Murray sentencing hearing 29th November-/ UPDATE Judge Pastor Sentences MAXimum Penalty

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

Sorry, didn't answer question - had left my computer. Others have answered it. But in the uk, the serving of half the sentence is just automatic - only if you're bad in jail, do they change that. i suspect it's similar in the us - you just need some type of incentive for inmates to behave themselves once they're inside. UK, like california, has run out of money - we're making cuts, so that means keeping the prison population down.

I just want to correct something in your statement.

In the US, the half sentence does not happen automatically. It happens most of the time, but it isn't guarantee.

What usually happens, depending on the crime, is that the defended goes to appeal and the judge decides if they can get out early for good behavior. In this process the victim's family and the DA can blocked this and argued to keep the person in prison.

So glad that I got home earlier today, if I had attended my classes, by the time I had gotten home everything would've been over. Glad I made the right decision, though it wasn't the best decision for my studies it was the best to make under these circumstances. I hope someone is able to upload the sentencing soon.

It was interesting that flannagan in his press cnf said that murray had erased the recording of mj, and walgren again repeated in his pc that it had been kept. I'm thinking walgren's version is more accurate!

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

Btw, in case anyone missed it, Walgren will be on In Session tomorrow at 10am central time. That's two hours ahead eastern standard time for those going by Cal time zone.
thanks ramona look forward to hearing this

I missed the whole thing, so I'll have to catch it on youtube later. 2 years is obviously not enough. 4 years is not enough either. But I think the judge and prosecutors did as much as they could, which was maximum sentence. It is a shame for killing the most beloved entertainer around the world. I hope he will make no profit off his crime when he comes out, and he's no longer allowed to practice medicine nor be able to get another license. Most of all, I hope I never come face to face with him in the future. :puke:

Interesting that Walgren and Brazil think they may be able to appeal the sentence...it would be good if they really have come up with a little get-out clause that means that this sentence won't be subject to re-alignment. It would be good to see Murray spend some time in the State prison.

oh btw did any of u notice how Murray was caught off guard when Judge Pastor described him as being ''dangerous'' there was a moment when Murray stared at the judge in what it seemed like disbelief.

I wonder what the chances are that they can get this done. He should at least spend half of his time in state prison.

I don't get this overcrowding situation. Some of these laws need to change.

And I consider everything that Murray did to Michael (each and every egregious act) violent because it resulted in someone's death. I guess in the eyes of the law he isn't violent. But in my eyes he is.

To me, Murray's expression never really changed throughout the proceedings. Even when the judged called him reckless and a failure of character he pretty much rolled his eyes at him. Even when he was being taken away he more or less shrugged. From what I've seen, Murray didn't really seemed to care. Cheffon showed more emotions today than him.

murray looked like he wanted to punch pastor when he was summing up. talk about if looks could kill. and did u see panish smiling etc when they were talking about the 100mil. u could see him over walgrens shoulder

UPDATED: JUSTICE: Murray Sentence: 4 Years
UPDATE: The LA County sheriff's office has said that Conrad Murray will only serve about two years of his four year sentence behind bars.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told The LA Times that officials were still trying to determine the exact details of Murray's incarceration but, under state law nonviolent felons in California serve only 50% of their sentences.

Whitmore said that while the the Sheriff's Department is considering electronic monitoring at home for some inmates, Murray's involuntary manslaughter conviction will likely mean that he spends the entire two years in jail. That is the maximum sentence the law will allow, Whitmore said.

Under a new state prison policy in California, defendants convicted of certain nonviolent crimes - such as involuntary manslaughter - will spend their terms in County Jail instead of the overcrowded state prison system.

Though he didn't get the time that he deserved, I'm happy as hell that Murray was sentenced to the MAXIMUM! I think if it was left up to Judge Pastor, he would have given Murray LIFE!!

Halleluyah!!

Yes, i noticed that. He looked really taken back. Good for judge pastor. Glad he saw through murray, unlike all those ignorant folk who probably never saw 5mins of the court testimony but are all of a sudden experts huffing and puffing on all the message boards.

Judge Pastor deserves enourmous credit. What a true pro, what if all people in the courts would have the same brains and integrity.

His speech really summed up the case so perfectly. We could not have asked for a better judge!

I would love it if he did a LOT of interviews in the media. He's great, he would be a beautiful voice for Michael and his kids

Totally agree. His speech was such a relief for me.

Very true, he was great. I was skeptical before the trial started, though he did make great rulings prior to the trial, there was still fear in my, but you're completely right, this judge was just God sent, firm, yet just and professional, his second name should have been 'objectivity' lol. He looked through Murray and saw him for the scum he is, I guess mama Murray's ''he never drank or smoked in his life'' statement didn't impress him much.

His speech was a great reminder to me, and I think to anyone else here, that we were NOT blinded by our love for Michael, that we still managed to see through the facts in this case. Remember how 2 years ago everyone was telling us, that we were biased, etc. Now after what Judge Pastor said, I'm relieved that we were not, we weren't fanatical fans excusing Michael and laying the blame on Murray, we blamed him because he WAS/IS responsible period. The books of history are going to mention that Michael Jackson was killed at the hands of another, not because of his own actions, regardless of what Cooley makes this case seem, this case was not about random doctor shopping going on in celeb circles, but it was about reckless conduct, and criminal/gross negligence.

The Judge was fair. Murray got what he deserved.

I have a question. It was said that a day he serves in prison counts as 2. So, will be out in a year, as the new California law dictates that "low-risk" convicts charged with a lesser felony only have to serve half their sentence behind bars, and the other half on probation?

“Talk about blaming the victim,” Pastor said. “Not only isn’t there any remorse, there is umbrage and outrage on the part of Dr. Murray against the decedent.”
"The fact remains, Dr. Murray is offended that [his] patient died," Pastor said in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom. And Murray remains a danger to the community, he said.

When I was listening to Pastor's speech I felt like we all have a voicer in the courtroom. I apreciate DDA Walgren and Brazil for their's great intent to put Murray behind the bars but Pastor's speech made my day. It seems to me in one moment that he read all the letters from fans sent to him. It was really so emotional and so respectful towards Michael

I missed the streaming because of work but I'm relieved to know that he got maximum!

I'll try to catch up on youtube...

Anyone able to tell me what happened with his licence? Has he lost it for good?

And what about those 102 million dollars that the prosecutor demanded? Has the judge ruled on that and if not, when will he? Besides, I never quite understood, how a prosecutor can demand damages paid to the family of the victim during a criminal trial? Isn't that what a civil trial is for?

Yes. It's the same in the UK. Those with lesser felonies serve half their time, then the rest on probation.

hearing for that will be on the 3rd jan

Thankyou Judge Pastor - it's nice to see Michael being treated as a human being and not a commodity for once. Justice will never be served, because Michael is dead and that is that. But at least Dr Murray will pay for what he's done.

he will do two years

Nancy Grace??? What kind of friend of Michael's would even talk to that b*ch?????
Not surprise one bit. Don't forget he is roger friedman's good pal and befriends with rabbi schmuley. Thank god! We have the good judge and DA this time. In 05, we have tmez. Michael really had no luck when it came to people around him. But no matter what, truth is always on michael's side.
