prison ... and he could end up on house arrest.

A new law went into effect in California on October 1, which says, because of overcrowding, people convicted of non-violent felonies cannot be sent to State prison. Instead, non-violent felons serve their time in county jail.

Law enforcement tells TMZ ... involuntary manslaughter is a non-violent felony, which means if Murray is convicted he'd go to L.A. County Jail.

As for how much time Murray would serve ... L.A. County Sheriff's officials tell TMZ ... Murray would be jailed for half the actual sentence. So if he gets the max -- 4 years -- he would only serve 2.

But there's a twist ... Murray could actually serve way less than 2 years. Because of severe overcrowding, inmates are eligible for house arrest, based on 2 factors -- their prior criminal history, and risk to the community. Murray has a clean record and, as one law enforcement official put it, he poses no risk ... it's not like he's going to go out with a bottle of Propofol and kill people.

So if the jail is filled to the gills, the Sheriff could put him on house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet. But one official from the Sheriff's Department told us ... Murray wouldn't be placed on house arrest right out of the box. He would almost certainly do some time before the jailhouse doors would open.

This is something that never occurred to me, I knew that even if he was sentenced to 4 yrs that he might not serve the whole stretch, but no jail time seems so unfair to his victim.

"Nice". So Michael gets humiliated for nothing. (Naked pics of him dead on the display etc.)

At least Murray will have time to write his book about MJ and after he spent his time in house arrest he can tour the media and cash in on the whole thing. There will be no justice served for Michael, the media can be happy. That's what they wanted after all. I predict Murray will make a lot of money of this case by writing a book, giving interviews, making up lies about Michael after his house arrest is over. So at the end he will benefit from it all. And Michael is dead. :(

All that matters to is the jury foreperson says "guilty" and its documented in the history books that mj was the victim.

murray wont be able to write a book or make money off his crime

As soon as Murray is done with his time he will:

1.) Buy a plane ticket 2.) Go to the Airport 3.) Get on the plane 4.) Land in Trinidad 5.) Never look back and
6.) Never have to work again

assuming Murray will be convicted, and serves his sentences, or is put under house arrest etc. after that he won't be able to practice medicine ever again, nor will he be able to make money out of this by selling interviews, writing books, etc how is he going to make money?

NOOOOOO MURRAY NEEDS TO GO TO JAIL IF HE IS CONVITED!!!! that would be so unfair & injust imo. It just seems like the courts dont care bout mj at all

Murray deserves to do some 'time' - anything else is just an insult to Michael and to all of those who love him. He must never be allowed to practise medicine ever again.

My son told me about the over crowding inside LA prisons, He also said that Murray would prob serve 2 years. The house arrest thing ... Ihave heard of but didn't think that Murray ..committing IM would fit under that law. I think he CAN go back to trinidade after all is said and done and practice medicine there if he wishes, His license will be pulled here in the states,,,another country is different. I think. Someone else with knowledge could answer better, IF HE GETS ONLY TWO YEARS HOUSE ARREST THAT IS NOT JUSTICE. Michaels life was worth MUCH MORE THAN THAT, I am so angry right now.

There are laws across 40 states that's generally known as Son of Sam laws. In CA it is Civ. Code 3517. It says that a criminal cannot profit from their crime. So if Murray is found guilty, he cannot use his crime for profit - but other people can.

I'm fully expecting nicole alverez to be spilling her story (in between maintaining her instrument). She set it up nicely with her over-the-top performance in court and her dropping the info that she met mj a few times.

I don't think this should exactly be a SURPRISE to anyone? It was almost inevitable when the charges were not Murder 2. Doubtful he'll ever go to prison, although maybe a few months/weeks in a county jail, and then house-arrest, or even probation?

Now we've seen from testimony how egregious Murray's "treatment" of Michael really was? I basically gave up on GENUINE justice for him, when I saw those charges. Karma will have to take care of that, now. Sure, he'll do a little time (maybe), then go back to Trinidad to practice medicine (and God help his patients). Right, though, he won't be writing any books. Nothing stopping his "girlfriends" from doing so, though.

So Murray only looses his liscense in the US? He can basically move whereever he wants and start praticing medicine again? Is that right? He could move to Europe or Trinidad which is more likely in his case and open up a new practice?

No one to blame for this ridiculous charge but LAPD . From Fleak , to Smith , to the self impeaching coroner to Brazil and Walgren what chances did we have in seeking justice? For someone who is not a fan of MJ and setting in his/her home watching this case , in what light was Michael Jackson presented to people based on what was stated in court so far? very troubled to say the least!! that's not justice in my opinion.

Still at least Murray will go down as the man who killed Michael Jackson .

The person to blame for the low charges is the D.A., Cooley. HE was the one who determined the charges. He was running for election at that time, and maybe wanted a "sure thing?" (He lost the election, though. Oops?)

Michael "troubled?" I'd say ABANDONED, is more like it? Ortega tried to intervene in the situation (whatever it may have been), and Murray shut him right down.

No no no no nooo! Murray deserves to be in prison. No. he deserves much worse. I can't believe 2 cushy years at home is all he gets for killing somebody :(

As elusive said, the most important thing is for the jury to return a guilty verdict and there is a felony conviction. So, it's on the book that Michael was the victim and Conrad Murray's negligence caused Michael's death. No amount of jail time and nothing can be done to bring Michael back.

He'd be able to practice medicine with a felony conviction for IM within 10 years in other countries. Don't know foreign law, but I'm thinking not.

And I'm still supposed to believe in a JUST GOD ?!!! I don't think I can take this anymore.

With what money? I thought he did have a criminal history, am I wrong? TMZ gets on my nerves. They know what it takes to get fans all riled up even before the trail ends.

what is trinidad?

I think the whole not murder 2 let to this. We knew from the start of this trial it can only be 4 years, MAX so thats no way 4 years in real life.
I think justice is not done if he can practice elsewhere. Also staying at home?! wtf...
I hate the US right now!

Also what will the doc in the world learn from this? Alot of docs out there who money shop and give the patient what they want! There need to be another trial or LAW for this! So it can never happen!

The witnesses did so good, but for what, a home sentence? Why then go through al this? pics and his whole life nothing private anymore, for what?!

I think there are two aspects to this...whether he legally can practise elsewhere, and whether he 'practically' can.

I think he might find it difficult to attract fee paying 'private' patients, and I am not sure that doctors in a publically funded organisation would want to work with him....would you want him as a colleague who would perhaps look after your patients while you are away? Would you want him to train medical students? Can he ever have any 'reputation' as a practitioner, after the damning indictments of his standards of practise we've heard over the last 2 days? Would anyone give him a job reference? I hope he finds it impossible to practise elsewhere, even if he legally could.

:sigh: Well, as my mom says, Murray is doomed either way and I'm inclined to believe her. He will always have that black mark on him for killing Michael. Plus there are fans everywhere. If this is true and he only gets house arrest, yes it will still be really upsetting. I think we're just going to have to make peace with whatever happens. Nothing can bring Michael back. :(

Who knows, maybe the years in prison or house arrest will be the easiest for him.

Stop hating a a country jeez
Trinidad and Tobago is where Murray is from. It's a a small island in the Carribean

The tragedy is, even with the minimal sentence Murray will likely get (if at all?), that he seems to show NO remorse at all. He kept on saying he was "innocent." He lied when he said he "comforted the children." (never happened). His demeanor in court is of someone who is "misunderstood and put-upon." Or, he just scowls. As far as I know, he's never even said to the Jackson family, "sorry for your loss." We can hope he'd be tormented by guilt for the rest of his life? But, he probably has no feeling of guilt at all, and no feelings of remorse. Is he a sociopath? A narcissist? Both? I put him in the category of serial killer Ted Bundy, in his lack of remorse or human feeling at the IMMENSE grief he has caused, for so many.
